GaryD Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Im thinking bout changing the springs on our bugeye sti to a set of the prodrive ones. Ive heard they are better than the eibach ones, can anyone confirm this? Im trying to retain as close a ride quality to standard as possible and believe the prodrive springs are the best option for this? Are the prodrive springs only available from the dealers or is there anywhere else cheaper that can supply them? Lastly wheres the best place to go to get the car setup with prodrive geometry settings and how much does it cost? Sorry for all the questions... Cheers folks.
mctwistuk Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 hi there. i have a set of eibachs fitted to my blobeye and they are fine. they lower the car nice and the ride is not too far off standard. as for geometry i got mine done by Duncan at Hypertech in Bonnybridge.
craig mac Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hi I have the Tein springs fitted and IMHO they are the dogs and cheaper than the Prodrive ones You can get the full Prodrive geometry done at various places.
craigwrx Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Prodrive = lower ur car by around 25mm / medium stiffness. Teins = lower ur car by around 35mm / stiffer than the prodrive. Courses for horses really, both have there prow's and con's ....i went with the tiens Hope this helps ..
st3ph3n Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Do your droplinks whilst you're getting suspension work done also. As craigwrx can verify they really sharpen the handling up when combined with a good set of springs. There's a place down in hillington that does geometery that JohnSt recommended. Can't remember the name though. OR the place Greers send all their cars too. I'm sure Peter can let sus knwo what that one is.
pedals Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Think the place in Hillington that Stephen mentioned is called 'Kenneth Brown Motor Engineering'??? Not sure though. Getting my geometry sorted is another thing to do on my list of jobs.
fai17 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Get your springs fitted at Greers and get them to do you camber before going to the alignment place(Duskview Garage).
GaryD Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Cheers for the help guys. Is it uprated droplinks that I should fit, or just replace with standard ones? I will probably just fit the springs myself and then get the camber and alignment done. I take it that I need to go to the dealers for prodrive springs? Cheers folks.
st3ph3n Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Whiteline Alloy droplinks. They're uprated ones. Very solid unlike the jelly ones that come with the car. Well worth it when combined with the springs and a good geometery setup. The Anti-Lift Kit is supposed to be good, as is uprating the ARBs, but start off with the droplinks and the springs.
STi_Bandit Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 When i uprated to whiteline droplinks on my old uk300 they were actually cheaper than subaru replacement droplinks :-). Will be doing the same on the sti now Bandit
Nelsdir Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Prodrive springs on my '03 STi. Believe they are actually Eibachs made to Prodrives specs?? Reduces "bounce" on the m'way and turn in better on the corners, less body roll etc. Noticed a few new rattles in the car (to be expected) and now my flaps scrape round every roundabout and tight-ish corners. Glad I did them - can't compare to Teins. Think Bandit got a shock when he got an insurance quote between the Prodive and Tein ones though. Hope to sort out the droplinks (why is no-one going for steel instead of alloy BTW??) and ARB with Dunc at Hypertech this week. Neil
STi_Bandit Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 lol just a wee bit of a shock, tein aftermarket springs were a £500 addition to the policy, However manufactrers lowering springs were a £0 change to the policy. kinda made my mind up of which springs to choose. Other insurance companies could be different may just be mine Bandit
johns Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I might know someone with a set of Prodrive springs for a MY02 bugeye Sti. Boxed and new. John
GaryD Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Cheers again guys. Wheres the cheapest place to get the droplinks? Anyone got any before and after pics with prodrive springs fitted? Nelsdir, did you find the ride to be similar to the standard sti setup? JohnS, I touch goats! []
des_curran Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 The Teins make the car sit the lowest and are quite a bit harder than the prodrive springs. I had tein springs on mine and was very happy with them, i've got Tein type flex coilovers now with front and rear strut braces, lower brace, Whiteline front and rear 24mm bars on the tightest setting, alloy drop links, anti lift kit, axle mounts, front wishbone bushes, ect and the car goes round corners like its on rails, the downside is it is very hard.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Gaz - try PM'ing the Cusco Kid or see one of the group buys on SN for the drop links. If you can stretch another £100 or so then get the whiteline adjustable rear ARB too. Totally revolutionalises the "understeery" feel of the car............sideways if the new way forward [H]
