  1. Oh good, maybe that will cost less than a new gear box! I hope your right.
  2. Ah yes, but a perequisite is actually having the money in the first place!
  3. Gimme a ball park figure. I have £300 for new stickers, so at least I can use that!!!! Wife's face is like thunder though, in the dog house again!
  4. Assuming my gear box is gubbed (WRX MY06) much is it for a new one?
  5. Checked the nuts mate, they are tight, no movement at all.
  6. Colin. I had the wheels of on Friday night and Sunday afternoon for the track. I never noticed any probs with the pads, but then again I never looked. I will jack it up tomoz and do as you suggested. After that, I will drain some of the GB oil to see if this any metal bits in it. Thanks folks, great help as usual.
  7. Same noise, no matter what gear. Speeds up with motion, not revs. No change when the brakes are touched, no vibes through the pedals or gear stick. Just a constant cllinking sound then a loud clunk as it locks up, then it frees up with a jolt.
  8. So your saying if it is the crank/ pulley related it WOULD make the sound while idling or revving? As I said, it only makes the sound when the car is in motion. Otherwise it sounds fine. So not a crank/pully then?
  9. Yeah, I think its bye bye Hawkeye time.
  10. How do I check for that mate? I have no idea about cars!
  11. Lucky white heather. It has got worse. Firstly, I jcked it up and there is no sign of any damage around the shafts etc. I don't knwo where the front pully is Geo. I don't think it is engine related though. The car ticks over fine and revs fine. When I roll the car in neutral with the engine OFF it makes the sound then it LOCKs up and stops dead. I decided to put it in the garage so as I was reverseing very slowly the sound was still there but this time in the space of about 50 feet the car locked three tiems and I had to lift high on the clutch to free it. When I see free it, it clunked loudly and kinda shot back. Bad news man, I think it must be gear box or diff.
  12. Something seems to be seriouly wrong with the car. I was driving along about 35 mph suddenly the cracking and raking sound comes from the front of the car, like flailing metal. I pulled over and can't see anything. I got back in the car and attempted to pull off slowly. As I got tothe bite point, the car clunked and jarred forward I then continiued on very slowly for about 2 miles till I got home. While on the way home I was in 2nd gear then I changed up into third and the racket got much worse, sounded like metal breaking. I am going to jack it up and see if a drive shaft is gubbed but one of my mates who knows a bit about cars thinks its the gear boc or clutch. When I roll the car in neutral, I still get the sound, even with the car off. Any ideas? Thanks!
  13. Actually, this was an honest reference to my utter ignorace, sorry
  14. PICS!!! Alan, was it a full repsray or was it soemthing smaller. I have the odd little ding or two that I will have to get sorted out in due course, is this kind of work too small for them? I work within a few minutes of this place so it would be handy for me.
  15. I wouldn't know an R1 if came up to me and bit me on the a55.
  16. LOL! Gotcha!
  17. LOL - That's good You missed a good day on Saturday at the Hill
  18. Just find me in the pit lane
  19. Feel better after that Dunc?
  20. Thanks for that Stephen. Two more questions and I'll be done, maybe. 1) Will this do the 2.5L as well? 2) What's involved in fitting?
  21. Cheers Grant, will check that out in a few minutes. No, not gone of those Stephen, your talking to a guy who can't change wheels without a drama let alone fabricating and fitting oil coolers etc.!!! Yes, the IC came out as well to get access to some sensor, so I'm probably fitted up the same as you. I think I will get a thermostat like yours, get that fitted and see if that brings the temps down a bit.
  22. Well there's a good point but in saying that, I wouldn't stay out any longer than 1 warm up 5-6 flying laps 2 cooling laps anyway. Thing is, I dunno how long it took before I was hitting 120 and I dunno if it woudl actually go any higher than that. Then, you have to ask yourslef, "how accurate are teh gauges"? More accurate than having none I suppose. Ach well, I guess I gotta suck it up, which means no new stickers - cr4p!
  23. Will do!
  24. You have to steer around the potholes because the road tax isn't really a raod tax, that's just another con. Can't remember the exact figures but I heard a report of Radio 5Live stating that only a small percentage of the money gleaned from road tax actaully goes back into the roads. Besides that, why is it called Road Tax anyway? If its a penalty for CO2 emmissions (harmless BTW!) then why not call it "Green Tax". The whole thing is utterly farcical and serves only to show that we as a country are run by halfwits - pure and simple.
