A-reggy Chocolate Brown 1.0 mini

Managed to forward-roll it into a ditch 2 months after i got it, walked away without a scratch but the roof was caved in so was written off.

Think i was paying about £900 insurance fully-comp at the time but was paying it in installments - once the settlement cheque arrived i cancelled the DD, and never heard anything back from the insurance co. - was quite surprised!

Also managed to half the speed limit sign in two on the way to the ditch - i got a bill in from West Lothian Council for "replacement of street furniture"

(Eyes glaze over...) It was a 1966 mini cooper s, in the days before minis took off again in the early 90s. It would be worth a fortune if I had kept it, but it was well worn by 1987 anyway. I smashed the front end the second day I had it and my dad leathered me within an inch of my life! He put a glass fibre front end on it and connected the wiring by way of a caravan power socket so I could take the front end off completely. The 1275 block was replaced by a 1380 with omega pistons, and I used the cooper s steel rods and steel crankshaft.

By the time I sold it she had a Jack Knight staight cut gearbox, kent 276 cam, 1.5 highlift roller rockers and a Longman stage 3 head. The carb was a single 45 webber and I cut an airbox into the bulkhead and made it out of a steel drawer from a filing cabinet. Janspeed 3-1 manifold, janspeed exhaust and an aldon dizzy with luminition. about 98bhp @ the wheels so 108 at the flywheel through a comp clutch and the JK box.

Insurance was about £285 for the year which was a fortune in those days. Sold it to a chinese bloke from Helensburgh who smashed it the day he bought it.

Ahh, the days before forced induction and ecu's...........................................face-icon-small-smile.gif

Used to pour methanol into the tank to make it go quicker, it would pop and splutter like a bugger but did no harm apart from scorch the plugs..............................Memories, Ill need to look out my old photo album...............................face-icon-small-smile.gif

In 1999 when i was 22 I bought my first car.

A 1996 BMW 328i sport in Metallic Black (cosmos) from BMW dealer. No Pics.God I loved that car, wasn't too upset when I replaced it with Golf V6 4motion but when I look back I wonder what I was thinking. It was so gorgeous and was in mint condition. Vow that I will get another BMW sometime. Maybe an M3 after the current RB5.

Paid £1300 for insurance first year. Admiral and lived on the Isle of Lewis in the north west of scotland. A very safe postcode for insurance!face-icon-small-smile.gif

Just for info sold the golf to buy a house and bought a clio 172 "exclusive" No 003 of 172 made. Nice car but a bit gay. Almost as fast as the scooby though. Now have the RB5 as I had a bit more cash.

Peugeot 205 - in 'piss' yellow colour.

I was 17 and insurance was £900... loved her, she even had an indoor pool via hole in floor.

On really cold mornings I had to scrape the frost off the inside of the windows... and push her off numerous roundabouts - she didn't like the rain too much, typical woman face-icon-small-wink.gif
