  1. It is a helmholtz resonator box. When air is forced into a cavity, the pressure inside increases. When the external force pushing the air into the cavity is removed, the higher-pressure air inside will flow out. The cavity will be left at a pressure slightly lower than the outside, causing air to be drawn back in. This process repeats with the magnitude of the pressure changes decreasing each time. The air in the port (the neck of the chamber) has mass. Since it is in motion, it possesses some momentum. A longer port would make for a larger mass, and vice-versa. The diameter of the port is related to the mass of air and the volume of the chamber. A port that is too small in area for the chamber volume will "choke" the flow while one that is too large in area for the chamber volume tends to reduce the momentum of the air in the port. Chris
  2. Lots of physics and calculations involved but it works. The box I ended up with is slightly different.
  3. Anybody able to she'd any light on my question? How and when do we get our badges under our name?
  4. Photo of the new bit that willie is developing.
  5. Just back from meercat and the difference is huge. Resonator fitted in centre section and a new wee addition added to just before the backbox to reduce and pretty much eliminate the cabin drone. Cracking work and would definitely recommend. Bumped into g.macs brother whilst there but didn't realise who it was and put my foot in it by asking if he was g.macs dad lol. That's me off his Christmas card list lol. Chris
  6. Guys this is my first attempt at an article for the combined regional meet. It is pretty basic and as already mentioned I am useless putting words together so please copy and edit as you wish. Once we get a final draft I will submit to matty(not Marty as my ipad tried to put) for consideration for true grip. Chris
  7. With the cost of running a car these days spiralling out of control and the amount of free time people have also reducing, the days of the individual regional meets are becoming numbered. Gone are the days when you had upwards of twenty cars at each regional meet and the off the forum social side of the club was at its peak. Members used to travel from region to region to attend as many meets as they could but now this is becoming economically unviable. With this in mind the members of the central,Edinburgh,Glasgow and Lanark regions have pulled together and have formed a new region called the Scottish lowland region and instead of having separate individual regional meetings every month there is going to be one joint meet that will switch locations every month. Thus allowing members from the different regions to socialise together without having to go to three or four different locations every month. The first combined meet was held at the Cairn hotel in Bathgate and had a good turnout. The location was recommended by Gus and I think we all agree the food was good and the value for money was excellent. I must admit it didn't all go smoothly as the Glasgow guys did get a bit lost on the way over thanks to some sat nav discrepancies. No names will be mentioned but ere are some new Lostboy candidates lol. A list has now been compiled of dates and locations for the meets for the year ahead and I think I can speak for all of us and say that we are really looking forward to this new format.
  8. One Lewis hasn't seen with a Facebook preview lol
  9. Are you not meant to do water pump or something at the same time?
  10. Heading to see willie at meercat tomorrow to have a resonator fitted to quieten system a bit. He has just developed a 3" system for an rs that is quieter than standard exhaust.
  11. is there a list of repsonsibilities for the ro's? If someone can adivse what it is we do etc that would be good. We don't want to let the club down. Chris
  12. Posted up a note on sidc fb site about the meet next week
  13. Wee reminder of the first
  14. Guys, With the formation of the new lowlands joint regional meet I thought it would be good for us to compile a wee article for true grip. As I suck at stringing sentences together I am asking for your good help. Thought about putting a few words about how due to dwindling numbers attending each regions meet over the months and a couple of the ro's standing down and not being replaced and some of the committed members travelling to all region meets that it was decided to create the new combined region. Then thought about putting a few pics from the first meet then following up with some pics and words from the meet next week. This is just a wee idea and if you don't think any good just say so. Please do not spam this thread Thanks Chis
  15. Opted for a neutral location handy for everyone coz I am just that thoughtful
  16. Erm is there not a rolling road day coming up arranged by yours trully lol
  17. As times change and the location of members that attend meets changes it has been suggested that the meeting point location for the Glasgow meets should move from the hillington harvester to the showcase cinema at bailieston. If there are no objections then this will get put into action going forward. I say bailieston but some may know it as Coatbridge. It is the one on the m8 Edinburgh road. Awe can always use the hillington harvester if the run is going to be closer to that neck of the woods. Chris
  18. Hey think you will find it was us that found the way to the last joint meet
  19. Does that mean we get new badges under our names. I hope the dont say joint spammers. Hopefully we can keep up the good name of the Glasgow ro's. please don't hesitate to contact use if you have any questions or suggestions etc. Chris
  20. shame about this. was looking forward to attending my first SIDC stand event. Will maybe pop up for a wee look round anyway. Chris
