Why cant I sell my car ?

As some of you may know, I have been trying to sell my car for a very, very long time now so I can put a deposit down on a house, but I cannot seem to give this ****ing car away.

I have been trying to sell the car for about 6 or 7 months now (I remember this because it was needing taxed at the time), and haven't had a single person come to view the car in all this time!

It has been on autotrader 5 times !!! (At £30 per time), and I have even tried to sell it through an auction (£60) to no avail.

In addition to this, it has been on pistonheads, and every other car/bike forum that I am a member on (quite a few of them).

So thats £210 on advertising alone + I have had to tax it again because I have nowhere to keep it off the road.

The first time it was advertised on autotrader I had advertised it at around £5500, and have dropped the price by a couple of hundred each time it was advertised since, and it now sitting at £4000 and still no calls or **** all!!!

I paid £6000 for the car less than 1 year ago, and did lots of work on it (timing belt, tyres, brakes, etc). I know this shouldn't be a factor when trying to sell the car on but seems like an awful lot of money wasted.

Recently I put it through an auction and got a final bid of £3000 (less than half price of what I paid) - and if I accepted the bid I would only get £2000+ due to auction fees, etc.

Surely its worth more than that.

I cant really think why there isn't any interest in the car. In the passed 6/7 months I have had:

1 user on here say they 'might be interested'.

1 guy in work say he would speak to me about the car (but hasn't).

1 fone call from a guy from Aberdeen say he would come (but didn't).

I have even done another HPI check on it incase it has any problems I didn't know about, but it comes back clear.

I have also have these signs on my rear windows as well, and park it right at the front door of a busy supermarket everyday:

I know that there is plenty other Imprezas out there so it might be difficult to compete with them, but most (if not all) of the Imprezas of the same spec, age, mileage, condition on places like autotrader and pistonheads, etc are all priced higher than mine.

Anyone on here got any advice ?

Sorry to hear youre struggling to sell. Seems a recurring trend of late what with everyone tightening their belts.

Have you looked in the latest Parkers for price guides? It might give you an idea of current Market value?

Is the car modified at all? If so, it might be worth returning it to standard.

Photos are often seen as key as gives instant visual clues as to how well a car's been cared for etc.

Sure someone more clued up will be along soon enough with some advice ;)

no photos, what model is it, how old is it,

youve got to think of it as if you it were you looking, would you even look at an ad with no photos.

get it on pistonheads with load of photos and as much of a description as you can, put on the ad youve had the belts changed and whatever you have had done

that ad is a big fail

:iagree:

First thought when reading that is what model of car is it.. WRX ok.. but what year? could be anything from 1990's to 2010. ;)

I'm guessing it's a blobeye so say 03/04?

Photos are a must for car sales.

Also what colour is it?

general location in the country?

price wise 4200 is possibly about right. My 01 Bugeye WRX with 72k is only worth about £3,000 book price, But as mentioned above, The Impreza isn't generally a saught after car unless you want one. And even then most people buy a car based on colour & how it looks so photos are a must!

On the plus side, a standard car should attract attention!

If you post some links up for the online ads it may help give better feedback..

That picture above, of the advert, is what I have on my rear windows just now.

Every time it has been on gumtree, pistonheads, autotrader, I have put on lots of photos (about 10 of them - showing all angles of the car - inside and out). And all the same information, such as colour, year, standard, etc.

I think I got lucky when I sold mine as it went in less than a fortnight. I remember you were interested at the time as well Gaz. Welsho's still trying to shift his too and it's a cracking car.

Just not a seller's market at the moment at all.

Thought about We Buy any car?

This is a classic right?

There are a lot of classics on pistonheads with red tops and big power, type Rs, RAs etc etc for similar prices just now

1. People have no money

2. Your competiting within a price point alongside the above

I dont find the window adverts work at all and rarely would you get a call other than bampots at traffic lights who think they are funny.

How badly do you need to sell?

Could you PX if you still need a car, then sell their car for the deposit? sometimes a ford focus 1.8 zetec is easier to sell than an impreza

Could you take the hit and sell it for 3 something?

You could try taking it along to car shows, meets, various cruises etc. People at these events are perhaps going to be who you are looking to sell to. They will see, hear it, drive it? there and then.

Or keep it and find your deposit another way.

Good luck.

Yup, same here. Tried about everything; car isn't shifting, I'm stuck with it. I'm slowly beginning to regret ever getting involved with it. :(

I had the same problem when I was selling my Wagon, plenty of interest & time wasters! But in the end I decided to keep it for a rainy day, it's a bit of a b$gger when they won't shift.

Hope it goes soon.

Also one point not strictly mentioned here.. Overall demand for Impreza is down, classics are getting snapped up by young drivers and in some cases crashing them which puts our insurance up..

But mainly, Subaru isn't the iconic household(?) name it used to be.. No longer part of the WRC and with no big driver names associated with it, like McRae, Burns, Makkinen and or even Block now, many have lost interest in the brand and now look back at ford for their kicks..

How do you reckon?

About 5-10 years ago there were loads of scoobs on the road and new ones at that.. Now there's hardly any but loads of Focus RS's and ST's

Also with the performance difference being less between the impreza and other cars nowadays the impreza isn't always top of people most wanted list..

Those that are genuine scooby enthusiast tend to own one or aren't too far from them... Those that aren't tend to buy one and within 12 months sell it again and get something else usually a focus these days.. And particularly in the current financial climate (I hate that phrase) high insurance/tax/fuel costs isn't the sort of thing that attracts people.

Unless subaru comes back into motorsport evetns I honestly believe the brand has peaked as far as performance car enthusiasts in concerned.. and it' on the downward slope at the other side.. But like many old skoool hot cars, there are those that will always stick with it, because of what it is! :icon_salut:

If someone want to the buy a scoob they will, but there's not many of those people around.. Those that want one tend to already have one.. Which makes it a bugger if your trying to sell and that is something which has definately become more difficult in recent years.
