scoobaroo Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Would like to know why you peeps bought a Scoob and not another marque ??????? Was it the power ? Was it the Price ? Or was it something completely different ???? Marty. []
TheCrow Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 More pratical(seats, and luggage space), better fuel eco, safer - but still with a bit of fun if u really push it.
ally-b Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I've had bikes ever since I could ... Fizzies to Harleys . [] Got my bike licence at 17yrs 22days went straight onto a '68 650 Bonnie [H] I bought it in boxes for £300 and rebuilt it all myself - sold it when I was 35 - never regretted anything more in my life , than selling that bike [:@] Vowed I'd never drive a car , ever . . . . . but I got an offer of a cracking job @26yrs ... if I passed my car test within my 3-month trial period ... I did and got a van , another van , more vans , then estate cars ...escorts , astras, Never been a car fan ....'till I discovered A car that went like and sounded like a bike - no crash-helmet required , no waterproofs required AND you couldn't fall off it [] Now I'm an R.O. for a car club lol [] Al
fai17 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ lol Ally ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ One word.........................................burble just can't beat it.[] No other car sounds like it and it handle not too badly.
stripe Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ever since I saw (and heard!!) my first Scoob I knew I wanted one, had to have one! Got my licence at 18, got an insurance quote of £6500......decided the Scoob might need to wait a few years[] Ever since I got her though, have loved every minute, just turning the key and hearing the boxer fire up and that flat four rumble brings a smile to my face....and then when you floor it and the turbo kicks in, awsome!!!! I am totally addicted, can't EVER see me buying anything else......it's deffo gonna be a P1 next! They might be a money pit, but what a bloody way to spend your money!!!
gubderSTI Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Would have to agree with you guys and gals but its just the noise is awsome.Had my scoob 2years and will defo be getting another. Steve
dan_jess Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I remember the 1st time i heard the scooby burble, i couldnt believe a car could sound like that! I always wanted 1 after that.
scientific steve Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 my reason ? all down to what the car can do. it's a matter of progression from good cars to faster cars. dont think much of the inside of the subaru, could have a much better lay out and a bit more thought behind it, but again the cars not built for normal every day running about it's going to take something a bit special to top the scoob though
thewelsho Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I had a brand new Celica in 2004 and thought I was the bees knees - turned out that although it was a great car in many ways, it jsut wasn't a man's car! I thought it was time to grow up and drive a real car in terms of performance seeing that I had the means for the first time in my life to do so. My friend had just bought a Focus ST and thought about that for about all of 2 seconds, then pursued the Scoob based on it's reputation and how car-minded people held it in awe! I didn't really know what I had bought until I started looking on here. I love it! - J -
st3ph3n Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Never wanted a "mild" hatch so stuck with sensible cars until I knew I could afford something good. Was very close to buying a CTR because I didn't think I could get the Subaru, but I managed to and it's a choice I'll never regret. Colin McRae obviously has a large responsibility for why a few of us are here, and he's certainly part of why I was a fan of the brand long before I owned the car. Owning it has been more than I could ever have imagined, and I can't see me getting anything but a Subaru for my next car(s).
Johnny50 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I opted for my first wagon as i needed something a little more practical. It was also more economical than my previous car, and sounded great too!
4Hero Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I had an Astra GSi which was constantly going in for repairs [:@]. The time had come to change it and I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted so looked around. I discovered a very tidy classic turbo for sale in Dunfermline and fell in love straight away. I never at the time dreamed of owning a car like that but with lots of help from my very lovely wife [:$] the deal was clinched. 3 scoobies/7 years later I am still in love with them, It's just a pitty I have no burble now, although that should be rectified soon...
stephen_cheyne Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Flat four burble. Always loved the sound of Scoobies going past my house. Stephen.
Alan-G Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Always fancied one. Saw a brand new for under 15K. Would have been mad not to buy her !
G.T. Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 the noise and the looks. unfortunately i dont have mine anymore [:'(] regrets me too right
sti pretender Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Always been into cars started in Mini's with big engines moved on to Manta's. Then a succession of company cars Sierra's Honda's etc. Last on was quite good Astra Sri got a taste again for something fast. Birth of my daughter put pay to things as wife got a family car and I got her Honda Civic Coupe started modding that but just wasn't going to get the power I dreamed of. Coupe went when number 2 was on the way. Looked at 4 door cars but could see anything I liked hadn't considered an Impreza. Came across a GX Sport that looked the part. After about 3 months got bored started tinkering but again not enough power. Last month took the plunge and bought a pre-reg STI. No regrets enough power to keep me happy for now. But at the back of my mind I am thinking 300bhp would be nice.
G.Mac Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Always wanted one since a cetrain Scottish bloke won some world chapionship or another and I saw him doing doughnuts on the telly. I started off with a wee Renult 5, I hated it so much I got a clio after that but could not afford to get rid of it for 5 yrs! then got a 205 GTI, but that only lasted a few months as it was dead. After the GTI I moved into Jap cars with an RX8 230ps, had that for 6 months (at the same time as our Glasgow RO had his waggon) then got my STi9, and never looked back since. I cant see myself driving anything else than a Subaru now unless my circumstances change dramatically Graeme
Rossco_ Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I've been brought up on VW's and while i was at uni i had a Corrado G60 project on the go, kept the car for 4 years, once i left uni and got a job i knew there was only one car for me, bar a lamborghini murcielago the only car ive wanted to own was a 2 door scoob - reason?? Mr Mcrae the man is an utter legend and i loved the way he piloted the scoob about and owned everyone out there. So here i am, granted they're pretty vile inside, later classics arent too bad but like any early jap car its a pure tackfest inside, that doesnt take away from the noise, the traction and the amount of fun they are. Ive got another VW for running about in now, which means i can take better care of the scoob
philip_wilson Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Mmmm only bought the scoob as a toy after selling my bike plus its a cheap fast family car. Philip_w
gus the bus Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ever since the old Legacy first came into the Rallying scene I wanted a scoob. When the Impreza came along I got one! [Y]moved away and back to scoobs on 5 occasions.[:$] Now I'm here to stay.[] Its the sound, looks, performance against cost to buy, handling......basically everything about them other than the paper thin sh@tty paintwork that chips when you look @ it[] Gus
Alan-G Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 sh@tty Gus Gus, I thought that sh@tty was a link to picture of chipped paintwork. I clicked on it and nearly emailed "sh" from the website "tty" Lol
wrxmania Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Always wanted one [] The time had come to "stop messing about" [] When I sold my last one, I knew I'd buy another quickly []
david_taylor Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ever since 1996, when I had a slightly moddied Escort RS Turbo, and I was driving up Glen Ocle on the way to Crainlarigh. Had been passing eveything and feeling pretty good, and faster than everyone. Then I looked in the rear view and from nowhere, there was a impreza. I thought, lets see what this thing can do. Dropped a couple of gears and floored it. Scoob just sat up my ass till i hit my rev limiter. At that point I indicated to let him past before I killed the car!! Thats when I realised that the RS Turbo was not very quick...and I decided I wanted that car. Plus Mcrae was always a god to me........I was not disapointed!
Alan-G Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 on the way to Crainlarigh. Where's that dtabbit77 Lol ! Possibly Crianlarich []? []
