Neofox Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Hey guys, Was playing around the other night and came up with a wee idea. People keep going on about quarter mile times at Crail and lap times around Knockhill. Crail has its timing gear but due to the legal reasons at Knockhill we cant get the same setup for Knockhill Lap times on trackdays. So i was toying on the idea why we dont "unofficially" time the laps. We could have authorised people who are allowed to record the times to keep things fair. I've setup a wee website where we can list the times and some other bits and pieces. Also since the times would timed by official people the participating driver could then be given a wee sticker as momento with their run time and wee little braging right [] I've knocked up a wee example. So what do you think? People interested? Let me know. Cheers Ian
col666 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Very cool! I am aiming to get mine on track by next spring[] Done a 64sec lap my in old scoob.
craig mac Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I agree Cool idea, However i feel that it may frowned at by the powers at be ie K/H CraiG
4Hero Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 great idea [Y] just not sure if there is enough space on that sticker for STi Bandit's time (kidding Martin) [] I'll be on at the beginning of next year for my first time, can't wait []
Neofox Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 I know Knockhill wont like it, but its not like we are showcasing wreckless or dangerous driving and then putting it on a major video site. Most people that are hurtling themselves around knockhill are going to be keeping an eye on what time they just went round in.
Neofox Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 A wee bump just to see if anyone is interested.
st3ph3n Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Yes, but it can't be obvious there's timing going on as that will cause knockhill all sorts of problems.
RA Dunk Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 as long as it`s an unofficial time (if you get my drift) i cant see what the problem is
sheep Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 The only realy fair way is to post video footage. In car mounted camera's which are allowed at knockhill as long as they are properly mounted, then everyone can see the times.

scientific steve Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 cheers [] i think i was due for one []
Neofox Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 I had thought about say a few "special" people that were official time keepers. Discretely standing on the pit straight with a stopwatch in their pocket catch my drift. But if someone wanted to try and record a lap time they would know to arrange say via the forum to meet up and take note of that persons efforts. In no way do i want to get us or Knockhill in to trouble over this, i just thought we could try and have a little quirky thing to show our efforts. I know alot of people use the track days just for some fun to open up the car but i know there is a few folk who like to see how their efforts are going and are proud of their results. If theres no real demand for it i can still supply the stickers for cars without the time just as a wee logo if anyone is interested.

Woudn't mind a wee sticker to go with all my other ones! Hopefully it will be sorted out by Nov as that will be my first time on track. I suppose you'd better get an extra big sticker for me too in that case.
kevin_rhind Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Get the Knockhill timing things that fit on the front bumpers then the times will be recorded by Knockhill NO PROBLEMOS i'd think? What do you think? Only a thought.[:S]
ally-b Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Simply a no-no on club trackdays - any form of timing is considered 'racing' and not allowed . But I don't think that a spectator noting and comparing times would get into any bother [*-)] . . . I know that I often use my mobile phones stopwatch to take laptimes when I'm there - purely for my own interest . Al.
