Martin S
Hi guys, Ive been looking on here for a while and have just registered. I have an 05 sti which i got around july last year. Its all standard apart from a decat exhaust and a bov which were both fitted when i bought it. I need new discs and pads and although there is already a couple topics on here i just thought id check for what people recommend me. So far ive been looking at brembo on scooby parts. Not wanting to spend too much but i want something decent at the same time. Also any opinions on braded hoses and fluid? Makes etc? And is it worth putting in a different panel filter for better performance? Cheers, Martin Link to comment
mctwistuk
Hello and welcome. Has the car been remapped due to it having a decat and bov? Upgraded panel filter is a good move. Lot of folk using performance friction pads these days but I am just getting back into this modding malarky as I am getting my 3rd scoob on Sunday. Been away from the fold for 2 years but you always end up back. Chris Link to comment
spect
You will get a lot of opinions, but most of the brakes on recent Scoobs are good anyway. Nothing wrong with Brembo stuff at all. If you are going to track it regularly then maybe an upgrade to a bigger brake system would be good. Hoses always good to upgrade, fluid - no, you cannot just swap it. Remap should have been done, if not get it done and enjoy it Air filter is a good idea too. Oh yes and welcome!! Link to comment
Martin S
Thanks for the replies.. As far as I know the car hasn’t been remapped. I know you should when you’ve got upgrades but do you not get any power increase until you do this?. I have no idea what my car would be sitting at right now regarding bhp etc! That will be next on my list after recovering from the brake prices!! To be honest it will probably never be on the track with me. Would you recommend a panel filter or change it to one of the cone shaped intakes? Sorry for all the questions but ive never really modded a car due to previous cars being the likes of r32’s etc that I was happy to leave standard Link to comment
mctwistuk
Panel filter is fine for what you plan to do. Pipercross is getting some good reviews. Is the CEL on when you drive? If car hasn't been re-mapped then you should get this done. Link to comment
Martin S
ive seen the pipercross ones and hks. Thought they are not a bad idea considering they arent too expensive either. No the engine light isnt on when i drive. I only know that the car had the decat and bov, didnt ask at the time if it was mapped. Link to comment
paul555sti
I have just had standard brembo discs and brembo sport pads fitted to my 05 with braided hoses and I am very impressed with the set up so far. Bought them all from alyn at AS performance. Link to comment
wrx kenny
I have just had standard brembo discs and brembo sport pads fitted to my 05 with braided hoses and I am very impressed with the set up so far. johnmacdonald
I found standard Brembo set up on my previous widetrack 2.0 STi type UK PPP perfectly adequate for normal fast road driving, but Goodrich s/steel braided hoses definitely improved things. For the STi and current 2.5 WRX PPP, have been pleased with Pipercross replacement panel filters. Link to comment

Martin S
thanks for all the info guys. Looks like i'll probably go for the brembo with goodrich hoses. The next question. Drilled or grooved?? Link to comment
spect
An STi power is normally around the 266 bhp mark I think. Decatting will not add much to the power (mine went from 227 to 235 bhp) until you remap, then you should be around 330 bhp at a rough guess. You really should get it remapped as doing the decat will change the way the engine works. Do not want to scaremonger but you could damage it if you do not get it sorted. SOmetimes the CEL comes on with cars that have the decat and no remap. A bit technical to go into here about what the changes do really. The best thing to think of when modding is: 1. Can I stop properly? 2. Can I go round corners properly? if the answer to that is yes then next is 3. Do I need more power? The answer to 3 is always yes incidently but you do need to consider that a car with a good suspension and brake set up will be better to drive than oone with a poor setup and lots of power. The only other mod is to get the seat to sterring wheel interface unit trained! (That is the driver to you and me). Enjoy your car Link to comment

Martin S
Im away to get the rear anti roll bar bushings changed as they are causing some knocking. Last time it was at the mechanics he just did a quick fix to keep it going for a while. I would be happy with around 330-350 bhp. Obviously ive read of Andy Forrest on here, any rough idea the cost of a remap by him? Cheers Link to comment
marko72
Hi. Ecutek remap with Andy F will be £600+. Thats what mine was a couple of years ago. Alot, but it does make the world of difference to the car. Also worth considering would be Trackhound tuningwho is getting good reviews on here. Uses open source remapping I believe which means bout half the price but dont quote me. Ecutek costs alot due to the licence needed. Open source no licence required as far as i know. Another vote for grooved discs. Goodridge and HEL for your braided hoses. Just put mintex 1144 pads on the car, alot better than standard, sure your brembo pads, discs will be fine. Cheers. baldobaz
For brakes and stuff i found camskill to be reasonably priced, i have sti fronts and standard wrx rears on my 04 wrx, all new discs and pads plus hel brake lines, oh my what a diffirence, i reckon decent fluid and stainless lines are a better upgrade than people think. jimmer
Next day brakes, for brembo! Pipercross panel filter, for me! Agree with terry(spect) about re map! Just to be sure! I went to camskill for my Hel brake hoses, very quick too, just over a week! Edited April 6, 2012 by jimmer Link to comment
scooby222
Remap really depends on what you mean by decat, if you have standard or ppp downpipe youl be ok without a remap although it will make the most of it, has your car got ppp on it? Panel filter will be fine for you, I'm still running one at 380 no problems. Cosworth also do a good one. Brembo discs with mintex 1144 pads and goodridge braided hoses was a great cost effective setup on mine, have a word with alum at as performance, great advice and prices. And don't ever go for drilled - dimpled or grooved is the way to go! And welcome along, whereabouts are you based? Link to comment
Martin S
Thanks for all the replies so far, they've all been really helpful. Scooby222 i have been told that there are two cats in the scooby exhaust system. Is this right? When buying the guy told me it had only the main cat removed. It doesnt have the PPP. I am up in aberdeen mate. Looks like you have the same car as me. If you dont mind what mods do you have to get 380 from it? Cheers Link to comment
spect
I think newage have 2 cats and classic have 3. Only 2 in my Hawkeye (at least there were). I wonder which one he considered the main? Link to comment
scouk
Classics had two I believe, downpipe & center pipe.. Newage WRX (at least mine) did have three.. STi's have decatted u-pipe like classics. PPP removes the center pipe (3rd cat).. But as you say not sure what woudl be considered the 'main' cat. I woudl consider the downpipe to be the major one, but no point removing that an leaving the center cat in there. Best thign to do woudl be to have a peek under the car and see if there's a cat in teh pipe just under where the driver/passenger sits. P.s. Welcome! If your interested keep an eye out for any club meets in teh Aberdeenshire area We're all a freidnly bunch.. Some mad, orther less so.. Link to comment
Melly-Doo
I thought newage STIs only had the one cat in the downpipe? Cheers, Melly Link to comment
scouk
hmnnn.. could be... Edited to add: New Prodrive-developed Performance Packs (PPP) are now available for the ’06 Model Year turbocharged Impreza 2.5 WRX, WRX STI plus the latest Forester 2.5 XT manual. All kits are available from any Subaru dealer for £1,700 including VAT and fitting and do not affect the standard vehicle warranty. All also pass full UK Type Approval regulations for noise and emissions. The extra power and torque are achieved by re-programmed Electronic Control Units (ECU) plus the removal of the rear catalytic converter, fitment of a high-flow catalyst and sports silencer. The Impreza WRX STI also has a new high-flow fuel pump. Suggesting the 3rd cat is in place on the newages For reference.
