Vauxhallgazz Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Why does no one want to buy my car off me ? I have never had as much problems selling cars before this and for some reason I was expecting this car to sell fairly quickly. I bought the car last November for £5800, done loads of work to it (brakes, timing belt, tyres, full service), etc. Also put it through an MOT and taxed it too, and yet I have never had a single call regarding it. I have advertised it at £5500 (which is below what other cars of this age, spec, etc are going for on autotrader). Is the recession still here ? I have seen another Impreza, a nice Jag, and 2 motorcycles that I would really like to buy, but can't until I sell this car. It is really frustrating. Anyone else had any problems like this; selling their car ? Or knows how I could get it to sell ? I dont fancy puting it through an auction cos I have sold a car this way before and the amount of money you loss is horrifying. Already spend £60 advertising on autotrader too.
scotsman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Sorry it's not sold yet - very frustrating. What age/spec is it? I sold mine after two weeks on pistonheads - ended up having 3 interested parties and 2 firm offers. Listed for £3,800 and took £3,400 (which was actually the lower of the two offers by £100 but I liked the guy more, he really wanted to get into the whole ownership scene and I preferred my car went to a 'good home'). The price was a good bit lower than other cars that age (2001 bugeye running 306bhp) but I also think I was lucky in that with the mods (and it being a bugeye wagon) that it appealed to a certain subset. I think shifting a standard car in this market is a tough ask. Whilst I was sorry to see it go, I'm pleased it went so quickly as I wasn't expecting it. Ended up buying a Golf Mk5 GTi with 31k miles on the clock yesterday loaded with kit (£5k of factory fitted extras). Best of luck selling - my only advice is to probably drop the price further. Vauxhallgazz Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 I did the first time around. The ad will probably not be on it now. I'll go and put another one on. cheers for the reminder.
sparky_sj04 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Where did you advertise it? I've not seen an advert on here... or have I missed it? I sold mine a few weeks ago. Only place I had it advertised was on here and first viewer bought it for good money..
scotsman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Yep - I also listed mine on here and Scoobynet - always worth a shot as the above post shows.
Spaceman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 not being funny but hpi it with RAC or the like, i had same hassle with the misses clio turned out hpi checks were showing it as millage clocked which was pish turned out a dealer had entered a higher millage when we went to see bout trade in to get a lower price. a cop ended up buying it that knew me and knew it was genuine. could be there is hpi check throwing wrong info out bud but stick with it you will get there. if its ok body wise try we buy any car bunch of a***holes but if straight body they pay up.
ciaranrb5 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 To be honest they way Impreza's are selling at the minute that is overpriced at even at 5.5k sorry to say but I recon your look at 5k if your lucky. The money you have spent is spent and it realy doesn't affect the re-sale value. Don't worry your not alone I payed 5.5k for an RB5 18 months ago and accoring to glasses guide it is only worth £2k It realistically is worth 4 to the correct person though That is why it is getting turned into RB500
scoobyterzo3 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 you can only sell something if someone wants to buy it, for a quick sale the price needs to be cheap, unfortunately the same type of impreza can vary greatly in price......get loads of pics of the car and advertise on scooby forums may help......
