Jon B Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 always fancied doing something a motorsport like this but..... where do i start??????? any advice would be greatly appreciated
Phil MC Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Here's a link to the Scottish Hillclimb and Sprint championships website for further info: Guyson Scottish Sprint & Hillclimb Championships I know several of our members do the Sprint events and some also do the Hillclimbs as well. Here's a link to the East Ayrshire Car Club, who organise the events at Kames race track: EACC - Kames I'm sure someone else with experience in these events will be along shortly to dispense some advice...........They'll probably advise to you to get friendly with your bank manager as it can be an expensive passtime Good luck Edited February 9, 2010 by Phil MC
corsa Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Normally the bottom of the hill is the best place to start.
sti_steve Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Normally the bottom of the hill is the best place to start. I laughed anyway
mystery machine Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Normally the bottom of the hill is the best place to start. Beat me to it!
Ultimate Shine Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Normally the bottom of the hill is the best place to start. I was saying the same thing as well
hi_jac Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 All joking aside, it's a big commitment both financialy and mentaly to do a season in any hill/sprint championship it's a big step but one that will give you one hell of a ride. I wish i did it years ago. As Phil said read both sites you will get all the info there. Always keep in mind this is grass roots motorsport and just a bit of fun at the weekend. Jac

Ultimate Shine Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 One of my customers started racing in a Impreza on hillclimbs. Now this is his race car it started off as a classic shape wrx ra V2 now look at it, :rotfl: Weighs 300KGS and has 600hp N/A. Now correct me if i am wrong but is that not 1800 BHP/Tonne :rotfl: :o
J.C. Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Scottish Sprint and Hillclimb Championship Website (the link that Phil put up just takes you to the Scottish Sporting Car Club website page) Scottish Hillclimb and Sprint Forum (good place to ask questions) The DJ Firestorm of Wallace Menzies shown above is the top end of the sport, it is possible to compete in virtually any car. It is not cheap, but it does not need to be massively expensive.

arch Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 It all depends what you want to achieve and your budget. If you stay local and do the Lowlands down in the central belt or the Highland Championship for the guys up North it can be a fairly cheap sport. If you want to compete in the Scottish the cost ramps up exponentially as does the competition. As has been mentioned previously by JC this can be a cheap hobby but not in A3 or B3 where the impreza's and Evo's live. It can be very rewarding from a personal point of view in terms of building a car yourself and seeing it become competative but it can also be very very time consuming. If you are not able to do a lot of the work yourself you will need very deep pockets.
Jon B Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 At moment am just wanna get some info on it...... its just for a bit of fun at weekends and the like......
J.C. Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 this can be a cheap hobby but not in A3 or B3 where the impreza's and Evo's live. A3 does not need to be an expensive class, you can enter a standard Impreza (as a couple of members on here have done) it is winning that is expensive.
john_stevenson2 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Either that or fools seldom differ! How very true !! Not necessarily at the bottom, you just need to finish so many meters (don't have Blue Book to hand, can't remember how many) higher than you start ---john--- Edited February 9, 2010 by John Stevenson
