col666 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Ok whos up for a wee blast about the countryside with a bit of rally spectating in between? Myself and my co-driver Pugpaul are leaving dundee at 8am on saturday morning and heading for Dunkeld for the first stage. Colin, Alistair and Jimmy Mcrae will all be driving Mk2 Escorts, they usually go through first as course cars before the proper rally championship guys come through. 2wd's first then 4wd's They will not be driving like course cars though! Colin always gives it 110% for the spectators[] remember this is his own personal custom built 300bhp Mk2 that is as quick as a WRC on the right stage. Planning to watch most of the quick guys then leave and head upto Errochty, just off the A9 near Calvine. There is a huge field provided for parking and its only a short walk to the stage. After that, its a blast along a road you will never forget[] this ones a bit special as long as its quiet, lots of very tight corners, hairpins, big dips and rises, jumps, one of which is completely huge! I grew up in this area and learnt how to drive quickly on this very stretch! eventually ending up in Aberfeldy where the service area is set up. The last stage is just outside Aberfeldy so may have time for that too. All of this may change on the day as rallies often have hold ups etc but this is the basic plan ! We will be passing perth approx 8.30am so could meet up with others there. Col.
euan_r Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 v tempted dont know if i will get up a silly hour though
paul_massie Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 col wot a day this is gonna be for us, so lookin forward to this and hope to meet them in perth afterwards
big den Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I'm hoping to go up for Craigvinean & maybe Errochty but not 100% sure I will make it yet. As far as I know the McRae family are actually competing this year and not only running as course cars. Understand they are running Colin, Alistair then Jimmy as 1st, 2nd & 3rd 2WD cars on the event. scooby222 Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 im hoping to be there too, depending on how early i get to bed tomorrow [] il keep an eye out for you at craigvenean,il just make for there through the sma glen- start the day by scaring the missus []
fai17 Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Where are yous meeting at Perth. Did yous know that Meercat built the complete exhaust for Colin red MK2 Escort ,,,BANANA manifold and system about 2 month ago.
zeolite Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 OFFSHORE [] Otherwise I would be up in my favourite forest stage of all time, Drummond Hill. http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?cli...;multimap.y=270
big den Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 This sounds like a good plan although the weather isn't looking too hopeful. I haven't been to this rally for a few years but from memory if you arrive sharpish at the Craigvinean spectator parking area you didn't have to pay and if you were adventurous enough you could drive past the parking field closer to where the actual stage is. Does anyone know if this is still possible? If I get away early enough I'm looking at arriving at Craigvinean around 8.30-8.45. Den
col666 Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 I am meeting somebody in the layby between the inveralmond roundabout and broxden (north) at 8.30am. If anybody fancies coming along.
the squiggle Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 50/50 on this Was planning on pulling off my bumper for some repair work but the sight of the McRae family giving it some stick through the forest is tempting Is the back seat available for me to accompany you Colin if i dump my transport at Broxden?
col666 Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 Sorry Grant but the back seats already taken[] Is there no other weegies wanting to come along that you could co-drive with?
