Be Careful Who You Take Insurance With

Recommended Posts

That's me insured my Evo 5 again for next year, I had thought about taking it off the road and using it exclusively for the track as it was a bit pricey for the use it was getting but thought I would try some quotes.

Last year I was with Keith Michaels at more than £900

This year nothing has changed apart from an extra years no claims of course, making it 7 now.

I've had quotes from A Plan, Green light, Sky, Adrian flux and Paceward.

All these quotes ranged from £440 - about £520.

I went with Paceward in the end, the reasons being that Dan was very helpful on the phone, he matched the best quote and I have the option of being able to buy track cover if I decide I want it.

I suppose it is my own fault falling for the patter they fed me on the phone last year but as I had used them when I was younger with my heavily modded Subaru I trusted them when they told me on the phone that they were shocked at how cheap £900 was for me on that car

Its plain to see though that KEITH MICHAELS are nothing but thieves when all the other companies I tried were so close to each other and less than half their price.

I think there's lots of thigns come into accoutn between different companies.. SO far Keith michaels have been cheapest for me in recent years.. I shop around each time although not heard of paceward before..

For comparison I had completely opposite results.. e.g. Keith Muchaels got me close to £500 whereas A Plan and Adrian flux wanted over 1,000 for me! Sky came closest at £700 odd

It's clearly difficult to reccomend one company over another, dunno if it's postcode, age, licence, or what it is.. But I get lots of 'interestung' quotes each year..

It is a shame though that Keith Michaels is supposed to be supportive of the club yet can come close to some other quotes.. :brickwall:

I had a series McRae insured with direct line which i was paying £500 for. The year after it went to £600.

Then i bought a blobeye WRX, they wanted an extra £100 for a newer car. Went with sainsburys who did it for £500. Im now with Keith Michaels who blew them all out the water, £390

Keith Michaels couldn't touch my last 2 premiums, by a long shot. Everyone is different that's why you need to shop around. Gary Moulson was very honest and helpful when I spoke to him, and treated me very well. Just couldn't quote me happy.

Swings and roundabouts. All the OP has proved is that it pays to shop around and not accept the first offer.

:iagree: no one insurance company is best fo prices.

Although for standard cars I've found elephant/admiral group very competitive..

Thieves? Well done on getting a cheap quote, but if you put your details on here for others to see I'm sure they'll agree that quote is amazingly cheap.

ScoUK... I like to think I'm very supportive of the club, but sometimes I'm up against a quote that I just can't get close to. I don't think any insurer will guarantee to be the cheapest on every quote they do.

Thieves is a bit harsh lol, in specific every insurance company are a bunch of thievin' gits anyway :P

That is a huge difference in price tho and very odd KM weren't competitive!

You did give them all the right details ...

Definitely. KM were miles out. But are generally good. Cant win them all, or they would be the only insurance company.

Didn't mean my comment to sound like a direct comment on yourself.. Just generally, as you say Keith Michaels can't beat every quote. Just to confirm, you've been repeatedly best for me in recent years with the Impreza. A specialist subaru insurer who could guarantee to beat any quote would be a winner for the club.. KM sadly can't always do that for everyone

As a general comment on car insurance, it would be interesting to discover why some quotes are so different between specialist companies. Is it purely postcode, age, length of time the car has been owned for etc. Insurance quotes seem to be all over hte place these days.. Mostly to give people an idea as to what coudl help get their insurance premiums down. I.e. move house, change modifications, do extra driver training etc. Actually with the news this year of subaru drivers being the least likely to claim on insurance has this has any affect on insurance premiums this year? Woudl be good if it has.. Still looking to try get the impreza to sub £500 :D

The thing about Subaru's being the lowest claimed on vehicle is something we've know for a few years, hence our competitive prices (i like to think, lol)

The aren't the lowest claimed on vehicle by a long way, there are lots of makes that were missed off that list (supercars for example)

The problem is the amount paid out, rather than claims ratio. A claim on a Subaru tends to be a big one (ofter a write off) as the accidents tend to be higher speed ones, rather than bumper to bumper nudges.
