scouk Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) Getting quotes in for set of 4 wheels refurbed.. Was origonally thinking about £200 all in, but now looks like it's gonna cost a wee bit more than that... Tyre removal, dipped, blasted, repaired, painted, new tyres fitted and balanced.. How much? Edited November 10, 2011 by ScoUK
stevief Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Had the origanal WRX wheels done recently by the Wheel Specialist at Dyce, £330ish for tyres off, blasted, scuffs removed, powder coated, center caps painted to match, tyres back on and balanced. Excellent job and cheaper than getting just the faces done by smart repair. Steve
lewisscoob Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Not sure if there is anyone in your area but whatever you do Al, avoid finesse coatings in Aberdeen. PPS have a good name here. Edited October 10, 2011 by lewisscoob
wilbo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Considering this at the moment also and quotes have ranged from £192 to £400 for a set of 18s.
scouk Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Hmnn.. maybe my thoughts on pricing is outdated... PPS was top of my list for places to try.. Lots of good feedback about them and not just from scoobs.. Just a little out of the way.. Got a quote locally for £70/wheel which given the comments above doesn't sound as bad as I first thought... Hmnn...
scoobywho Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 If u can drop them into central powder coating in east kilbride u will get it for 40 a wheel 18 inch if u say u know scott from auto image
scouk Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Cheers for the thought.. But cost of getting them sent down there and back and getting tyres fitted would most likely outweigh the savings.. Good price though for anyone in that area
ciaranrb5 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I would be getting them painted rather than powder coated as 1. If you scuff one wheel and know the colour you can get it sorted 2. have seen wheels crack due to the powder coating process
scouk Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 My preference is to get them painted rather than powder coated.. Infact my intention was to do it myself but not got the blasting cabnet built yet and the weather isn't really suitable for spraying now.. too cold & damp Looking like I'll probably just go with the place in Lossiemouth at £70/wheel.. Unless any last minute suggestions come along.. Will post back a review of the work if/when they get done.. Thanks for the feedback guys!

davey l wrx Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Painting is the way to go Al thats what happens when you have them coated.... the alloy doesn't like the heat treatment. There was a mobile company in Moray that did wheel referb's i'll have a look for their details when i get back to kinloss on sunday.
scoobywho Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Central powder coating in east kilbride. Tell them scott from auto image sent u. very special price
scouk Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Well dropped the wheels and tyres off at TotalTrax on monday.. Picked up this afternoon and have to say.. Top Job! Some before and aftrer piccies.. Before: After: Will try keep them off the car an indoors for a few weeks to let the paint cure properly But lookin good so far! Pretty thorough job of cleaning the surface right back and starting from scratch! Good attention to detail even down to puttting the center caps back on in-line with the valve caps Cost? £70/wheel.. Which, sure there are cheaper places around but it's not a bad price IMHO.. Each wheel stripped of it's tyre, blasted, dipped, skimmed with wire brush before applying primer/paint/laquer. Then, winter tyres fitted and wheels balanced! All in a couple of days.. Wasn't to fussed about the speed part but good on him for doing it! Anyone Interested contact Stewart McNeill at TotalTrax, 07799 219451 - Located on Shore Street in Lossiemouth.. www.TotalTrax.co.uk
BalliSTIc Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I take it your £70 was go in with tyres on, then removed and replaced?
scouk Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Pretty much.. Wheels dropped off with with worn unbranded tyres and fresh set of winter tyres.. Came back with winter tyres fitted & wheels balanced.
paul555sti Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Looking good Al! Getting my freshly painted winter wheels back tomorrow , pics to follow!
