steve_nairn_sti Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Morning all. The Missus is coming up to Wick to collect me from the boat next week and she's taking the Scooby up to get me. I've been on the Shell website looking for a station locator but there don't seem to be ANY North of Inverness!![] What do you guys/gals up North do about fuel and can you recommend anywhere we can go to source some high octane juice? Cheers, Steve
SergeantScooby Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Steve There isn't any, i was just up in stornoway you cant get any past inverness, i couldn't even find the shell garage in inv had to use ultimate, then slumbed it with normal unleaded and millers cvl got a wee supply of millers now in boot just in case.
steve_nairn_sti Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 None?? Surely everyone up there isn't running on 95 RON permanently?[][] Thanks anyway Sgt.
SergeantScooby Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 i dont claim to be a petrol station expert but i looked into it closely before heading up and could find anything, there may well be some small garage somewhere which does high octane but i never found it, good luck anyway, worst comes to worst just boost with millers you should be ok, someone from up that way will be able to confirm, there is quite a few from up that way on here
dipsy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Register on Petrol price.com then type in the place you are going it searches from 5miles to 20miles. There a shell garage in Inverness going by this website ie for superunleaded .
steve_nairn_sti Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 There's a Shell garage in Inverness and also a BP garage, both selling high octane. However a full tank of fuel will not get the car from Inverness to Wick and back, hence my problem. Looks like I'll just have to ask my good lady to go shopping for octane booster before she comes to get me.....
dipsy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Had a look for Wick just four garages selling unleaded
sandyRS16i Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 there is no optimax north of inverness, even then they only have 1 station and it was running out on Sunday even at 105.9p per litre[:'(][:'(][:'(]. There might be a BP in Wick, if not there is one in Dornoch, not sure if they do Ultimate tho. best bet is either OB or take a jerry can with you!!!
steve_nairn_sti Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 Thanks folks. Found a non-affiliated station in Thurso that do SUL...... 109p per litre.[:@] Still, if it's between SUL and OB, I reckon I'd rather go with quality (BP, Shell) unleaded and fire in some octane booster. Still stunned that you can't get any decent fuel between Inverness and Wick. Absolutely menthol!
butcherboy Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 you can get s.u.l. at Skiach services at Evanton they have gleanor petrol @98 ron ( i think). The garage is just a couple of hundred yards of the A9.I think they have more garages further north but dont no where
Gee Wr1 Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 There is a garage sells super in Wick, just top up with OB. You should be able to get to wick & back on a tank if you brim it in Inverness. When we were trying to catch up with the RB run not so long ago we went from Inverness to John O'Groats & back to Inverness rather spirited & used a tank & 2 5l jerry cans. If your only going as far as Wick & take it a bit easier than we did you should be fine. Inverness to Wick is a 210mile round trip.

H Wrx Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Kens Garage (Kildary - about 5 miles south of Tain) sells Q8 high octane fuel (Ron 97). They only have one pump though (first one!)
