wrxcook Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Hi was out in my car tonight and went to put the foot down a little and was expecting it to start pulling like hell as usual a 3.5 rpm but there was no boost at all it's like running without a turbo, over the last week or so it has sounded like the exhaust was vibrating of the chassi on occasion if this could have anything to do with it, there is no White smoke and the engine sounds fine also there is no lights on on the dash Edited July 23, 2010 by wrxcook
hi_jac Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 First thing i would check would be the pipe work from intercooler to turbo hasn't blown off.

trogg Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Is your air filter ok? That and pipes between the filter and the turbo should be checked that all is secure and no splits in the pipe etc. Does the engine rev ok all the way up the rev range, just not boost the power when driving?
patsy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Can you hear the turbo spooling up at all? Do you have a boost gauge? Ryan

braveheart Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Sounds like a hose is off or burst I would try and check the hoses again ... May not see a burst hose when off boost, hope it's something as simple as that...
patsy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 long shot here. But what up pipe you using. Is there any flexi joints before the turbo? I had similar problems a while ago. My up pipe flexi joint burst a little and the turbo in turn, ate it! Waste gate was stuck open and turbo was goosed. This happend with no noises or indications at all. Just no boost or spooling noise. My car was flat as a pancake. Revs wouls built up, but very very slowly, even getting to 50mph on the by pass was basically impossible!
colin_ross Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Two common issues that can cause these symptoms...... Cat issues - it can colapse for want of a better word and block the flow. Sounds the most likely given you exhaust noises. Circlip - the circlip that connects the wastegate to the actuator can comeoff leaving you running no boost. Very easy to check. Boost leak would almost certainly leave you with ,massive overfuelling, clouds of black smoke and a very poorly engine if you're still running a maf.
StewartyBoy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I would've also said the flow issue as stated above. If the exhaust has been rattling then chances are its actually been a cat killing itself, then causing a trap.

Hi the only cat that is on the car is a ninja sports cat downpipe it's about 6 months old, also I'm pretty sure I can here the turbo spooling up but will check tomorrow, really hoping it is a hose, when I think of it I was pulling away from the lights pretty slow last week when I heard a loud hissing noise I stopped and checked my tires thinking it was that then put it down to it being a car next to me, but it seemed fine after that, also I could hit motorway speeds no probs it's driving like a 2.0l non turbo is the best way to explain it Edited July 24, 2010 by wrxcook
