peacher Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Hi, Been phoning round a few places to get quotes for a 50,000 mile service and just wanted to check that this service involves the cambelt being changed? According to my service book it states (50,000 miles or 60 months - includes cam belt) but one place I contacted didn't quote for it being replaced. It definitely needs done doesn't it (05 Blobeye WRX)? Cheers, Peter
scoobyseller555 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 yep defo,50k or 60 months whichever comes first. Gav
st3ph3n Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Make sure they look at the tensioners too as they can need replaced. 60K isn't friendly either
peacher Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Cheers - need my discs and pads replaced too so this is probably going to be a sore one!
C_WRX Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Yip. My WRX just received its 5 year service and it was the timing belt that made up the majority of the final bill. If you're in the central belt (no pun intended) drop me a note and I'll share the bill list/prices with you if you want.
martin_allen Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Vote for Grieves on this. Had mine done there and they checked but didn't replace the tensioners which is good work i think. Brakes will be expensive there though. Perhaps better off looking for a refurb kit from Godspeed or something.... 5t.
peacher Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Been looking at getting grooved discs and Ferodo 2500 pads fitted at Hypertech. Also got a quote from them for the service (£110 + vat) and to get cambelt replaced would be between £195 - £450 depending on if they need to replace the tensioner and the bearings.
myles Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Do the discs and pads yourself, save yourself a few squid.
martin_allen Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 50k service at Grieves was £300 with SIDC discount
peacher Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Hmm - that seems a good price, will have to give them a shout.
C_WRX Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Not having the full timing belt kit fitted will save a lot...but I was told that they don't know whether it is needed until they get in there to look at it. If they think you need it wise to get it done ! The kit is about £300 on its own I believe. If comparing prices perhaps just ask for service + worst case with the full TB kit being required.
Joe G Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I did the belt on mine myself. The kit cost £250 including all idler pulleys and tensioner. You will most likely need the idlers replaced. I was shocked to see how much play i had in the ones i took off my car (and that was around 42k miles on the clock)
