ally-b Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 So much so I got a second set fitted a month ago I've been on KH twice and Crail twice You've posted your messages twice too - yous must like them [] - only joking guys [] I also have Redstuff all-round . Al.
st3ph3n Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 It was coughing up an error when I posted the first time and didn't think it had actually posted!
P1 NUT Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Mintex gets my vote. If doing trackdays get the m1155. I got m1166 from as performance for £65 as they have over made these and they are great.
corsa Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Just fitted 1166 Mintex pads and with the correct bedding in procedure they are absolutely awesome.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 DS2500's for me...... Only ever had them fade after chasing JAC en-route to Aviemore I have Godspeed grooved discs and Goodrich braided lines too She STOPS like a good un' now and performance @ KH was remarkable in comparison to the standard jobbies. Thanks to Unlce WUZ who fitted them a while back Cal
st3ph3n Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Cal is that the Godspeed bigger discs with the caliper spacing kit or just regular sized ones? The big set is possibly on my list for when my discs need changed.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Just got the standard size and they are more than adequate for hard braking. Unless your giving it more than 12 laps @ KH I would stick with the smaller ones. Only had mild fad on them chasing JAC's 380 bhp ( AP 6 pot equipped !) STi en-route to Aviemore. That was the first REAL caning they had other than KH. I love em'..............dust aint too bad and the noise has all but gone now CGS
micra_wrc Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm dragging this thread back from the past to see if anyone can suggest where I can get front brake pads this week to fit over 4 pots on the RA? looking for either Mintex or Ferodo...... getting worried now as I'm on track for my 1st time on the 26th and need the pads fitted and bedded in before then. most places we've tried are out of stock and have them on back order [:'(]
the blue dragon Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I know you probably have, but have you tried demontweeks imy? i was lookin at their mintex pads the other day and they had them in stock. good hunting [Y] Iain
micra_wrc Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 aye, tried them, the pads are down as in stock but in reality they have none left. Pads are on back order []
scoobaroo Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Imy, have you given Duncan at Hypertech or John at Extreme a bell ? as they usually have pads in stock. Hope you get sorted [Y] Marty.
frank c Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Imy, have you tried Alyn at AS Performance ? I've bought 1 or 2 things for him and can't fault the service and he's a really nice bloke too. [Y]
dipsy Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Imy try Awd do mintex pads and Falkland do mintex and ferrodo pads or if you have a Partco your way try them
micra_wrc Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 thanks for your help guys, i've managed to source some Mintex pads []
scoobyiain Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I've just been on the phone to as performance and bought new front and rear discs and pads [Y] ds2500's better be good cal if not i'm coming to get you
mazheriqbal_mohammed Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Just to add to the comments I have tried the Mintex 1144 and1155 and found both to be cracking pads. I have had the fortune to tryboth pads on city, country road and track driving conditions. I foundthe mintex 1144's to give excellent bite from cold and still retainedthat level of bite down a country road blast (over the course of 3hours straight []). When at Crail during the hard braking on the lastleg on the 1/4 mile there was loads of bite from them however thesecond i was onto the track i found the pads heated up far too much tothe point where after about 3 minutes of spirited driving they wereseverely compromised in the amount of bite they delivered, in fact itwas so bad i decided to pit in only to stop and see the pads smokingaway!! The pads seem to wear at a moderate rate but have not had themlong enough on the car to comment much on this also i have noticedmoderate amounts of brake dust when using these. The1155's were pretty good from cold but needed a few brakes to heat themup to their typical standard, when they do heat up the bite is awesome(more so than the 1144's). I personally find these brakes fine aroundtown and excellent on country roads, at Crail and especially on thetrack. The wear on the pads was pretty moderate over the a couple onmonths driving and a trackday (with me not holding back on mybraking!!) added to this i have only experienced a moderate amount ofbrake dust from the pads! All in all i would say that the1155's were my particular favorite of the two primarily for itsversatility over all sorts of driving conditions and the higher levelsof bite that you get from them compared to the 1144's and the fact thati want to use the car on the occasional trackday. I would add that dueto the pads not biting as hard as they typically do when heated if youhave a tendency to drive close to other cars bumpers on occasion thenthere is the risk you could underestimate the braking of the pads andbump into them or if you have to brake suddenly you may initially nothave that same level of bite, however i have not had any problems usingthem! As for disks the only ones i have tried are the standardones and the grooved black diamond discs. I have had no problem withthe black diamond discs but have noiced that the feel of the brakepedal was not quite as smooth as the standard discs, this does notaffect the braking performance so i think the feel i was getting isfrom the pads rubbing against the discs grooves. I was advised by manypeople against getting the drilled discs as they are proven to crackingif they are put under a lot of stress (as would be seem at a trackday).I would however maybe next time go for the Tarox grooved discs as theyhave more grooves on the disc for better cooling and just to test outbut as they were priced at nearly twice that of the black diamond mybudget could not quite afford it at the time when i got the brakesdone. Hope that is of some help?[]
