sparky_sj04 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Another thing I will say is don't rush yourself too much to get another one. Make sure you wait for the right car. After I smashed my first one I was so keen to banish the memory of the experience and get back in a Scooby that I bought almost the first one I came across without properly thinking about it. It was a mistake because the one I got wasn't a patch on the first one and I lived to regret it. So take your time. What's another month if you've been waiting for years to get one?
thebigfelly Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 ok folks new update that wasnt expected . was expecting a phonecall from the dealer principal down in rotheram to say come get your junk out the car and youl get your money on this date . ....INSTEAD I GOT ..... a very apoligetic regional manager APOLOGISING FOR THE TREATMENT and whats happended and asking if id prefer the work to be carried out or money .and then transfered to the rotheram manager for discusion.. after a long list of questions about work, gaurantes, workmanship, what rights id have and so forth and what work is going to get carried out . IM NOW GETTING MY SHED BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! the reginal director/manager whatever he is told rotheram manager to pay for the stuff if i wanted it done. i said what gaurante do i have that when i get the work done on fixing the tappets that i wont get in the ca and 5miles down the road the car isnt going to muck up, the regional guy spoke to nobles and discussed this with them and said asked what wld needed to be done to make sure there is the slimest posibility of anything further going wrong with the car after the tappets are replaced. nobles reply was apparently replace lots of engine parts and their work is gauranted for 12months except usual wera and tear , so now the car is geting a complete engine strip and parts done- - new tappets ( the original job that rotheram refused to pay for £1200 job) -new timing belt -new cam belt - new valves - new head gasket -new spark plugs me thinks he said -oil change -liquid change .... so i said i was happy for them to do the work and if something else does go wrong we will discuss that in teh future and see about it getting fixed . so add all those new parts to the new wiring harness and wiring loom that has been fittted and i think i mite have made the right choice to get the work done rather than still take the cash.. what do you folks think.? also nobles said as their strip engine out they will check other parts incase something else pops up.
micra_wrc Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I think you should get the regional director/manager to confirm this in writing, including how long this will take and if you will be compensated for the money you've spent when you have been scoob-less I admire your patience throughout this but agree with the consensus of posts and ask for your money back. imy

Spaceman Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 i think if they are going to do that and your ending up with a refreshed engine then it sounds good bud.
scoobyseller555 Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 tappets and valves?????why does it need this done,if they are replacing valves i would defo require a written report to the findings when the engine is stripped. Gav
C_WRX Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Shame your intro to Scoobs is not the best...so far. On the bright side surely can only get better !! Good though that you are sticking with the model as you just seem a little unfortunate. The amount of work to get done is a lot and will cost a fair amount, some items there that you don't need to pay for if you keep the car a while. Also with the guarantee bit it's a bit of piece of mind. As for what to do - I think only you can decide that. Pro's and Con's but only maybe's. Maybe this will fix all the engine issues and you'll have a great running car / mibbee not. Maybe you take the money back and get a better example / mibbee you'll get a car with its own set of new issues. If you do take the car perhaps asking for some time to drive around in the car to be happy yourself that everything is okay. In that time take it to one or two specialists and ask them to have a quick check/listen/etc to the engine and get their professional opinion. Hope all works out.

thebigfelly Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 (edited) sparky_sj04 said: Big time. tappets are getting done because nobles told evanshalshaw that when it got serviced/mot'd the week before i received the car, the garage that done the service/mot put them on to tight and it wasnt letting the valves open properly and causing the engine to over heat . so it was going to be a £1200 job to replace the tappets with new ones , thats why evans halshaw didnt want the work done and just wanted to give me my money back cause they had already spent £500-£600 on the wireing harness and wireing loom, which nobles thought was the original problem , but when the manager down south where i bought the car spoke to his regional manager and told him it had been goin on for 2months now and that he needed his permision to authorise buyin the car back , the regional guy phoned nobles asked what was up and if anything else might be wrong/damaged/ or could go wrong as a result of all the problems its already had, nobles apparently told him that even if they do replace the tappets which were put on too tight that doesnt mean its a definate fix for the engine managemeant light and that sumthing unseen could be wrong and its best to replace alot of parts with brand new ones to reduce the chances of it breaking down again and being returned to them. regional manager said ok were willing to authorise all work on anything that nobles think could and should be replaced with new parts so long as im willing to wait for it to be done and not just take the money back. he told the manager from down south to phone me back aswel explain the situation apologise for the hassle and see if i want the cash or stick with the car. i got told about the entire engine being stripped down , and all these parts geting replaced with brand new ones cam belt, timing belt , tappets, valves, oil + liquid changes , head gasket. then their doing a 10mile test drive on it i think rather than a 2min run down the road to make sure the engine heats up and no light comes on and everything runs properly , also told that if there is any major problem in the next few months that ive to phone them up as nobles gaurantee their work and parts for 12months and i have the two year warrenty on the car aswel. so all in all im gona stick with it the now when i do get it back unless it did break down like a week later then i think id be saying just give me my fc#kin money back . because even the now when i was looking for a new scoob i was strugling to find any wrx sti type uk or just wrx sti without mods in my price range that wld leave me money for the insurance aswel . and its a bonus if nothing goes wrong and the car runs smoothly when i get it back that its had all this work done to it buy a proper subaru dealership, by subaru technicians with genuine subaru parts and that lots of the major parts and wireing have all been replaced with brand new parts . also when i do get it back might take andy f up on his offer to have a look over the engine once i get it back so he can check to see if the ecu has been remapped and so forth , Edited June 29, 2010 by thebigfelly

Never heard of tappets being "too tight" as part of a service and MOT. I've not seen the insides of a V8 STi head, but I'm assuming the adjustment is out if somebody has had the engine apart taking tuned parts back out, and not been rebuilt correctly, or due to the mods on the car, the valve seats have been burnt. Either way, get a proper description of the fault and post it on here to get some feedback to see if the car may have other underlying issues. Fixing what has broken doesn't necessarily mean the cause will be gone as well, and the fault may re-appear after the warranty has gone. Keep the car by all means, but cover your butt to save big bills in the future
sparky_sj04 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Quote tappets are getting done because nobles told evanshalshaw that when it got serviced/mot'd the week before i received the car, the garage that done the service/mot put them on to tight and it wasnt letting the valves open properly and causing the engine to over heat . In that case the valves will also be burnt, as may the cylinder walls, as may the heads, as may the pistons, as may the turbo, as may the exhaust......... If the tappets were too tight then they wouldn't let the valves CLOSE and the engine would run like a bag of bones. The resultant unburnt fuel that would inevitably be burning everywhere would burn off the oil film on the cylinders, it would burn right through the turbo and exhaust not to mention getting into the sump. As mentioned already - If I was you I'd be asking for more than what you are getting. For all the price of pistons I would be wanting them as well. I would also make sure I was in contact with a straight shooter at Nobles and make it perfectly clear that if anything was seen to be even slightly wrong then it should be pointed out. I hope you get this sorted soon mate.
thebigfelly Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 as far as i got told nobles said they will be checking as they take it all apart and will notify evans halshaw if they find anything else that needs done when removing everything , surely if they are replacing the head gasket and that they have to take fo the top of the engine cover and wld see the pistons, atleast if i remember right from the garage programe on the discovery channel when jock changed a head gasket he could see the pistons , or atleast teh top of them , but again im no mechanic and only know lil bits from what ive picked up , also as stated ANDY F offered to give the car engine a wee once over and check to see if ecu was remappped so mite take him up on the offer if its still there when i get it back . just to be on the safe side , atleast i can say to nobles ive taken it to a subaru specialist and theyve said this needs done and so forth ..
Wee Jock Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I see Evans Halshaw are in the Sunday Mail today "The Judge" mibees you should drop him a line! Another customer having the proverbial ripped out them. WJ
foley Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Sorry to hear bout all your trouble mate, But i'd tell them where to stick there car and get your money back, I'd never take a car back thats had that much wrong with it. IMO your going to have nothing but trouble the whole time you have the car, And with it being modded how much stress has the engine had? Probs have engine go pop at some point due to it not being looked after by the previous owner/owners, Good luck tho fella, Nothing wron with a modded car as long as it's been done right,

thebigfelly Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 marko72 said: Any update on this bigfelly? aye the update is.... the guy down south where i bought the car talking to the misus like shes a bit of a blonde bimbo , when she phoned up chasing the cheque for the new tyre i had to get fitted and asking if there was any chance of some kind of good will gesture.. to which michael bolton dealership manager/principal replyed " the good will gesture is us paying £2000 to get the car fixed because not alot of garages would have done that, there was no problems when it left the dealership for delivery up to scotland and he hasnt received a copy of the receipt for the tyre " which now has apparently gone missing , luckily i kept a copy of the invoice .. even though its been faxed twice now for the attention of him , he wouldnt give the misus his regional managers number or contact details even though she asked for it twice , because she didnt care for the way she was being treated and spoken to by him , and his head mechanic and delivery guy are both liars because they told me the light was on and that was due to it being out of petrol which we all know is a load of bull. and aparently his regional manager didnt tell him to do anything , he only has an opinion which the dealership maanger takes on board but doesnt have to listen to him even though the voice mail he left on my phone contradicts everything hes said. as for the car lol ...... the car is ready up at nobles but they wont release the car until they receive payment from down south , which is geting paid in the form of a cheque which was getting sent out wedensday evening , was hoping it wld arrive today but it hasnt , so they now think it should arrive tomorow so i can pick the car up tomorow , hoping anyway .
craigdmcd Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Get a full reprt on what was done by Nobles so all of us experts can give you a second opinion
thebigfelly Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 ok update , the girlfreind got a phonecall saying the car was ready at 2ish today and thot shed suprise me by bringing it home but only after going to her work first to do her shift, ... i get a phone call from her saying shes at tescos down the road and the car wont start ..... go down wi the jump leads it had a flat battery , so while waiting 10 mins to just get some juice in the car i have a nosey around , and the rear passenger alloy has a 3in chuck cleanly snapped off, that defo wasnt there before .. i ask her ( all along containing my anger) if when she picked the car up did they go round wi her to make sure the car was ok when she took the keys, she replys nope they just handed me the keys i got in and drove off to work. now i can already hear and tell what evans halshaw are going to say because at this time of night i cant report it until the tomorow morning , but they will say unless she /i reported it before the car left the forecourt then we have no proof .. but it was either evanshalshaw guy driving it the 10 -15 miles from nobles to portobello or it was nobles who done it and kept quiet and let the guy drive it away........ any sudgestions. and should i get the battery replaced or will a golod drive charge it back up again? im extatic about getin it back but not about finding the alloy is damaged and beyond repair id say , gf swears she hasnt curbed it
gus the bus Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Dont think you have any shout with the garage over the wheel after taking the car away BUT it might be worth a try . Regarding the battery, with the car sitting around so long, it may have just gone flat, my newage and my current car both go flat over two or three weeks if they are not turned over. Hopefully thats all it is
thefastone Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) Yeah that could be Gus, but if they took it the 10 mile test drive (Like they said they would) then it should have plenty of charge in it really I would have thought. However, bearing in mind that it has just had the wiring loom replaced, its also likely that there's a connection somewhere not quite right... (Could just be a bad earth, and an easy fix like...) Still sounds like this manager guy is still being a tot mate... I'm sure that there are other ways to get a hold of the regional manager... More than one way to skin a cat... Try Going straight for the jugular? http://www.evanshalshaw.com/customer_care.aspx Aim as high as you can in the company, and get past that P***k, I'm sure that you will have more luck that way... thebigfelly Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 hes the damage of the alloy , what do we think people repairable or am i fcuked, and need to get a new one ...?
terzo neil Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 thats flooked mate dunno if its repairable looks like it has hit a kerb or big pothole
ciaranrb5 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 That knackered mate You should be able to get a decent condition second hand one for reasonable money though Did the battery charge and the car go OK?
thebigfelly Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 aye cars been running mint so far , only thing is its pulling to the left a lil so think the tracking is off but no sure if thats due to that chunk of alloy missing because that alloy is rear passanger side , so not sure if the toe/tow however u spell it mite be off or if it actualy is the tracking on the front , went on the a68 last nite, nice and quiet not a car in site at soutra hill , with a nice mile and half straight, took it up to 110mph not a problem no worrying noises , so now its just this pulling to the left and the alloy , funds are low so trying to find sumwhere cheap to fix it if fixable or find a cheap gold replacement thats not in particular mint condition, and get the tracking/camber of the tyres/wheels sorted. saw ice dog on here was selling his 4 gold alloys for £300 bud they have now sold , not that i needed the four but just the 1 and £300 was way out the price range, anyone know where a cheap single one would be found if it isnt fixable?
