Gumball Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) Today i took the deathstar out for its first run somewhere. the twisties followed long straights and as you can imagine i needed stopping power in a hurry, often. the pedal felt almost jammed in place a lot of the time with nothing happening. no ability to stop fast at all infact, at one point i almost had to stand on them to make them stop. so.... having used mintex 1144, yellow stuff abc, red stuff abc and standard newage pads, what advice and where can i get some good pads for the RB320 please? ill probably change the brake fluid at the same time. tomorrow ideally Edited November 12, 2010 by GUMBALL
addison Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 contact ian at http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/home.htm he knows all will put you right
euan_r Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 how did you get on with the m1144 chris? i will never use ebc after going through a red set in 3k about five years ago and they didnt do the discs much good either. I fixed a pals car in the summer with ebc yellow and thought they were quite wooden when testing it. have also used ds2500 and m1155. the ds2500 overheated on a wet knockhill and the m1155 i used over a winter, where tbh i dont think i was generating enough heat and wasnt getting full use of them. i think a lot will depend if car is daily driver or only used for a blast?
davey l wrx Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 contact ian at http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/home.htm he knows all will put you right Have to second that... i got in touch with Ian earlier this year and fitted the Kevlar fast road pads and i can't fault them to be honest
soundie Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I've been using ferodo 2500's for about 3 years (same set) on my AP's. just ordered a new set for my ring trip, only to be on the safe side cos there's loads left. I do recommend them! This guy came highly recommendedby dunc at hypertech for brake pads http://www.circuitsupplies.com/ - 01525 385 888 Cheers, Chris.
soundie Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 infact, at one point i almost had to stand on them to make them stop. might have more to do with the type of fluid than the pads? sounds cooked!
mikeyb13 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I use Pagid Blues on the Lotus and they are awesome and seem to get better on the track. A bit expensive but they have lasted very well so worth it IMHO http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=14&products_id=248 I dunno if the do an Impreza pad but Carbotech Pads are getting good reviews over on SE too
wilky Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 http://www.performancefriction.com/ These are the ones Scott likes, he is sore on his brakes like you and swears by them. The higher the pad temp, the more chance you have of warping standard discs, remember you last expenses on discs with the last scooby. Choose wisely. Callum
kennyuk300 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Chris. Have got the Performance Friction Z pads (not fit yet),was given advice by Alyn at AS Performance .He told me that the heat threshold was higher than the DS2500,and they were better priced. Kenny
micra_wrc Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I read your thread subject and thought oh no, somethings happened already good to know the car is ok lol I use ferodo in the RA and not had any problems. Didn't like Mintex cos they squeek during braking.
Gumball Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 thanks for all the feedback. much appreciated. soundie made a good point. could the fluid be cooked? pads were put on the car not long before the engine rebuild, so they have done 1500miles or so and performed like shat el arab from the off. hmmmmmmm i think from memory the 1144s did squeek and i liked it cos they worked so well aside from this. maybe i should get the fluid checked? this possible? ps- mullac, i dont really understand your grammer there lol

Gumball Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 nah it started within the first 2 miles of road.
scooby222 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 i really liked the mintex 1144s with standard discs and braided lines, the setup ive got now is ferodo ds2500's and godspeed 2 piece discs and im very unimpressed with them... as soon as funds allow its bigger caliper time for me but then i ten to be on the brakes all the time, little old lady that i am
Gumball Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 i think the mintex 1144 or 1155 is a good shout. EBC have let me down twice now. not for me All i need to do now if find a cheap online purchase for front and rears and ill swap them out in the driveway anyone know where? mail order?
scooby222 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 think as mentioned above as performance are pretty good on price and service - last time i got 1144's from AWD they were about 90 quid for the sti brembo's
Richie Cross Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Chris, if you speak to Ian Godney, he may mention EBC Bluestuff. Apparently they've re-jigged their pads and the Bluestuff are getting rave reviews on Scoobynet. Folk are saying they work well from cold. Ian quoted me £110 for front pads to fit a 330mm disc.
RA Dunk Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 the setup ive got now is ferodo ds2500's and godspeed 2 piece discs and im very unimpressed with them... Similar set up to mine (apart from the AP calipers) and I actually think it's pretty good, the pads and discs wear well and provide decent stopping even from cold, Godspeed used to give a full years warranty on his discs thats including trackdays as well (dont know if he still does though)
Gumball Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 I see godspeed do kits rather than pads only? maybe mistaken. best price i can find so far is £160 delivered in a day from camskill, for front and rear 1144s

The hotter your pads make standard discs, the more chance you stand of warping the discs. Edited November 11, 2010 by Wilky
scooby222 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 godspeed offer a years warranty but try using it - i know of 2 other members on here who like me have vibration issues as soon as theres any heat in the discs and godspeeds response is take the discs off and send them back so we can check them. may just be a faulty batch but considering how much i spent on them they dont perform as well as the standard discs with the mintex pads having been in badbaz's car at kames i can say the performance friction pads and discs do work very well
soundie Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 there seem to be a lot of bad reports here about the ferodo 2500's. My ap's with 355 discs they work totally well! Maybe with smaller discs and calipers they aren't up to it or something?
dan_jess Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Ive got DS2500 on my car, i think they work very well. Give Alyn at AS performance a call http://asperformance.com/contact/ He will sort you out and is brilliant to deal with over the phone, giving good advice.
arch Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I would recommend Performance Friction Z compond, these are about the best all round pad for Brembo's. I use these on the race RA and my road car and I have tried several other makes and componds and nothing has come close for all round performance. As stated above Alyn at AS performance always has good deals on them if you mention SIDC
