Ben_s_1 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 hi every one, will my 98 uk car run ok with a td05 conversion, without being re mapped right away? Thanks
jamie_wood Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Wouldnt like to say Y or N . There should be a couple of guys on here that could say for sure though. If you dont have any luck, gimme a shout and I can put you onto a pro in that area
the squiggle Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Anything as major as a changing the type of turbo would defo require a remap to get the most from fitting the different type of turbo. Different turbos have different spool up rates. A TD04 will spool faster than the larger TD05 but the TD05 will flow a lot more air. An ECU remap will alter the wastegate duty cycle for the larger turbo and in general make the engine run a lot happier on the larger turbo Grant
Carl Davey Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Not necessarily. I don't know the ins and outs but a certain memeber on SNet ran a TD05 and almost every other bolt on mod with a standard ECU and 380cc injectors. Oh, and he made 387bhp IIRC. Go to SNet and search for Rich Wild. I personally wouldn't advise it unless you know what you're doing. i.e. i fitted a TD05 on my MY98 and drove a grand total of about 8 miles (off boost) before Andy remapped me. Me being a muppet.
dougster Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Anyone ever seen Rich's car? Looks like mine except 4 door (and slower)
the squiggle Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 387 horsepower on 380's..... The car will run and you could use a MBC, like a Dawes to control the boost. To get the most from fitting the larger turbo a remap of the ECU is what i would advise but in answer to your original question. Yes the car will run ok if you fit the TD05 but the car will be happier with a remap. Grant
wilky Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 387 on 380s? Keep taking the tablets and come back and see me in the morning.
Carl Davey Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Sorry, i must've taken too many tablets.... it was 386bhp. OEM ECU and 380cc inejctors, MRT top mount, ported OE headers etc etc....
wilky Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Thats quite a claim, what fuel pressure was he running do you know?
wilky Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Just read the thread Carl, I still find it hard to believe, but he obviously has the figures to back up his claim. There has been a couple of times this has cropped up, Ive never been that lucky, Although my injectors were 380s up until yesterday and they Always produced the goods. I never tried to push them any further because I just assumed I had maxed them and there was no point. Never say never eh? And there was me bursting a gut to get my 550s in. Well, there in now, never mind. Callum W
Carl Davey Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 It was RR'd at Well Lane remember. +30bhp instantly.
wilky Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Indeed, mind you even at that the boys done good! I hit your websight, very good! Wish i could set up something like that It would be great to document the life of my car so far. Callum W
Carl Davey Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Cheers Callum. If you're really interested you can read all about my quest for more power here, only 20 pages... You should put a thread in Projects (on SNet) for the Falcon, i have an uploader i can give you access to if posting pics is a problem?
