  1. Well... the rad has proved good but the draining plug ??. Your a mechanic Daz, I'm not, so tell me why do they put a nylon plug in a position where it's common knowledge it will exposed to high temperatures ?? why not brass or metal ??
  2. Thanks for the info Emoe. So it was the header temp that caused the melting an not the water jet from the draining plug. I'm not going to argue with your theory Emoe, your mechanical knowledge is far greater than mine. I will let you know the outcome and wish you a speedy recovery regarding your hands mate. Fudge
  3. Daz your right. It is a Subaru Rad not RCM one. Why would they choose to opt for a nylon plug knowing the temps it's going to be exposed to ?. It would be the same as fitting a hand brake to a canoe. Fukcing stupid. The wiring damage was the loom (f lights / f indicators / fogs / & may be fans and ABS. If the loom needs to stay their it needs to be in a metal tube that is heat wrapped.
  4. Maybe loom can remain in current position but encased in metal tubing and heat wrap ? That should work. I cant believe everything is still working looking at that picture of those wires.
  5. Not sure Eurosti. I was with them 2 weeks ago but nothing was mentioned? I will ask Matt tomorrow.
  6. Good shout Emoe. I am speaking with Matt Clark tomorrow. Cheers mate. Hope you & car ok.
  7. The jet of water was so powerful it has completely jet washed the underside of the car (o/side. It's gleaming where the n/side looks normal. I reckon the hot jet of water cut through the plastic "split pipe" and exposed the wires. Now the jet is directly on the wires and when the plastic melted on several wires that caused a small fire. The jet of water in turn put the fire out. Weird thing is I monitor the engine temp' - Oil temp' and Oil Pressure constantly and no signs of over heating at all. All gauges working ok. I was real lucky.
  8. This picture is taken from under the radiator o/side. The drain plug is just out of shot in the top left corner. Drain plug had developed a leak in the rad. I think these wires are from the Motec to a control unit ?. To be fair they were neatly placed and had further protection of a split pipe, but the jet of water escaping from the broken draining plug and melted the pipe & some of the wiring !
  9. Found the problem. I started the car and let it warm up and within 3 minutes water was dripping off the rad. Put it up on the ramps and it's the drain plug on the bottom left rear corner of the rad. Water was jetting out of it. Anti Lag is ok.no problem. I need to find out why that plug failed. Need to get the car ready for the Mcrae run next Sunday!
  10. It's not something we could put right in the morning mate, Matt and I will be talking tomorrow to sort it out before the Mcrae run next Sunday. Thanks anyway matey, have fun and I will speak to you next week. Did you get my PM with the Time Attack link?, there is a cool picture of you BrianD and myself in the pits. Cheers Clive
  11. I have a small engine problem, anyone any ideas?? Anti Lag does not work and I am losing water. Pulled up tonight and noticed water dripping at a fair rate off the bottom of the rad?? Cant get my head under it and see, Seems weird that anti lag has packed up at the same time??. Spent many hours cleaning engine and I have a feeling that I may of pulled something off or something. Engine has not missed a beat since build? and I cant get hold of Matt or Olly. Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks
  12. I remember the STi in front of me, never saw you anywhere mate ?
