  1. Ok had a go at re-greasing the shocks tonight and no major problems.

Have a new set of shocks, tried to fit them the other night but the bottom mount is 3mm to narrow to fit the top suspension arm. After several attempts at prizing the to face apart I gave up and decided to swap the bottom casing of the shock.

So tonight stripped the shocks down, be careful to WD40 the bottom nut as one jammed and I ended up having to drill it out. Anyway once I got the shock cylinder out found the yellow thick grease and it is like thick butter, used a spatula as suggested (Silicone one from Sainsbury's was easy to cut down to fit inside). Getting all the grease out takes a bit of time and patience. To get the last of it out I used kitchen roll taped to the spatula must have used half a roll but nice and clean after.

Re-greased using the spatula to repack the grease chamber, re-greased the top seal then fitted the new cylinder in. Lined up the bottom seal and fitted and torqued the nut.

Only real problem I had was as I was doing the front the springs are short and the standard spring compressors didn't compress the springs enough luckily I has a set that are about 50 years old that worked (thanks Dad).

Will finish the others off at the weekend and update on how they feel after I fit them. Backs will be easier as they are longer springs.

  2. I will do this to my old shocks tomorrow and photograph my progress along the way to see if it makes a difference.

If it does I will be getting a refund from Camskill for the KYB shocks I bought off them last week.

What grease are you going to use? Was thinking about using CV & Lith-Moly being slightly smoother.

Still wondering if is can be this simple.

  3. KYB's are the standard for Subaru's. My front's went a month out of warranty and dealer wanted £800 for supply and fit. Went for BC's but to low for everyday although ride quality is about the same. Going to go back to Prodrive springs and KYB shock but need the new fronts.

  4. Hadn't tried Camskill £220 delivered for pair of fronts getting them £190 delivered from Graham Walker.

Should say 2006 STI, better than £800 quoted from dealer although did include fitting.

  5. Great day, can't believe how slippy the track was on the warm up. Could have done with better tyres as my set were on their last legs which made for some interesting cornering.

Got a good clear 20 minutes towards the end of the session which let me push the car a bit more.

Looking forward to the next one with new tyres and suspension. Good to meet a few new faces.

  6. I warped my EBC discs and have heard of a few others doing the same, changed to Godspeed disc as you get a 12 month guarantee against warping and that includes track use.

Still bedding them in just now with Ferrodo pads, on track this weekend so will see how they hold up with heavy braking.

  7. , so maybe if she gets something with a bit more grunt I could use it more often, that would save a little I guess.

Think you answered your own question hear. If you change the Corsa to something with a bit more power you will always say it's not quite enough we should have got something with a bit more.

Your a power junkie you say 450 in the future but then it will be a wee bit more. Even if you built your ultimate track beast you could still break it, look at time attack cars, how many break, blow engines or have issues most of them and they run purpose built machine with the best parts possible. It in inevitable that screaming round a track will damage or break a car.

I think enjoy the car for what it is, go out for good long run on some great roads and remember why you love your car. Don't tell me the runs back after the meets aren't fun.

If you are still serious about changing why not consider a runaround and Classic. I know that's a swear word to you but you can get a decent classic with lots of power for very little money nowadays. Your more than welcome to have a shot of the Type R which I must admit is may favourite. :P

  8. Now we know that Horsepower Heroes is going ahead Duncan and the team will need a bit of help on the day.

The things they need help with will be:

Parking, getting the RR cars lined-up, teas & coffees and selling raffle tickets.

Imy had the good suggestion of selling baking, we have done this at previous RR days and has gone down a treat. So any contributions from budding Nigella's, John Christoff's or cheats that go to the shops (I did at the Extreme RR day) are welcome.

I know BobbyC and myself will be there early so we will get a better idea of what is needing done then.

Anyone wishing to help can really turn up whenever suits them as the team will need help throughout the day. Any help will be much appreciated and lets have a great day.

    Thanks

    Robert

  11. As most of you are aware Hypertech are hosting a charity RR day on the 14th June 2009.

Obviously Duncan and the team will all be busy sorting out the garage side of the day but with SIDC, MLR and the Skyline Clubs all turning up the place will be pretty busy.

SIDC being such a charitable community I suggest we could probably round-up a couple of helpers to assist with parking and getting the cars for the RR arranged. The majority of help will be needed before the Dyno runs as most people will arrive before the start. Don't worry your not going to be stuck directing traffic all day.

I will post further details closer to the time but an indication of volunteers numbers would be good.

Thanks in advance for your help. :D

Should point out anything to do with cars taking part PM or talk to PaulC555 as he is sorting this out.
