za - sti Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Hi there, just purchased a 2006 sti and noticed when cold the first gear and 5th and 6th a bit sticky once its been going no issue anyone know if this is a come issue and any ideas to fix gratefully received cheers za
lewisscoob Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I would be looking to check the gearbox oil level.
beastie Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Fairly common, mines a pig to put into first when cold. Doesnt take long to warm up. My other scoobies RB5 and MY 97 were the same.
johnmacdonald Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Agree with earlier comment. Previous classic turbo, RB5, and 2006 STi difficult when very cold. Oddly, current hawkeye isn't!
spenno Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I have the same problems as the other guys but as said before it doesnt take long to warm up and all is fine again, so I wouldnt be too worried mate.
euan_r Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 never had a 6spd but ive always used syntrax/driveline thats recommended. Changed recently to redline shockproof lightweight to see if it improved a slighlty worn synchro, it didnt, but changes feel slicker in other gears and when its cold.
scooby222 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 my 6 speeders always been ok although it isnt the smoothest shift warm or cold but it is very positive and mechanical feeling which i quite like a change of oil in our old integra did wonders for the smoothness of shift though
johns Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 In my previous Sti, I found that slightly overfilling the gearbox oil helped a lot with the smoothness when cold. My current SpecD gearbox is fine in all gears both hot and cold.
arch Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Poss the carbon coated synchro's helping in your box John. I use millers CRX LS 75w90 NT.
arch Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Alex if your box is a hawkeye box it will alos have the coated synchro's.
johnmacdonald Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Alex if your box is a hawkeye box it will alos have the coated synchro's. Thanks for that Arch! And I have been recommended to use Millers gearbox & diff oils at next service.
za - sti Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 cheers for all the replies its a 2006 spec d - only happens in morning - likewise it seems to go away after running for a wee while just changed the box oil but still the same this morning - find double d clutching helps cheers alex thanks Arch - used gulf racing 75w90 on special at opies - you getting the race car out this year
arch Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Alex there is oil and then there is proper oil. Sure will, hoping for beginning of April but not sure its achievable, but wont be for the lack of effort.
johns Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Look forward to seeing your car in action again Arch
