scoobymark Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Need 4 new tyres soon and looking at previous theards the goodyears and toyos seem to be the 2 best types to go for. I had the stock bridgestone RE70's on and they are not so good in the wet and only got 8000mls out of the front ones. Out of the goodyears and toyos what will be the expected milage and there seems to be 2 different types of goodyear f1's also T1-r and T1-s. What ones suit the my STI and any recommendations of reasonable fitting places in the central region. So far been quoted £103 a corner for goodyear F1's (225x45x17)
st3ph3n Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Getting goodyears this week hopefully. Will let you know how I get on. Out of the Toyos you'd want T1-R as they replaced the T1-S.
G.Mac Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 on www.mytyres.co.uk, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are £81.60 a corner delivered, plus say £10 a corner for fitting Ive got them on my 05 STi and have no complaints, am thinking about trying the Toyo T1R's next time for a comparason as there the same price as the Goodyears One thing I have noticed is that the tramlining and road noise have both been grately reduced with the Goodyears Graeme
st3ph3n Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 That's quite interesting. The eagles are £7 more a corner for 215/45/17 for a WRX than the 225/45/17 for the STI.
Double Zero Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Try jim dixons in cumbernauld village as they are toyo dealers and are very helpful ,i have Goodyear Eagle F1s on my wrx only had the car two months and i think they will need replacing before the winter, quite a soft compound i think but gives really good grip, i think i will go for toyo proxys next time if the price is right.
Big Daz Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Ok, not a Scoob but I have just ordered Khumo Exsta sports for the S4, they get a better rating than the F1s and a lot of the Audi lot use them - recommended to me ( also cheaper too iirc). Daz - just to mix things up a bit
drb5 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 If anyone tells you T1-R's are more expensive than the old T1-S's are lieing. Straight from the horses mouth, they are the exact same price. So haggle away. [] PS:- i have the R's and they are MUCH better than the old S's, but never tried the F1's to compare.

What is the difference??

What is the difference?? The 91 and 94 are the load index weights (higher the number the more weight the tyre can take) the Y and W are the speed ratings ( W is upto 168mph and Y is upto 186mph) the XL is for extra load (thicker sidewalls) any of the 2 ratings should be fine on most Scoob's[]

Hi Stephen, I've just been so busy. I just got the scoob back from the bodyshop today too, it was off the road after an encounter with a vectra, new front wing, bumper and headlight, but the bodyshop were so busy it took 6 weeks to fix, so i've been using the other halfs escort cabriolet and a 1ltr kia picanto courtesy car[:'(]

corsa Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 As DRB5 says, Toyos all the way.Totally transformed the handling of the STI. Go for it,100% A1 Tyres in EK £90.00 per corner Supply and fit.
des_curran Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Yes the Piccanto was an experience Brian[:S] Graeme, If i had known earlier m8 i would have taken a run over.
harvey_smith Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I have had several sets of Goodyear F1 GSD3. 215 40 ZR17. I have also had two sets of Toyo T1R. Both are very good in the wet and cost me similar amounts, £320 for a set, balanced, new valves and fitted. The Goodyears seem to have softer sidewalls but that has not caused any problems to me but I did send two tyres back to Goodyear which they replaced because of cracking around the rim close to the wheel edge. What goes on next will depend on price and availability and could be either F1 or T1R. I would try Michelin if they were available at the right price. The Khumo Ectas (sp???) that were highly recommended and relatively cheap were a big disappointment in the rain. I have also tried various Bridgestone, RE07, SO2 and SO3, Firestone and Uniroyal all in this size. In 205 50 (R and ZR)16 and 205 55ZR 16 I have been very impressed with Vederstein, (55 profile to raise gearing a margin for top speed runs) Goodyear NCT5 and Yokohama Advana.
