corsa Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Rab, go and have a chat with John Spicer at S & S services in Heathfield Ind Est. I never had any issues with them and are more than happy to help all fellow SIDC scoob owners out.

ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 went into s+s and they said £241 !! 68+vat for belt and 137+vat for labour ! is this dear ? []
rabskyline Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 greer quoted £80 less than s+s all in ! s+s can go and jump ! duck turpin had the decency to wear a mask when he was robbing people ! they also want nearly £3 for two little crappy rubber 'o' rings for the power steering reservoir ![:@]
craigdmcd Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I'll do it for using a Gates belt. Pm for a quote. I'm up in Glasgow.
rabskyline Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 I'll do it for £*** including using a Gates belt. I'm up in Glasgow. have you experience of these belts etc . if yo u have then you got a deal !
billyboy Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 *+* Ha Ha Ha . No way not with anybody's!!!!!!!!![]
corsa Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I reccommended S&S because i have always been happy with their service whether it be sales/after sales or indeed servicing. All people are open to negociation on pricing structures you just have to have the right approach towards people. if they dont suit you then fine but is there REALLY any need for continued slagging of a SUBARU DEALER Billy. That was not a question requiring to be answered just a statement. davie PS all the best with the cambelt change BTW
craigdmcd Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Rab, yes I do have plenty of experience of these engines (just let me know your year, make & model), and I'll do it for the price I said. Johnny, let me check with the parts suppliers I use, and if the price hasn't changed drastically, then it's an offer that's open to anyone. Craig Oh, and incidentally Rab, if it suits you better, I can do the job at my mum's in Strathaven, at the other end of the fabulous A71 (or use the A70 and come in from Muirkirk!!!).
billyboy Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Dave yes i will continue to slag them and have told them so.A year is out of order waiting for a cure to a very annoying rattle. No answers to mail, e-mail,no phone calls for updates etc .Nothing. I did my own timing belt on my Classic 2.5 hrs on the deck.No bad eh?
rabskyline Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 if they are mince then i'd like to know ! as i dont want to have probs ! this is what we call a heads up on bad service ![]
dougster Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Billy, as you are well aware 'slagging' garages/dealers on here can lead the club into trouble. Please keep any posts factual and to the point.
rabskyline Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 thats a point too ![:$]. but we can save our members from going to crap dealers etc by pm ![]
TSL 333 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I have always used S&S and found them to be excellent. They offer 10% SIDC discount as well. Call me paranoid, but if a cam belt snaps, the engine is knackered. I would rather get the dealer to do it. Peace of mind and all that. Depends on what you are getting done. As an example, S&S provided me with a quote for powder coating my wheels and replacing two tyres. I considered them to be expensive so went elsewhere, however there are advantages such as peace of mind and FSSH to consider as well. Just my opinion.
rabskyline Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 my car is 13 yrs old nearly and i think that greer would be accountable too if it snapped but to quote £80 more is rediculous and £3.00 for two tiny rubber o rings is nothing short of robbery !
paul_honthy Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I got a Cambelt change, oil change ,diff oil change ,Grearbox oil checked, plugs changed, and suspension repair from Greers and it was VERY good value for money. For this sort of job Greers would be my first choice.
rabskyline Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 scotty, as far as warranty is concerned i think i should visit a garage too. craigs offer is superb but if anything goes tits up then i am fecked (not that i am doubting craigies ability at all) and would be left with a dead engine.greer i s£40 more and these guys are covered for these eventualities. i will decide soon !
