derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I was looking at putting tein coilovers on the car but they are a bit pricey, I've heard they do make a difference but I'm thinking just putting springs on as I'm getting OZ rims and I just want the car to sit nicely on the tyres..... Do you think the prodrive springs are worth getting? And maybe some whiteline products........ Also does anyone have the APS induction kit on a newage and would you recommend it? Thanks for the help folks.........
Gumball Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 i have tein springs on my car with powerflex droplinks etc. the car sits very low on the tein springs and handles very well. so low in fact that i managed to rip the bottom of my bumper yesterday on a pavement when parking. APS kit i got but would suggest getting it remapped afterwards
st3ph3n Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Ginge, I'm also running Tein springs (on a MY05 WRX) with Whiteline Droplinks all round, and Prodrive Geometery dialled in. The droplinks and geometerey were done first and transformed from something I thought felt good, but in reality was no where near as planted as it should have been. You could literally drive down your favourite test track at 120 and feel the car was only doing about 80 based on how it used to feel. The Tein springs were added last month and the car now looks fantastic and the handling has improved that bit more too. The ride is a bit harsher, but nothing that bothers me. The car does sit very low and you have to be careful about kerbs and things. I'm worse because I've got a scott lowe front splitter on mine which drops it another inch, so the council phone me when they need an extra snow plough.
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 Yeah am just trying to find space with andy f for another map.. have you had any problems with them except the bumper incident mate Cheers mate
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 lol, that scott lowe splitter sets of the front end tho it's cracking, what kind of mods has people done to their newage motors? and how reliable would you say they are? Cheers
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Got the Teins on mine with the Prodrive Geometry settings and front n rear STi Strut-braces which have changed the handling and appearance no end Would recommend all these items at just under £440 squid fitted I'm proposing adding the droplinks sometime soonish too! A wee pic of how it sits with the Teins on! Gus PS was advised by a Subaru Mechanic that the Tein springs were better!?! As originally I was going for the Prodrive ones!
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 The car sits nice and low on the teins, is that the uk300? what else have you done to it?
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Yip its the UK 300 with the PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack). To date I've not done a lot but since this pic was taken I've added the Sti Front corner splitters and am picking up my new high level rear spoiler this afternoon and just fitted a K&N filter. Other than that I just wash and polish it! I have plans however to add up-pipes, headers, full decat and remap @ some point this year but thats once I sell the motorbike PS amended my previous posting re-Prodrive springs! Gus
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 A cracking mod I got for mine was the 2006 sti rear lights they are cracking and not too expensive from subaru, it really sets off the back end.......
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Price? What model you driving? Oh, by the way, on the Tein springs it drops the front 35mm and the rear 25mm but car sits level! (as you can see from the pic) Gus
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 Ave got the 05 STI, they were £180 which is'nt bad considering they are a lot nicer than lexus lights and they came direct from subaru, They take about half an hour to fit........ Derek..
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Ill maybe get a wee look At them today when i'm at Halleys picking up my spoiler! Gus
oobster Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Ginge..... I've got the prodrive springs on my 03-plate WRX. Got them fitted at S&S in Ayr, think they cost £390 fitted. Brought the whole car down approx 20-25mm (not nearly as low as the tein's) but still looks smart. Gives the car a slight nose-down attitude, which i like.
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 That's a cracking roof spoiler oobster where did you get that from mate?
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Depends on how low you want to go Ginge! Teins deffo give a slightly "harsher/firmer" if thats the right word!? ride but nothing OTT as I have had cars that have rattled my falsers oot and I wouldn't say the Teins do that. Andy oobster put a sideways pic of yours up to let Ginge see how the two compare Edited: Silly me you've hundreds on yer website ya flash bathtub
G.T. Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 i enquired about prodrive springs the other week and s&s and they said they were only about 150 quid for my car dont know how much to fit them though
gus the bus Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 << i enquired about prodrive springs the other week and s&s and they said they were only about 150 quid for my car dont know how much to fit them though >> Thats about the going rate for Prodrive or Tein springs but they will take 3-4 hours of labour from you for fitting. Back seat out etc... so £300-£400 of your finest pounds will be snatched from your mitts. Gus
wrxmania Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 £150 - bargain - that'll be plus VAT - I think they are about £200 plus about the same again for fitting and gemoetry alignment. I paid £326 from A F Nobles Subaru in Penicuik for mine, supplied, fitted and gemoetry done (WITH NO SIDC discount GRRRRR!!! ). Brian
G.T. Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 no that was with the vat and sidc discount im sure scooby seller said they had loads of stuff on special
wrxmania Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 They do but I did not see the spring kit on the list when I looked. It is £195 including VAT for them so with the SIDC discount £150 odd would be about right.
Spaceman Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Gus mate where did you get ur corner splitters from? and who you get to paint them and fit them? And who you get the spoiler from? Prices if thats not too cheeky. Am thinkin bout the rallytec rear high level spoiler on my uk300 wi the carbon top just for something a bit diff but wi similar looks.
Gumball Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Other than being lower than a rattlesnakes belly there is the other problem with the new springs- the are very very firm and you need to take your car out and get used to them before you give it some into the bends. i had mine on a week, gave it shat into the bend and there was no usual sti feeling when i went in. i was offski. so they are very very good springs but dont give you as much feedback as the standards when your not used to them. can catch you out
derek_mair Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 Cheers Chaps, Looks like Teins and whiteline products it is, as soon as Duncan comes back Thanx Derek
oobster Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Ginge - got the high-level spoiler from Revolution in Gateshead - think it was about £120, then another £80 (i think!) to get a local bodyshop to colour-code it and bond it onto the roof.
oobster Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Plus - i also have the corner-bits on my WRX. They came from S&S too, and you can only get them in STI colours (hence I had to get mine painted as you dont get a red STI). I think it worked out at about £90 each, then about another £50 (total) to get them painted - so say roughly £225-£230??). They do appear on eBay occasionally, or you could try a subaru breakers as all newage STI's have them on already. Lastly, before I head home for the night - if your thinking or ordering a high-level spoiler from Revolution, remember that the factory that makes them only does a run of them once they have a few orders in (they are made by Lester in Italy). So you might need to wait 6-8 weeks for it to come in once you've ordered it.
