hello all, first post on the forum, so hello

im coming down to view a scoobie on friday from bear motors Witney, Oxon

Click here for a link to the car

firstly has anyone been to look at it?

if so and has not brought it, why?

im going to look at it friday afternoon hopefully, so if there are any experts free local to Witney, Oxon a second opinion would be very helpful??

not brought a scoobie yet before so in need of some info really

cheers

Not seen the car before around Witney but judging by the ad, it's come down from notts.

Seems a bit on the expensive side to be honest. A quick scan of the other cars on pistonheads and you'll see a lot of STi's (as opposed to turbo 2k's) with similar mileage but higher spec for the same sort of price. Does look very tidy so definately worth a look (and a haggle perhaps!) :icon_salut:

Thanks for the welcome

and cheers for the info, i know looks can be decieving but im in oxford for the weekend so i though it will be worth a look as cosmeticly it looks tidy

this will be my first turbo car so going to look over it twice to make sure it is as it should be.

and of course i will have a haggle for sure, would be rude not to ha ha

Welcome fella, looks nice enough but it well pricey!!

It might be worth seeing what the guys at Cotswold subaru have got up for sale, these guys are well informed.

Agreed, Cotswolds know there stuff!

Even if you don't get a scoob from them, get them to go over any you do get!

i can see a pattern forming here on the price, what sort of price would be more resonable for this car? should it be mechanicly sound and nothing untoward of course

cheers for the welcome, and for the info i shall give them a call in the morning.

If it's mint throughout and with a VERY good service history, I would be tempted at around £4500 otherwise, there's plenty of mint STi's out there for less than the 5k they're after... Seems they have it up at the STi book price rather than the t2k book price.

Hope that helps?

that helps a lot, as it all helps in the bartering

my drama is im only 23 with 2 years no claims so cant go down the import route as that puts insurance at 2k+

glad to see you're already thinking about insurance - I'd suggest that you get a quote or two before you look at the car, you know the age / reg / mileage from the advert, so should be able to get a good feel for price. Some insurers are far happier than others when it comes to modded kit - worth finding out what got done to it and researching (use the scoobypedia link at the top of the page) a bit more about that specific model to understand how far from original it has been tweaked?

Good Luck - and also back up the comments about Cotswold Subaru (a couple of miles to the north of Witney) - mine got home tonight after it's 90k service and it's always been there for service and repairs.

had a few quotes including mods and they come up at a few hundred pounds more than i pay on my vectra so in my eyes not that bad at all.

had major issues insuring my current mini due to all the mods so the scoobie should be a walk in the park.

i think whatever i get will be going to cotswolds subaru for a look at then.

if im reading the scoobypedia site properly, standard this model comes out at 218 bhp@5600 rpm according to the ad this is running at 260bhp now, which is no major rise, i have heard that after market cans/pipes can make the boost creep up so that something to watch.

think a call to cotwolds for a bit of info and their opinion will be the best plan

cheers all for the info so far guys

Unfortunatly the car sold last night, if any of you guys know of any good ones on the market currently (the same kind of setup as the above) it would be good to know of

cheers

Seems a shame. Don't know of any locally but to give you an idea of what you could get with your cash (staying UK spec, non STi) this is at the top of the cars for sale section of the forum - http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=138748

There has to be more like that out there I would imagine! :icon_salut:

Don't get too worried about mileage - there was a thread on here a long while back about top mileage with loads of folk way over 100k and still happy. I'm past 91k on the current wagon in just under 5 years.

In my experience, it's not mileage that takes a scoob off the road, it's t055ers in golfs trying to drive right through your pride and joy ;)

;) It's not uncommon to see them reach 150k> and still be as strong as when they started out if serviced properly!

mileage is nothing mate aslong as it has history.

my old wagon had 156000 miles when i sold it

mate on AS is on 200000km's in his wrx

another guy is on 135k in his bugeye

and another is on 113k in his sti

last forever when looked after

my thoughts on the car in question is that it looks well tidy and looked after but is pricey,a guy in our club is selling his mint 2001 uk turbo with prodrive pack,ra roof vent ect, heres some pics...
