the squiggle Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I sent a std PM to all Scottish members a couple of weeks back to try and guage reaction to a centrally located annual meet. 99% of you replied positively to the suggestion which i reckon is good enough to start the ball rolling. I have contacted 3 locations regarding using thier facilities to host this event. 1. Doune Motor Museum Carse of Cambus, Doune, Perthshire, FK16 6HD, Scotland A84 at Doune 2. Blair Drummond Safari Park and Adventure Park Blair Drummond by Stirling A84 3. MotorMania 76 Moss Road Tillicoultry Clackmannanshire FK13 6NS All 3 locations are centrally located in the Stirling area which is equidistant between Aberdeen and Dumfries. Format for the day is yet undecided, ideas for the day gratefully received, as is the final location or date Once the 3 locations get back to me i will post a poll asking what date would suit the majority of interested attendees. Once a date has been sorted a poll on the format of the day will be held and again we will go with the majority As i said any ideas for the format of the day and the date, must include a date when ANDYJDMSTI is in the country. i.e May15th til June 1oth and Aug15 til Sept 10th Your support is appreciated on this one and if we all get behind it i am sure it will be roaring success. Grant
wrxmania Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Good on you Grant, You know I will support this Brian
ian_craig2 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 All scottish members but .............. me
rallye6 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 great idea grant. the only problem I think with motor mania, will be the size of the venue, it is very restrictive and is used by the general public as car parking for sterlings. 1. Doune Motor Museum would'-be a excellent venue if you can get it. brian
keap_scooby2 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 good one grant, just give us a call if you need a hand, up for it. see if any of the northern england mob want to come up. alan
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Great stuff Grant..............Doune would be best IMHO - you'd get the space for Scoobs and perhaps some hill climb action too ( public liability insurance permitting) I loved going their when i was younger.
john_robertson Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Doune, nice venue but point one if it rains the field turns into quagmire trust me from experience also it isn't the motor museum anymore its an arts and crafts type place Dunno much about Blair Drummond Motormania, never been there but the web-site looks good Grant, not trying to be negative matey just going from past experience at Doune. I'll try and rack my brains to see if I can think of anywhere else that might also be suitable. John.
derek_robertson Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Great idea Grant, excellent choice of venues, looking forward to it already Hope dates don't clash with my holidays. See ya, Del
ian_craig2 Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 what about kaimes at muirkirk??? not so central but lots of space and stuff
dougster Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I am awaiting a call re Kames dates and the SIDC will have a Scottish National day as I have explained to you Grant.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Woooohoooo!!!! if you need any help Grant let me know........................am sure i could do some packed lunches
st3ph3n Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Kaimes? Is that the sign for the Rally Track I see when going through Muirkirk? My company has loads of sites down that direction, and an office in Muirkirk, so if I'm out visiting then I usually pass through the village.
gordon_kerr Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Nice one Grant , count me in from Dumfries, may even pick up the vixter if she behaves and if she aint 30,000 feet above us serving tea n buns to the toffs on virgin atlantic
zeolite Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Is this in addition to an Alford day or instead of?
the squiggle Posted February 10, 2005 Author Posted February 10, 2005 AS i said in the previous post. There is a lot of support for an informal meet in a central location and i thought since Andy mentioned it and there is a gfood possibility of it happening. So best to start early in the planning to get as many cars, old and new, there as possible. This is not any kind of replacement for a National SIDC held at Alford or Knockhill, it is merely an informal gathering of cars at one location. Some good suggestions so far on the format of the day ranging from a static meet with preprinted route maps for groups to go a run in the country then return to the main group area for a chat. Taking over a whole Scottish island ala Manx style. A weekend at a central trossachs campsite for beer and laughs. Good suggestions so far, keep them coming Grant
Grovit Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 As long as the dates suit, or at least if there is plenty of notice - I'll be along to jolly things up !
the squiggle Posted February 10, 2005 Author Posted February 10, 2005 Sorry to peeps that did not recieve a PM. I went back through about 6 pages of posts when the idea was first mooted and PMed everyone i could find that had there facility activated. This is the PM is sent to all Thinking about organising a meet that all of Scotland can get involved in. The main item would be a central meeting point so that it is a fair distance for all to travel to. i.e Stirling or Perth. Time would be in the summer some time preferably. i.e July or August Please let me know your thoughts on this as it would be good to get all the Scoobies together Sorry if any one felt left out Grant
malky Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I think this is a good idea but I have a few concerns, the first is you have classed it as "informal meet" & "informal gathering" should we not try and do the Scottish Big Yun proper and go through the proper channels within the club i.e. get the Ro's/Scottish Co ordinator/The Boss & the clubs own events organiser (Muddy) involved. This would make it a proper event(backed by the club) that may attract more visitors from other parts of the country, an "informal meet" I think would put some people of from attending. Secondly a proper team has to be put together to pull this off successfully(not necessarily Ro's, just volunteers) who will organise all the details for the day/days. Hopefully this can be a well organised event just like The Northern Big One/Jae/Doncaster etc, maybe if we have a good "Scottish Scoobies" presence at these events then that would encourage some English,Welsh & Irish members to attend our National day.
JohnSt Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Doug, you got time tomorrow for a chat about Kames (P.S. I wish you f3ckers would learn to spell it ) St3ph3n, yes that is the sign you see, although the locals have slightly misleadingly called it 'Rally Track' on the sign, go up and have a look if you are passing. There is no longer a motor museum at Doune, as said before its now and Arts and Crafts shop. The old boy passed the estate on to his son to avoid death duties and sonny ain't into cars so things changed. The Hillclimb is still held there (though it was touch and go for a while). The area that used to be paddock is now the carpark for the shop and they won't let you use it. That leaves the field which is huge but usually full of sheep, great when dry, but a muck pond in the wet !! ---john---
dougster Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Aye spolled Caimz write!!!! Call me in the afternoon or tonight John. Thanks.
