Midnight21 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone just cleared 4 weeks and 2ft of snow from my wagon..but she wont start Just want to know if its ok to jump start her or disconnect the battery and charge it?? Wasn't totally dead but not enough to turn her over Cheers in advance oops edited to say from another battery not by pushing Edited January 13, 2010 by Midnight21
BJM Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) should be ok for a jump And take it for a long run. If its an old battery it might not have liked going flat. EDIT - sitting for 4 weeks with the alarm draining it. See if it will hold a charge over the next while. Edited January 13, 2010 by BJM

jamie_wood Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Remember to turn off the "donor" car before you try and start the dead car to prevent a spike. Connect the positives from battery to battery and connect the earth from the donor car to an earth point on the car and not direct to the battery. Bon Appetit

mystery machine Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) I had to jump the STI a couple weeks ago. Jumped cars many a time before, but was a wee bit concerned about damaging electronics etc in a modern car, so followed these handy instructions from the AA: http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/break...-jumpleads.html Both cars still seem fine! scouk Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Not necessarily Jump starting related, but if anyone is concerned about havign a battery removed for an extended period of time and then the alarm system screwing up! I recently had the battery out of mine for about 4 weeks.. Plugged it back in the other day just to get thee fluids moving and it fired up no problem at all!

Would have probably removed the battery if I had known the car was going to be "snowed" under for so long... thats good to know

thefastone Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 The alternative is to get a battery jumper box, its the handiest car gadget that I have... its great... saves you having to jump off another car! (and my one has a light and a tyre pump built in too...)

scouk Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Try approx a year and a half. Battery back on and no probs. Hah! cool.. so any stories about alarm systems going haywire ot losing codes is mostly garbage on standard cars at least..
