More than happy to share my classic experiences to help you decide (UK & JDM) but before I'd make a recommendation I would have to know what your plans for the car are. I.e.is this a daily driver or a weekend toy, will it be left standard or modified to the hilt, if so are you into show and shine or is a mad power fix more your thing.

As mention £5k will get you most makes and models so you've a tough choice to make.

iam looking for a weekend toy/2nd car either wagon or saloon looking for the import sti because it makes good power standard and can take modifications well iam not into show and shine.

it would be good for someone to show mwe over their car so i know what a normal one looks like and so i can compare to one iam looking to buy if its not that fast or making a strange noise etc.

For a weekend toy I would agree that a JDM STI import would be ideal. If you want something on the more extreme end of the scale an RA or Type R would fit the bill nicely.

Best thing you can do is make it along to a local meet. People love to show off and talk about their cars and you could see a few different flavours all at the one time.

I'm just down the M74 a little, but I'm a newage driver so not much point perusing mine. I'm often in Hamilton so when you get your new car post up pics and I'll keep an eye out for it for a wave.

my luck in buying cars is awful trying to find out as much as possible before buying one.

one thing i learned is buy a car with descent brand of tyres and a folder full of receipts at least someones spent money on it before you lol.

is there many old age stis at the meets?

you dont see many for private for sale its mostly from stealers.but plenty of the normal uk ones though.

Coming on here is a good start.

You'll see other posts where folk have asked others opinions on possible purchases.

Who knows what'll be at the meet. Folk add their names to the list but doesn't always help you with what they drive, perhaps sending a note to badbaz or a meet regular and they may be able to assist with that.

I may be corrected here but it seems at the moment people are hanging on to their own good examples for longer, not that none come on the market, it is more of a case of perhaps being prepared to travel to get the right one.

old age model = "classic" ! B)
