  1. nice car indeed
  2. the slave cylinder piston i cut down was a spare alan,5 and 6 speed slave cylinders are identical. so fitting a 6 speed clutch in my 6 speed gearbox should give no issues
  3. the carbon is only rated to 400lb/ft,im going to change to a comp-d twin plate which is rated to 550lb/ft almost the same as yours peter, yours is rated to 516lb/ft
  4. oh the famous beatles song
  5. thanks for the input alan, after much deliberation tonight i've decided to cut my losses, take the 5 speed clutch out while it's still got value and buy the right clutch for the job.mark(lateral)reckons i'd be on the limit with this carbon clutch anyway so i'm going to get this sorted once and for all and have a bit of piece of mind.just don't think any of the other solutions were going to be 100% right long term.thanks again jim ps.twin plate carbon 5 speed clutch for sale shortly if anyones interested?
  6. stop being peter, you must know by now we're hardcore
  7. again colin i appreciate the offer,i've got a spare 5 speed fork here which i've compared to the 6 speed fork which looks like it would make matters worse, which makes the whole episode even more confusing.i must admit though if this gets the better of me then it will be a first!i suppose none of us are invincible after all lol
  8. stewart if i cant get anything sorted before saturday i might just take you up on that offer, thanks
  9. throw was only too short with shorter piston, with original piston i just need to relieve the pressure on the bearing. bending the fork will hopefully give me that and enough throw to engage gear.this is no black and white solution as when i spoke to mark at lateral on friday he said there is no way i should have fitted a 5 speed kit in a 6 speed gearbox
  10. yea stewart, just clutching at straws just now so as not to have to remove gearbox/engine again.
  11. not silly at all colin, the piston i shortened was a spare which was the first attempt at solving the problem. i was going to put in the original full length piston and then bend the fork so that i have full throw on the piston again but the bend in the fork will relieve the pressure on the release bearing.
  12. took gearbox out today, changed release bearing.gearbox etc back in and decided to shorten the piston on the slave cylinder to see if that would solve the problem.that certainly relieved the pressure on the fork but now doesnt have enough throw to get the car into gear.only option left apart from taking clutch out again and buying a 6 speed specific clutch is to heat the fork and bend it?anyone know where i can get some mobile heating apparatus in the glasgow area? thanks again to gary d and terzo neil for their help if im taking the clutch out again i'll be taking the engine out rather than gearbox, the 6 speed is a nightmare unless you have a ramp
  13. cheers for the offer colin,i'll see how it goes with what i've got.if in need i'll give you a shout
  14. yea no worries on the running in,had another look today and 1 of the lugs on the release bearing has snapped. i think the issue is with fitting a 5 speed clutch into a 6 spped box,i could be wrong but i reckon the overall thickness is different which in turn is constantly putting stress on the bearing.there is no play at all in the fork when the slave cylinder is fitted,in fact the fork had to be foced back to get the slave in.gearbox out tomorow and take it from there, ive got a 5 speed fork and cylinder so will give them a try or modify something or other.the fun continues lol
  15. part of the fun for us guys driving up from the glasgow area is the drive there and back but if i did have a trailer and tow bar on my bmw i would consider trailerring the car up there, save a fortune on fuel and as im not in the aa/rac etc,no worries there if anything goes bang
  16. cheers callum, whats the plans for the wrc rep? cheers rich looks like stage 1 isnt finished after all,the carbon twin plate isn't handling the torque so will have to come out and third plate added. oh the joys of modding
  17. that was my first day at crail, remember thinking everyone putting their car on the strip must be mad lol oh how the times change
  18. really not sure john, think the 2.5 driveshafts may have changed from the earlier cars? as for price,2.5k or thereabouts
  19. lol there was this one too but they dont hang about for long http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-gene...ht-cut-box.html
  20. so what dictates a race car? im sure all cars on the 1/4 mile thread are road legal? i'll have a go whatever but i'm sure grant is referring to the forum challenge of 2 years ago when jc scoob horsed all and sundry.
  21. agree with alan,give ian godney a call 01656 723060
  22. glad you've enjoyed it callum, having a newage compared to the falcon is an achievement in itself
