  1. Actually was half considering Golf GTi as my wifes next car, but just don't get those tartan seats. Nice cars an all but I was surprised by even 2nd hand price tags. R32 just seems like a petrol gusling monster, and even scarier a price tag. My last car was a Civic Type-R, totally different to drive -v- a Scoob. Have to admit the kick at 6k revs was brilliant, was sad to see that car go, although the wet was hairy with no tc. Wife prefers driving the Scoob (uses it more than her own car just now!!). My sister had the new CTR and it was less hairy to drive but felt it had lost the drivers involvement a bit, still quick but not to the same feeling level. Much more comfortable inside. Stick with it Cal, mod other things until the warranty runs out !
  2. Hat off to you Iain, that's dedication. One things for sure it'll be getting done right....perfection might be a suitable word ! All this dry weather must be a big help to getting the time to get it done.
  3. Depends on things like car use, time of year as to how dirty roads are and products used. Reckon along lines of : Claybar - once every 6 months or so (I try for spring and just before winter) Machine polish only when it needs it, even if once/twice a year (less the better considering what your doing to the paint). Get in to that two bucket method plus get a good quality wash mitt and that cuts down on the swirls/scratches. A good quality car wash liquid also. Wax as often as you like, but once every two months is good. Can get top up to your wax to maintain the look which makes it sparkle every week or so and last longer also. Agree there is a lot of effort but as scoobyiain says the more spent at the start the less is needed to keep it looking good week after week.....although 30hours "so far", wow !!
  4. Was going to say Colzo did a lovely engine bay clean up a while back...and there he appears. Just no no no to pressure washing, push water where it shouldn't go. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but try not have the engine bay facing strong (ocassionally we get that in Scotland!) direct sunlight as you don't want gunk/etc to dry in. Good luck, will look good I'm sure, get the pics up on the finished article.
  5. Good work, looks nice n clean. Take it they got there on time !!
  6. Cheers. I won't laugh, I'll be the same. Either a print off from multimap or satnav to get me there. Bonnybridge I'm fine getting to, just not a place I've been in very much..once I think.
  7. Can someone let me know the contact number for Hypertech. Not on yell.com and their website is timing out. Might finally be taking the plunge - getting advice and figures together for a couple of handling changes.
  8. Aye no bad Mike Aye, okay, looks good. Congrats on winning. Better not enter myself now so soon, can't have PB looking like there's favouritism for Scoobys now could we !! Mine is in desperate need of a detail but I just can't get the time I need to get stuck in to it properly till the end of the month. Was the bodywork swirly or did the 106 take it all out and polish it up at same time ?
  9. I saw it a couple of weeks ago, come to mention it might have still had the ribbon on it
  10. I thought I'd heard in 2010 it doubled again? Is that rubbish...really hope so, £400 too high as is !! Really though, a green tax, don't mind doing my bit for the planet an all but £400 a year !!!
  11. Yes, well blobeye anyway. Pull out the white bracket just slightly (it has a lip that sits in the the screw hole area)...then a case of being careful but brave till it shifts, it may take a bit of effort but it does move. If it's your first time leave plenty of time for removal and detangoing.
  12. Sounds nice. Although "new to Subaru", doesn't sound like it from the nice choice of mods . Get the pics up then, give us a look ! Oh, and welcome.
  13. Aye, no bad at all. Wee scratch on the back bumper there ? Nice car also.
  14. Don't forget the SIDC discount !?
  15. Will try anyway, feel misled to what I should have been entitled too, as it is £400 (answers your question too).
  16. Get the violins at the ready, sob story on its way... Bought my WRX back in October 2006. It came from a Subaru dealer and had not long had its 2nd service. When i bought it there was either no discussion or the salesperson said it was not with the car of there being the 3years /36k free servicing. Now I understand this offer continues on with the car. Happened to be looking through the service book and there is a note of 3 years free servicing. Had I noticed this back in September 2007 when it had its 3 years service (different Subaru dealer) I'd have brought it up, but not thinking I had the free cover I paid for the work - and the 3 year one ain't cheap. Chances on me getting any / all of this money back ? Couldn't get anyone from Subaru on the phone today, will try again tomorrow. Anyone had similar situation ?
  17. Did I read that part of the reason for the original road repairs was to fix the bridge, AGAIN ! Mind you, that's nothing compared to the EK Whirlies at the moment. Big tail backs for weeks - and the reason why - so they can monoblock round the edges of it and put some new plants in. Nice to see they spend the money so well !!!
  18. Absolutely. Been on the 74 a few times in the morning over the last 10 days and the roadworks were getting quite annoying. Heading north was quicker to come off at Bothwell roundabout and come straight back on the slip road to motorway !? Left nice and early this morning to find they'd taken the cones away, guess who was early ! Oh well, that's that stretch done for another 2years anyway !!!
  19. Aye, looked like you were struggling for pace to get past the Ford Ka Finally saw you anyways, although it wasn't close enough for a wave - next time !
  20. Ouch . As said by all, glad you got out okay. Maybe with a bucket, mitt, car wash and some elbow grease it'd come up.....eh, maybe not !
  21. The nice weather is bringing everyone out on vehicle cleaning duties...and excellent example of two very nice machines all sparkled up. Oh I miss having a bike, been banned by the Mrs (for my own sake I've been told!!).
  22. Lovely job. Would've been interesting to see the before pics - or were you too embarrassed as to how dirty is was ??
  23. Nice and early, 7am this morning, gliding down the slip road at Bothwell services joining the M74 south bound...must've been you, saw the spoiler ! I was on other side of motorway so unlikely you saw me.
  24. I have the same year car and with discs being warped last year I gave asperformance a call (Alyn) and he said for next step up from OEM discs and pads was just to stick with OEM discs and get performance pads. Narrowed it down to 2 types of pads (well that he supplied anyway) both being similar in ability, ending up with Pagids. Good braking ability with an instant feel improvement but finding bit messy on the alloys. I'd say that what I did is really only next step up from OEM but do notice a difference.
