mctwistuk Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Can anyone tell me what a prodrive backbox with non resonated centre and second cat deleted would sound like ie how loud is it as I am trying to decide what to do with the exhaust. I have all the cats and resonator in place with a prodrive backbox. Is it loud or quiet? Cheers Chris

I have all the cats and resonator in place with a prodrive backbox. Is it loud or quiet? Cheers Chris I have a 2.5 Hawk with PPP front sports cat and PPP rear box and have just replaced the resonated centre section with a Scoobyworld supplied Afterburner pipe with an integrated performance silencer. For me, this upgrade is ideal - it provides a moderate, purposeful increased exhaust note without in car intrusion. Should also give a bit more BHP. A couple of years ago, I fitted a Hayward & Scott straight through centre pipe, but the resultant drone was unacceptable and I reverted to the OEM section. For me, the new configuration is ideal - unless you are looking for loud! John
scouk Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I have very similar configuration on my bugeye.. It's not ASBO terratory but had a nice growl do it, But not OT! Subtle at low rpm with the ever present drumbeat but open it up and it roars nicely! Sounds much louder outside the car than inside See this thread for a shot clip on cold start: http://forums.sidc.co.uk/topic/158661-exhaust-sound-clips/page__view__findpost__p__1446602 Once it stops snowing or piddling with rain and wind, I'll get a better clip make up..
mctwistuk Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 Cobra do a cat delete pipe for second cat for £69 delivered including gaskets and scoobyworld do the afterburner non res centre section for about £90 I think so though about this route possibly with either ninja sport cat or cobra sport cat downpipe next year. This is a very cost effective option or do I go for full meercat sport cat system which is quite costly but a proven good system.
scouk Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I've got a 2nd hand PPP de-cat pipe that I got off a member on here years ago (can't remember who) Still works fine.. Also got a up-pipe from a classic (which was decatted vs my WRX which was catted) Then afterburner de-resonated pipe to the PPP backbox.. Still running standard DOwnpipe.. Going to stick with that until the cat inside dies, then replace it..

fai17 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Chris. All your options seems to be price orientated which makes reccomendation difficult. You can't compare apple to oranges as they say. The hardest place is the middle, what is loud to one is quiet to the other. You pay your money you take your chance. Meerkat all the way from me as its a fitted price and comes with a garrentee that is hard to beat. Mind you have fitting charges on top of your list price.
fai17 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Plus I remember Andy saying that the prodrive backbox is quite restrictive due to its design.
mctwistuk Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks for the wise words of wisdom as always peter. Just wanted to get opinions on prodrive box. Meercat is gucci in the exhaust world and just wondered what other options were as money isn't as readily available as years gone by. Don't want to spend money unnecessarily when gill has shoes to buy lol:-)
corsa Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Chris, i still have my Firestorm backbox in the garage if you want to stick that on to see what you think of that ? My mate has a garage in EK so could assist there if you want ? Davie
fai17 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 That's a great offer from Davie that you can't knock back Chris. Good man Davie.
mctwistuk Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks for the offer davie. I have thought this over and have decided to go down the meercat route. I was looking at ways of getting the 2nd cat off and centre just now without going the full exhaust route as well. Guess the whole new car need more power syndrome got better of me. I will just need to be content with what I have and save for the full system and remap next year. Some gucci bling will be eating the funds soon
