highland fling - IMPORTANT

I thought i should let people know that due to circumstances outwith my control, there may have to be an alteration to this years route which would make it unfeasible to do Applecross.

within the last few weeeks and since the planning and booking was done there has been a blockage to an integral part of the route with no available diversion :( at the moment there is no timescale for the road reopening so all i can do is keep my fingers crossed and plan an alternative route to skye as a backup.

make no mistake, the same timeframe, miles and accomadation will all be used and there will be some great driving roads taken in regardless but applecross may have to wait til another year

hope you all understand and il keep you posted folks

Shame.. but for those that know the applecross road it does close suddenly from time to time due to problems with the road itself. Often closed for several days each year to resurface and rebuild parts here and there.. Such a shame there working on it during the fling.. But I think we'd all rather prefer it was safe..! :Scottish-flag:

Good we got the heads up early before trundling over there and raalising it's closed.. :icon_salut:

theres a chance it may be ok it just depends on highland councils timetable, im keeping my fingers crossed but thought id warn people now.

really gutted as im looking forward to the beallach but theres enough other roads that itl make up for it - particularly excited for friday and theres now a local tie in point for those coming from aberdeen on the friday..... ;) drop me a goat for details :D

Yeow! didn't realise it was taking so long to get those roads sorted out! I thought a few weeks at most.. Sounds like it was much more serious that I thought!

cheers Del and all going to plan we're back in business folks! will keep an eye on progress of the special road and clearing the landslip - if its not going fast enough ive a couple of diggers thatl clear it 'unofficially'

I'd rather have thought mentioning "Beallach" and "Skye" was a big enough clue for all concerned...

But Dave went over this with me yesterday... if the section in question remains shut, it simply ain't feasible to do both. We're committed to Skye with the hotel bookings... and there won't be a shortage of other braw roads to go play on... trust me!!!!

There's always another year for the Beallach

if you put 'place name' road closure into google youl see a very encouraging report that Del found - looks like it should all be good, now if someone can fix the weather for us..... :occasion14:

'The Local Council are advising that the road is scheduled to reopen, with restrictions, around 17th February although this date is subject to change.'

and its due to be fully open by 17th march, so plenty of time before we need it

Plan A is go, Beallach na ba here we come :D
