mikeyjm26 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 As everyone knows Scoobies are really quick but what surprised me was when travelling back from Edinburgh I had a Honda CRX on my tail. As I leaving the roundabout I accelerated, thinking that I would leave him for dead but noooo he stuck to my a$$, I pulled over and he just zoomed past I was shaking my head in disbelief, how the hell was it so quick. Anyway my question is what cars have you come across and been really surprised at how quick they were? Take care everyone Mikey
ozzy Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 As the old saying goes 'Never underestimate your enemy' Turbo charged Citroen Saxo in Bathgate was very quick. Would've loved a shot in it to see just how good it was.
Gumball Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 aye i had one in edinburgh giving it the noise up. smoked
dave_morgan Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 << what cars have you come across and been really surprised at how quick they were? >> Johnny50's scooby wagon when we had a wee cat 'n' mouse on the way back from TOTB last year !! Had the GTR running on 1 bar (425bhp) and he was giving me a good run! Skyline had the edge as we got up the speed scale I think, but that's kinda expected with it's gearing I guess. Good fun
Iaing Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Was well surprised when i can off a roundabout expecting to absolutely smoke a 306 rallye that was behind me. Although he wasnt quicker he was managing to stick with me, just.

paddy247 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 206 gti, he was in my rear view mirror for more than i liked did shake him off eventually, not sure if it was standard or modiffied, but it was pretty quick.
weeb Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 i had a pug 205 up ma a$$ so i decided to boot it off the next roundabout, i heard a dump and it wasnt mines!! it was the pug!! blew it away tho!!! Also a golf 4motion with mods done, couldnt shake it, a stopped and the guy stopped to ask me what i had done to mines! his had lods a sh!t done. yeah lots of darkhorses out there!! once greer fit my pursuit mode, nobody will smoke me!!! lol
st3ph3n Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 535d sport Beemer. The torque on them is ridiculous. Went for a wee 10mph rolling start to whatever was safe against a noble. He had the rears totally lit up and I was near enough in his back seat, but once he got it hooked up it really shifted. Plenty of big power saloons can try and keep up admirably at top end motorway speed too, but then I'm only running a standard WRX.
Carl Davey Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Somebody in a MY00 UK Turbo got a shock from a 12 year old Cavalier this afternoon. Hello i'm still beside you. When i had the Scooby the best one was a turbocharged Corsa. Neck a neck with a fookin' purple Corsa, brilliant!
weeb Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 my friend used to have a 2L16v turbo nova and we skanked a p1 back from knockhill one sunday and had a wee race with a motorbike!! that car was mental!!!!
Edinburgh-Chris Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I have been waiting for a long time for something like this to be posted..... It is really quite amazing the number of cars that actually can keep up with a subaru! I remember recently when my STi and a Ford Focus had a run in......i won but my god, did i have to work for the victory. The fact is, the old Impreza when first released was untouchable but now...........when manufacturers get something from 180-220 out of a small hot hatch ie. 206gti, renault clio and civic, well its getting harder now. but! i am a strong believer that if you are expected to prove your driving skills then you actually can't hide behind your impreza performance! equal cars are where you shine, lets be honest, anyone here who has raced a car, beat it or kept up with it when you expected less, always goes home with a smile. there's more to a car and driver than the usual Bhp figures. and to finish this, i have never supported racing on British roads, i just like to reset my ECU and if you happen to be behind me when doing so then you are welcome to try and keep up. all the best, Chris
ScoobyAndy Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Those that were on the October run underestimated the wee yellow flying machine if iam honest. Even i underestimated it till that night. Those that have experienced it, watch out shes back for revenge very shortly with one or 2 minor changes
wilky Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 (Eyes glaze over as I gaze off into the distant past..........) Many years ago when I had my mini, not my first car but a subsiquent one, I was stationed in Edinburgh. the car was a 1380, longman stage 3 head, 1.5 roller rockers, 286 kent megadyne cam, luminition, 3-1 manifold, RC40 exhaust, webber 45 DCOE, oil cooler, 4 core radiator, through a Jack Knight S/C gearbox, she kicked out @ 115 bhp. You can laugh, but thats alot of grunt from 5 port A series engine. I was at the lights on Princes street and an old Skoda Estella pulled up next to me, all stickered up rally style withn a susipciously lumpy tickover. I smuggley looked over and gunned the mini, the RC40 ripped, The dude in the skoda gunned his engine and it sounded awesome! Lights went green, I dropped the Clutch, was subsiquently smoked by the skoda, who was at the next set of lights before I gripped second gear. Moral of the story..... Never judge a book by its cover! wilky Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 And there was another time I was in my Fiesta Supersport, and got a laruping off a mini Van! When I caught him up and asked what engine he had, he opened the doors and had a rover V8 in the back, it was rear wheel drive!! Feck!

The good old V8 saves the day again
scooby222 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 i seem to have a problem with hondas, both a bright yellow civic covered in jordan bees and an s2000 with mugen badges have left me shaken before but on the plus side i once gave a mildly modded escort cossie such a beating that the guy sold it and bought an impreza, result!
alistair_learmonth Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Its the old adage, dont matter the BHP its the power to weight ratio. Would rather have 200 brake in a Saxo than 400 in a scoob anyday, mental aint the word for it http://www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk/
ScoobyAndy Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Thats why the wee Ignis is getting some serious mods planned I dont need a scoob, would love one though i'll jus wait till i can afford a nice RA
