  1. oh and I forgot to say in the first post - if the diff is in manual you get all sorts of weird noises off it when you reverse, but in manual it's fine

You will get this when reversing on tarmac when in manual and thumb wheel forward. This is because when you turn and reverse, all the wheels are turning at different speeds, if the diff is further forward or locked then it will start to drag a wheel, diff deosnt like this and thats why you get some funny knocks.

  2. Right 1st of all, thanks for all the generous offers of a lift from folk, it just shows how good a community we have here on sidc.

Euan - I didn't know they varied from uk to jap (learn something new everyday).

Wayne - I heard you on the bike, I was actually out the back garden helping my dad put up a new shed, Westtra was kindly helping out too as he only lives along the road.

Jonboy - I hope you get your car sorted tomorrow mate, would be a shame for you to miss out. I thought that was me missing out today :o

Ross - £200 in your head = a pint in my head :)

Everyone else - See you all on saturday (fingers crossed)

    Cheers

  3. I'm back in action...

Checked hoses again, pushed one boost/vacuum hose fully onto a t-piece (thats all i did really) and it started.

Went for a quick run and all seems ok now. I have readings on the apexi and the voltages are fluctuating, air flows are going up and down on apexi display too.

Loose boost/vacuum hose seemed to be it, I hope thats all it was anyway

    Cheers

  4. Theres more than 6 settings, every little notch on the c-diff thumb wheel alters the torque split, even though there is only 6 lights on the dash.

I understand it as being the torque that is being split between front and rear. If you lock the torque split then all 4 wheels practically turn at the same time, handy for loose gravel and snow to gain traction from the wheels that have the grip. Swinging the diff wheel to the back will allow the torque to be distributed to the rear wheels (allowing the rear wheels to spin while the front do not).

This is always a technical topic, I have read many different theorys on how it works, but this is how I see it in my mind. Hope it makes a bit of sense

  5. Ok, I've got a problem, need help and advice.

    Background:

Earlier this week after a blast, the car suddenly sounded like a tractor. I thought I blew a gasket on the headers/uppipe but it turned out that I had blown a plug out from the GT spec II headers. The hole being there for a lamba or temp sensor I believe.

So I got a plug from AWD and fitted it today.

    Current status:

Went to start the car and it does start but it just dies. I can keep the engine running for a short period of time by giving it some revs but it again just dies.

    I have checked:

    All intercooler pipes are tight.

All vacuum pipes seem to be intact, no signs of anything blown off or cracked hoses.

On ignition, the Apexi power fc controller does show voltages for all the sensors, although the Air Flow voltage does drop down to zero. (when I start the car the voltages do change but then the car dies)

Another thing I have noticed is that the boost inditcion on the apexi power fc is now reading 4 dashes (- - - -). I have never seen this which is weird. I have boost indiction on the AVCR boost controller and the defi gauges.

I need to diagnose whether it is my MAF that has gone so has anyone got one that I can get a shot of in the Moray area. (I have left an answer phone message with euan_r because I think he will have the same MAF as me, I need a shot to see if my MAF has gone)

It is an orange label MAF. The car is a MY98.

I really don't want to miss the trip to skye but if I can't get my car fixed then I'll have to miss out :P

Does anyone else have any ideas as to why my car just dies? Anything else I can check?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Cheers

    A stressed out Rich :)

  6. how many times have you went to crail and the gear is fooked so the times are wrong and the track is like a farm road with the money they take you think they could do something with it

    Couldn't agree more there. :P

  7. Thats lucky eh pal, took mine to subaru today, they were busy till friday so i went to mitsubishi next door and they are looking at the driveshaft now, said it will be well ready by friday!

They better not put a mitsu shaft in there :o:rolleyes:

Hope you get your problems sorted too jon, see you saturday ;)

  8. is that even possible? :o

Aye thats what I thought, but with hugh temperature cycles it has been known for these to work they're way loose and blow out ;)

Cheers for the offer dave, I should have a plug tomorrow, lets hope it fits.

I have 2 bottles of octane booster which will do me 2 tanks, do you think that will be enough? is the last V-Power at fort william or inverness? (not sure what route were going from inverness)

  9. Oh ****e, I've just blown a gasket.

Ok good news is that its not a gasket. Theres a hole in the headers for a sensor. I don't have a sensor in there so it was a plug. I've blown out my plug. Quick phone call to AWD and they are delivering one out to me, hopefully get that tomorrow and bobs yer uncle

    Oh the drama ;)

    Rich

PS ne offence to anyone who has tractors (you know who you are), but mine does sound like big massey just now

  10. Oh ****e, I've just blown a gasket.

I'm not sure if its just a gasket or if it is the headers that have went but my car sounds like a tractor just now :o Its dark so I cant locate where she's blowing from just now but I'm going to check tomorrow morning, this is all I need ;)

  11. Hi folks,

Scoob was in this week at AWD getting a couple of bits fitted, I thought I would share.

Decided to upgrade the restrictive turbo inlet hose, so sourced one from RCM www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk

    Picture071.jpg

This hose is twice as thick as the OE item and it was a bit of a squeeze but it got there in the end. The car normally has some weird and wonderful sounds but this has increased the volume in the sook from the filter, turbo chatter is louder when partially releasing the throttle and the dump valve sounds slightly different too.

Heat transfer and heat soak in the engine bay is always best kept to a minimum. So a number of weeks ago I bought the Header tank insulated spacers from Carl Davey www.carldavey.co.uk

    Picture073.jpg

A nice wee mod to help reduce the heat transfer between the header tank and the inlet manifold.

Next step was to buy the insulated manifold spacers form carl davey. So these got fitted at the same time as the turbo inlet hose.

    Picture072.jpg

Carl's products are always top quality so I think at some point I will be investing in some gucci insulated fuel rails.

Also got the rear wheel arches rolled as I had a scuffing issue whilst giving it some beans on those bumpy B roads plus on the track at knockers I was scuffing on a lot of the corners. Hopefully this has sorted this problem, or I may have to stiffen the suspension a little further on the adjustable BC's.

Thanks go to AWD for the excellent fitting service (as usual) and thanks to carl for manufacturing some great products.

    Cheers

    Rich
