RosieFreak Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Having never used clay bars on the car before I am looking to give it a go. What are people favourite clay? What bar would you recommend?
spect Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I use the Meguires stuff, but I should think they are all much of a muchness.
g1983 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Definitely get a bilt hamber clay bar. Uses water to lubricate, not fancy sprays like others
lewisscoob Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Haha - fancy spray = a tiny bit if fairy in water?!
l3mhn Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Meguires for me too, buy they're clay bar kit, everything you need plus a wee bottle of cleaner wax
g1983 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Not really mcguires are just overpriced, like auto glym
salsa-king Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 i did the 'how to' for carkandy http://www.carkandy.co.uk/how-to-1-w.asp
C_WRX Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Wow how the topics have changed on here in the last few years - whenever I used to put a pic of a freshly shined up car on was told to get off to Detailing World . You won't go far wrong with majority of the clay bars you buy from a decent detailing shop e.g. CleanYourCar. If never used one before take 5mins to read up on the how to, easy process to do but couple of important guidelines that could help. If giving the car a proper clean then claying is a must. Personally I just go with either the Meguiars or Sonus (mainly cause bought loads of it while back) along with the Megs Last Touch spray (I also use this drying the car so has double purpose to me)...but the Bilt Hamber reads up well and if you don't need the spray to go along with then cost effective option also. Also no need for any of the aggressive types of claybar, think using the manufacturers wording either soft or mild should be fine.
RosieFreak Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 Cheers guys, I have ordered the Bilt Hamber medium and soft pack of ebay. Looking forward to seeing the effect.
g1983 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 BILT HAMBER....... THE CLASSICS CHOICE (ALSO USED ON NEWAGES)
mctwistuk Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Are you guys getting commission from bilt Humber or something lol
ccrien Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Need to try it myself to believe. How long have these clay bars been around then ? Seen them just a couple of years or so ago, I tend not to believe in the hype of owt new until well established or at east accepted by the real world if you know what I mean? Will it work on cars that are driven all year round not just the April to October crowd?. Edited May 21, 2013 by ccrien

You will be surprised how much tar and sheit it takes of even the cleanest looking paint work. and smooth as a baby ass.
scoobywho Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Are you guys getting commission from bilt Humber or something lol Theres an idea, sidc branded clay bars 1
baldobaz Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Chemical guys blue clay is pretty good, but yeah any decent clay bar work, if you have never tried it before start with a soft clay rather than a hard, you'll be amazed at how dirty a "clean" car actually is.
baldobaz Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 On a related note, fairy liquid will strip any protection you have on your paint and can lead to laquer peeling, and never use a sponge to was your car, you would be aswell using a sanding block.

Bought it. got home and i use the 2 bucket method and gave my car a good going over and wash etc and it looked great. Then thought lets try this clay bar stuff. Thinking the motor looked fine nice and clean and shiney i didnt expect it to make much difference . **** me i couldnt believe how much dirt was still on the car after washing it ! well worth a try .
