westtra Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I'm on a few forums due to the different car's and interest I have and have had and unfortunately the internet gives people a soap box they can jump on and say mines better bigger faster nicer etc than yours. There is no way round this happening. The main thing to do is try not get involved in the debate if your are happy with what you have got. I was very happy with the car I just sold(LCR) and only did a few minor mods as it was too much power through the front wheels without going along the expensive route of new diff etc. Now collecting the scoob very soon and it can handle more power so will get a few mods done till I am happy. I will prob show this off as most people like to show what they have done but fine it pointless getting into an argument/slanging match with someone else over it. This is a forum for car enthusiasts to talk share ideas and information on what they have found out and how to do things, I know for sure that once I have the keys and am ready to spend pennies I will be asking yourselfs for info on what trhe best thing to do is and where best to buy from. The main thing that I'm trying to get to is not to get dragged into the posts that are pointless and take things that you read with a pinch of salt and make up your own mind as to what it right and wrong with whats been said.
wrxmania Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Hearing about the work everyone has done to their cars is great - but most don't really care who has the biggest power - its' only pub talk. Well done to those who spend small, large, enormous, ridiculous amounts - whatever - on their cars to get good power - I hope it makes them happy. I like hearing about the work, not the hot air that follows sometimes. Personally I won't be taking mine on the rollers like Ally, Andy F said the car is making good power safely and I know the history of th car. And its' fookin' quick enough for me. That's not to say I won't be skint spending a fortune on it - but not for number - for me, for reliability and for the car. As for peeing 30ft - maybe that could be the next competition - its' pretty hard to measure how far hot air travels [] Brian []
philip_wilson Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 whats brought all of this on then? Don't know Ac!D but Pheeel is feed up with scoobs full stop. Pheeel[]
RA Dunk Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 whats brought all of this on then?Don't know Ac!D but Pheeel is feed up with scoobs full stop. Pheeel[] bet ya wish ya went for the evo now lol, but i dont suppose it`s much diffrent on the dark side lol []
philip_wilson Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 you never know m8 I might still get an EVO just to get Cath to sign the V5 first lol
ally-b Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Ally, so how much BHP does your car have then? With a bit of Gas-meters cheesecake and some of this stuff , my jalopy is pushing out about hmmmmm - don't know [] lol [] Al
fai17 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 []A bit of suprise with this thread...i mod my car for my ownself and not be the fastest as i know there is always someone faster than yours.JC[] This club is full of info and it will stay this way. Everyone and every garage will all make mistakes at times...even Greersport. So lets just get on with it. I'm just happy my car is healthy and made a good figure today. A bit of competion is great and without it we may as aswell go chasing cats and dogs!!
zeolite Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Craig.... I am not sure what you are referring to TBH. The most vocal person on the forum at the minute is yourself IMHO and I have no problem with that at all. I like hearing what you have done and indeed I enjoy reading your posts but you have to remember that those who stick their heads above the parapet get shot at. It seems, and you referred to this in your post that most of us just read the posts and don't say anything at all. So I am not aware of who has wound you up. Anyway I am not sure whether my opinion is of any interest to anyone especially as the only car I own I don't modify is the Scoob cos Mrs Z won't let me. []
scoobaroo Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 One nice thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people. Oh and by the way :- Never do your very best. It leaves no room for improvement !! [] Marty.
gogsie Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I agree with most of the comments in this thread so basically should stay sitting on the fence. But!! I mod my car to improve it not to beat anyone else hence the reason I have stopped where I am now and I'm happy. Should something break then I would go looking for an improved part. Looking to do some appearance inhancing mods now. Also a bit surprised Craig, because you do like to have a bit of banter about whos's going to whip who and that's in no way a critisism of you it's good for crack and part of the enjoyment of SIDC. I think I know what you might be getting at though. There does seem to be a very small bit of - you can't be putting out that! or you were only faster because! In the end sharing experiences and talking is a big part of the SIDC and helps us all when we encounter problems or need advice so we should keep on trucking!!!!
thefastone Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Oh and by the way :- Never do your very best. It leaves no room for improvement !! [] "Under acheiver and proud" springs to mind.... [] Anyways, just read this tread this morning, and I'm curious to know where its sprung from cant see any posts that look as though they could have triggered it, I realise that there is the kind of banter that a few people have mentioned, Like gogsie just said posts like "you cant be putting that out" but then Id say that being a car forum, thats just par for the course... I dare say, there are forums that are worse... I think that if you didn't have people that will come out and say things like this, then where is the banter going to come from...? although sometimes I agree some people can take things too far... I hope that your not just mistaking harmless banter for somehting more serious mate, as its VERY easy to take somthing that somebody says on a forum the wrong way... Besides If your happy with your car and whatever youve done to it, (and IMHO, its a fantastic car! You and Russell have done well with it... [y][]) then why are you bothering with what others have said? more to the point why are you pushing for people to talk more about it... mentioning the view to reply ratio...? mebbe people have nothing to say... I have to say that for all the "bad" banter ive been surprised by the positve reponse to both my cars, the shed and the new one... people are not all bad... (just dont ask me that again on a bad day... [])
WUZ Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 We all know the post that started it. the ABZ lot know exactly why he has said what he said. I think Craig is annoyed at the fact that when an WEST COAST car runs well, the whole world need to know about it which if fine, this is a sharing forum after all. BUT When an ABZ car gets better or faster than an West coast car (Knockhill for example), not a lot is said from "down south". Wheres there praise sharing now? Are not supposed to be 1 whole community or is there now an unseen SIDC border around the Stirling area? If we are all here to push the boundaries of these cars, then we should ALL (including me) praise ALL High-modded cars..........NO MATTER WHERE THEY COME FROM. But lets be honest about their figures and not make assumtions or sweep true comments under the carpet like some Gable-End-builders and Mars-Bar-sellers round here! (at least you finally admitted it eh?) Russell "yee-haa!" Hulme ps - good job Peter, hope it does all that you want it to!
gus the bus Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 who gives a flying fluff what other people say. If someone is faster than an other then who cares? certainly not me [] here, here! At the end of the day we all own a fantastic breed of car. Different people buy them for different reasons! I like many others waited years to get my Turbo and am very happy and privilaged that I now own one. I will make some mods when I can afford them (I've been there with credit cards before and certainly wont be going there again[N]) On the engine upgrades I've probably gone as far as I will which isnt that far tbh[:$] (whilst its still under warranty[]) I'm not for taking risks. Can't afford them![] Cosmetic and suspension mods for me next[Y] All i'd say is if you can afford (lucky you[Y]) and want to mod your car do it! If your happy with it fack everyone else and just let them play with their pee pee sticks! Gus
Gumball Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 having grown up considerably in the last 6 months i would like to say this- "YES, im one of the naughtiest and have the ability to come out with ad-hoc commencts such as get it up you, them apples and smoke me etc although now adays i rather like to watch teh forum and see how peoples cars are coming on be it yours, peters, higgys or stibandit adding mudflaps. Its all relative. My nonsense is due to the fact that as we know it i achieved something for a newage (proven) that set a new challenge for the 00's on the end of another number. SO WHAT. i wanted to do it cos i wanted to do it. Yes when i did i became a rolyal pain in the chorus and it annoyed a large number of people. it annoyed them cos i approached it/mouthed off/rejoiced in a certain way and that was wrong. It all annoyed people cos they hadnt done it themselves. Theres many many many a comment about Gumball/pedeastole in the same sentence by people that probably dont have many friends or feel inadequete in SIDC. I cant help them and no longer wish to antagonise them for fun. Its all a bit petty and as i said, i enjoy seeing what people do with their cars cos it makes them happy and also gives us all ideas for the future. If anyone wanted my grown up advice on 23rd Oct 06 here it is- "Having in some respects changed my arrogant/boisterious/round ye ways, i can see now that if you want to mod your car to a certain level then do it. Concern yourself with what your doing, not what other people are doing. Play things down with the mod declaration to reduce jealousy/contempt/confrontation and be happy with what you have and what youve done. If people dont want to get all hissy fit in the bid to break a record thats already been broken and proven then they need to address their issues. Lets all play nice and be happy for each other. What happened to teh days when we posted up, I SMOKED AN EVO, FERRARI, PORSCHE ETC ? instead of being gay and slagging each other? Chris P cheers ps-wuz, i dont know what your issue is but please give me peace.
scoobaroo Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Some sense from G/BALL there [8-)] you been on the weeeed [] There aint no hidden agendas down the west or the east for that matter. Were all 1 big happy family [] 1 for all and all for 1 thats what it should be all about [] Marty.
