If only lightning McGreen was up & running[:o] He would sort them out[:(]

Will miss your car there but are you going to Crail to show Craig what to do at the line[;)][:P][:D]

Only kidding big man.....

WTF are those transmission losses all about?  Craig, could you do me a favour and tell me if you're transmission losses from yesterday are roughly the same as the Dastek ones.  More than afew peeps have been quoted at 30bhp and it seems very, very low.

Oh yeah, I'd luv to kick some evo a$$ next weekend but I'm working. Next time.

You might not be feel too well on Sunday and you will need to get some fresh air in you[:(]

See yous there

Colin

Dastek 381.9 BHP @ F/W and 347.1 BHP @ Wheels 35 BHP Loss Through Transmition

Japerformance Today 370.7 BHP @ F/W and 294.0 @ Wheels 76.7 BHP Loss Transmition

Strange but true...................So as previously stated all rollers seem to give different readings [:(]

I am going along to Wallace Performance this week to run on there dyno thanks to Russs just to compare yet another set.

I will be sure to post these readings too.

Craig

Brill let us knoe how you got at WP

Funny, the last time an Evo arrived at an SIDC RR day this happened...

[:o]

It'll be interesting to see the difference in readings between rollers with your car Craig. Mine dropped from 302.5bhp at Japerformance to 283.2bhp at Wallace Performance. I've never lost any sleep over it although it's the Japerformance figure which gets quoted lol.

I wish I was it looks like it is going to be a good day, But I wont be there as I am off to Santa Pod for heaps of  & top fuel dragsters[H] this weekend!!![:o]

Hmmm, Carl thats not so good. I was thinking about running mine on wp as I wasn't happy with my post re-map re-run at jap-performance.

At the RR day it got 300 bhp @ 1.2 bar........ Post Andy F map to 1.45 bar it got 303 bhp. To say I was surprised is an understatement. As Andy says, its not about peak bhp, but even still I wasn't expecting that!  Its just shit-loads faster and the rollers post an extra 3 bhp [*-)]

At least on wp, you get a torque figure I suppose. I dont have one at the moment.

When I was at the SIDC RR at Japerformance recently Simon was having the tyres inflated to 42psi. When you were at Dastek were the tyres pressures adjusted in a similar manor. I ask because the rolling resistance of the tyre will be affected by the tyre pressure. also Simon commented at the end of the RR session that you can make the figures to what ever you want by altering the correction factors used by the computer. Surely this could also alter the transmission loses too, if my thinking is right then this would explain why the transmission lose at Dastek was 30bhp and at Japerformance 70 bhp.

Shut up shut up!!!!

I'm tempted enough already. I'll try and barter my way out of it but seriously don't fancy my chances. Anyway, going by the figures those evo's made the SS drag strip demons will be more than a match for the Lancer Ladyboys. I could whip that lot running on 3.[:D]

I'm not for one minute suggesting that any rolling road tuners would manipulate figures, but it risks creditability when the RR results depend on what the operator tells it to do. If an RR operator also maps engines, then the unscrupulous ones may be tempted to make your car's power appear to be less than it is. Then by magic, an RR re-map produces the required figures.......

Folks

I am going up to Wallace this week to get a Power run, This way we can compare three lots of figures and charts from three separate locations.

Wallace use Dastek as well if my memory serves me right ?

So i will post them up when its done.

Craig

Yes WP use Dastek also. I should add my WP run was done two days after the JP run (the Monday after the Saturday). It was also done minus the TMIC water-spray as Wallace use a different fan setup so bonnet is open during the run.

Ross, sounds all-too similar mate! You'll remember with the Fridge V1 when i started aiming for 300bhp, gaining something like 16bhp over a proven 260bhp with FETD05/PFC/Andy-map (amongst plenty of other things) before adding some more bits to get to the 300. I'm surprised yours isn't running more on a front-mount at 1.45bar, did you see if it made peak boost on the rollers?

Well here is my view on it all .......   Rolling roads are CRRAP !!!

Im not intrested in poxy figures all you do set your self up for a disapointment. And a load of bullshit printed in not black and wight but color.

360 Ste, the Dastek dynos measure the transmission losses, so it doesn't matter what pressure you run your tyres at.

You could change gearing, wheels, tyres, tyres sizes etc etc and while the power at wheels would change, power at flywheel would be the same. Try that on a dyno dynamics!

Dyno dynamics dynos like Japerformance have much greater transmission losses because of the roller design and the way they hold the car down. Just look at how deformed the tyres look next time you see a car on one.

They are very useful dynos for measuring power at wheels, but the flywheel power is just a calculation based on not much more the operators whim!

Would kinda explain why all those evos showed less flywheel power yesterday, eh?!

JC, unfortunately unless you want to take your engine out, there is no better way of measuring gains, particularly at different points in the rev range.

Besides, if you use the same dyno for before and after mods, then the gains or lack of(!) are very measurable.

One thing you can say about modern dynos is that they are generally very consistent.

But I guess you knew most of this already.

Posted

Russs that wasnt a dig at you or anyone just my own opion, Its just that all the figures are so diffrent from place to place not very consistent at atoll.

Posted

Thanks, I didn't think you were.

I agree there doesn't seem to be any consistency between these dynos right now.

Guess people should just keep going to the same dyno. No real way of measuring improvements otherwise.

I hope when Craig has run this week that we can at least say that Dastek UK and our dynos are comparable! They should be.(hopefully he'll not move the goalposts with different fuel etc!)
