435bhp - That Could Be Fun!

As much as I adore all things scooby, I could not bring myself to handing over 10,000 notes for a car on a P Plate. All those modifications have only de-valued the car. My advice is buy a Type-R as close to standard as possible (difficult after all this time) and spend the cash yourself, doing it the way you want...

10K is a lot of money for a P reg, but for your lot of money your getting alot of car!

Forged engine

Owen Developments turbo

Simtek ECU (mapped) Anti Lag & LC

AP Brakes

lightened flywheel

uprated clutch

Reversed Inlet manifold

850CC injectors

boost Copntroller

WRC intercooler

Before you bought a "decent" type R and brought it up to a spec like that it will cost way past 10K

The way i see it, your getting a free Type-R with those mods... Good luck with the sale m8.

Nice package and good value.

My type r is only an S plate and I'd ant a fair bit more than £10k for it.

Modding a car is a sure fire way to loose cash and you never get back what you put in but that car looks to be worth in excess of £10k in parts alone.

Hi Fella,

I remember a few years ago I did that and spent upwards of £30,000 buying the car and doing it up the way I wanted it, was a bit fun at the time, but sold it a few years later for £8,000!!!! I know the £10k sounds a lot, and if I was going for it I would get it down a tad, but buying someone elses finished project is more times than not much cheaper than doing it yourself.

Cheers

10k is a reasonable price for the car, with those mods. Maybe even be able to knock a bit off the price.

to buy standardish for 5 - 6k and then mod to over 400bhp would cost another 10k,

so 15 - 16k for same car

I know what i would rather do :crying:

In my opinion iif the engine work and spec is up to standard then its a cheap car for soemone who doesnt want to source the parts and do the work themself. Wish i had only spent £10k on my "K" reg RA

I think the "Let someone else pay - and then buy it" comments are the more popular - and more informed in my opinion!!!! Just need to wait and see what happens!!!

Prodrive wrc block, it has det rings in the top section of the bores and all oil ways are opened up

Penski rods

Omega Pistons

Gp A crank

Baffled sump

reversed manifold, plenum increased by 1/3 in size

at least V3 heads which had the WRC car profile on them for that year

Gp A parallel fuel rails, insulated

850cc injectors

Owen development turbo, rotated

98 WRC intercooler made by the man who made the originals with an original core, he refused to use anything else.

integral header/ power steering reservoir from an S5 WRC

Prodrive S2 gearbox with plated rear / trick front diff, the handling is amazing. slight oversteer and the front end is nailed to the deck.

I can vouch for these parts as I had the engine and gearbox built and when they were in the Millenium Falcon I can honestly say Ive never driven a better handling car. Some people look for power figures. The power and torque of this set up was absolutely perfect.

I have no experience of the installation into this type R nor do not know how its been looked after, but if its anything like when it was in my old car, she will hitch her skirt up and feckin go when you want it!!! She was geared for a top whack of about 130mph, 4000rpm was 70mph, however dont be surprised if you travel back in time when accelerating. Its awesome.

Wilky was that the set up that was in it when Grant took it for a blast after it had been on the rollers at dastek?

If it was the look on his face when he came back said it all.

Didnt realise this was your old set up wilky, which makes this even more of a bargain bargain bargain!

10K is peanuts for this car, buy it then stick on some wide panels

Sorry guys, the parts could be made from platinum and Beyonce could come free with the car and I still wouldnt buy it. At the end of the day that car is not worth 10k. I understand that buying a car "modded" is very appealing. The parts are there, and the hassle of gaining and installing them is out the way but the slightest thing goes wrong with it and your into mega bucks. All of a sudden that 10k car is needing a 4k engine rebuild.

Is it then worth 14k...?

I'm an Impreza nut like the rest of you, but lets face it we know from past experience how quickly it can go wrong when modifying. Getting 400 odd out of an Impreza does not cost 10k. If thats what you expect to pay then you really do need your head checked...

Lovely car for 6k but nowhere near 10.

Correct on all accounts,

However when you take into account the tolerance factored into the block, crank, rods and pistons and the fact that the rods new are around 3k, and that they can withstand sitting static on LC with ALS running at anything up to 2.7bar through a 34mm restrictor generating ridiculous heat, waiting for countdown and launch, and the fact it probably hasnt been over 2 bar with the Profec B 2 boost controller, you could bet you were going to have a pretty trouble free bottom end, so long as your bearing were kept fresh, along with the oil and servicing.

You cannot however rule out any poor treatment by previous owner, the same with every car you buy.

As far as modding goes, and the bits on that car including the gearbox and brakes you couldnt buy them for the asking price of the car, regardless of what you need to do to bring it up to scratch.

As you say, every 2nd hand car is a gamble and even more and more now even buying a new car seems to be a gamble these days. Im sure that engine, well looked after is absolutely bullet proof but if not looked after its an expensive timebomb.

The car was built for ragging, and that always sits in the back of my mind when seeing adverts like this claiming large toque and BHP If that lad or girl has just been booting it around the joint and expects to get all his cash back because he/she has a large folder full of reciepts for fancy branded parts by a well known engine builder, that alone cannot demand the value unless backed up by an exemplery service history.

I wouldnt be putting anyone off buying something they love, and are willing to part cash with. Just be VERY careful. Its easy to be wrapped up in figures, and am not for one minute suggesting that this is the case with Rally Fever. I just dont want to see a thread on here saying "MY TYPE R HAS BLOWN UP" or "My Spec whatever has gone on fire..."(sorry Jimser), just because of dishonesty at the point of sale.

That is all, sorry if I got anyones back up!

Still gives me a hard on thinking back to that drive. The way the car transmitted it's power to the Tarmac was unbelievable especially in the rain and coping with a 300 lbs/ft jump in torque in under 500 revs was mind boggling considering the tyres were shot and the alignment was far from ideal. The diffs in this car are Grp A Tarmac spec and really inspire confidence.

I would easily pay 10k for this for the quality of components used but I already have a silly Type R that floats my boat with it's unique features and quirks

If I remember correctly did you not P yourself with excitement when you took the Falcon out on that run
