Check it regular, it may have damaged itself, the end of the crank or the key and could work loose

Use a hairdryer, take your time and keep the heat moving around the joint, a few minutes and you will be able to peel them apart - then heat again before joining. It's easy and far safer than melting your lights!

It's the norm for systems to be made this way, cost probably dictates this, three bolts are better but take more room, cost and weight!

If the flanges are thicker then they are less likely to bend. How badly is it blowing Neil?
