WagonBlue Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Has anyone used on of this device on an Impreza? Apparently it introduces a small amount of air into the inlet manifold breather pipe, creating swirl or turbulence depending on the revs giving a more efficient fuel burn. It’s says it can increase economy and these been lots of magazine tests, I sure they’ve been around for years. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Any improvement in economy would be a boost on the scoob! Cost about £50 is worth it? Or is getting a custom remap a better bet? Also some people are saying that it can help get a de-cated car through an MOT!?!?! Link to page http://www.speeding.co.uk/acatalog/Ecotek.html Cheers
steve_nairn_sti Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Well, I'm no mechanic but I would think that's a load of pish. Doesn't sound right at all mate. Let's be honest too - Nobody buys a scooby for it's exceptional economy do they?[:|]
WagonBlue Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Ture if you go get to where your going fast then it does cost petrol! But imporved ecconony off bost would be no bad thing! This is the bit from the web site 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE The Ecotek CB26P has a no quibble satisfaction guarantee so if you are not completely satisfied we will REFUND YOUR MONEY IN FULL. It also carries a two year mechanical warranty and a £5 million product liability insurance.....So try it and see for yourself....! Your vehicle WILL run smoother, faster and produce less harmful emissions and your petrol consumption will improve..... THE SUNDAY TIMES "Countless widgets claiming to save fuel have come and gone through the years, but here's one that really works. Based around Formula One technology Ecotek's simple CB-26P Fuel Saver creates a swirl of air that helps your engine burn fuel more efficiently - resulting in lower emissions, an improvement of up to 15% in fuel economy and a crisper, more responsive drive. Fitting takes a decent DIY'er 10 minutes, or expect a garage to install it for around £20. At £48.99 the device should quickly pay for itself" I'm thinking is worth a punt, look at this page http://www.ecotekplc.com/more_cars_08.htm a EVO with one fitted? The company been around for quite a few years, I was interested to know if an impreza has used one.
twofourdonkey Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 IMHO it seems like a bit of a con to me. If it could produce all the effects it says it can, ALL the motor manufacturers would fit them as standard, and Subaru wouldn't of had to introduce the 2.5 to beat emmissions. I've not looked into it to hard, but it seems to be fitted to a VACUUM hose. Vacuum hoses don't, as far as I know, introduce swirl. They control things like cold start, and provide feeds to the ECU. This seems to act like a leak in the hose, causing less vacuum, and possibly (depending what it's connected to) leaning out the fuel. NOT good on a Scooby. Don't take the above as gospel, I'm just thinking it through. Ready to be shot down[:^)]
nanaki Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 It's one of those ones that makes you wonder... if it is so good why arn't car's coming with them as standard. If anyone knows of one already on a scooby I to would like some more info. Plus its another thing to look good under the bonnet.
WagonBlue Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 I found this on the Ecotek web site http://www.ecotekplc.com/subaruImp.htm After talking to Scottish Auto Specialists who sell and fit these said that all it does is introduce a small amount of air into the manifold causing the fuel and air to mix more effectively, thus improving the efficiency of the fuel/air mixture. I do have some doubts but I am thinking about it. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
WagonBlue Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 OK, after reading some more post from Scooby Net it looks liek a waste of time on a turbo car. It will only operate off boost and there for give really small increase in mpg, so I think it's not worth the hassle or the risk. I'll keep my money and put it towards a remap
flat4phil Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Have had of these fitted to the wife's lowly 1.6 Civic Sport for over 2 years now, and helps with the emissions/ 'lean the burn' - which can allow you to advance your tickover - but little else. Certainly not going to 'melt the engine' (-quote from a former Cavalier owner) and would help bigger cc/ older cars that are struggling with emissions at MOT time. Have never been tempted to attach it though to the Impreza.
