Colin Mcrae Stage rally...

Recommended Posts

Ok whos up for a wee blast about the countryside with a bit of rally spectating in between?

Myself and my co-driver Pugpaul are leaving dundee at 8am on saturday morning and heading for Dunkeld for the first stage. Colin, Alistair and Jimmy Mcrae will all be driving Mk2 Escorts, they usually go through first as course cars before the proper rally championship guys come through.  2wd's first then 4wd's

They will not be driving like course cars though! Colin always gives it 110% for the spectators[:D] remember this is his own personal custom built 300bhp Mk2 that is as quick as a WRC on the right stage.

Planning to watch most of the quick guys then leave and head upto Errochty, just off the A9 near Calvine. There is a huge field provided for parking and its only a short walk to the stage. After that, its a blast along a road you will never forget[:P] this ones a bit special as long as its quiet, lots of very tight corners, hairpins, big dips and rises, jumps, one of which is completely huge! I grew up in this area and learnt how to drive quickly on this very stretch! eventually ending up in Aberfeldy where the service area is set up. The last stage is just outside Aberfeldy so may have time for that too.

All of this may change on the day as rallies often have hold ups etc but this is the basic plan !

We will be passing perth approx 8.30am so could meet up with others there.

I'm hoping to go up for Craigvinean & maybe Errochty but not 100% sure I will make it yet.

As far as I know the McRae family are actually competing this year and not only running as course cars.  Understand they are running Colin, Alistair then Jimmy as 1st, 2nd & 3rd 2WD cars on the event.

This sounds like a good plan although the weather isn't looking too hopeful.

I haven't been to this rally for a few years but from memory if you arrive sharpish at the Craigvinean spectator parking area you didn't have to pay and if you were adventurous enough you could drive past the parking field closer to where the actual stage is.  Does anyone know if this is still possible?

If I get away early enough I'm looking at arriving at Craigvinean around 8.30-8.45.
