sti_steve Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Get your car set up better for track use...different tyres...different suspension or coilovers..arbs...tit could your old bushes...he list is endless...spend spend spend! I wouldnt change much for your set up. Go for the 22mm Whiteline on the front and see how that goes. Perhaps a second set of wheels for track days with good tyres? Otherwise you will just get into spending a whole lot of cash when you dont really need to considering how much fun you had yesterday and it was pretty damn slippy. Hopefully you can see your set up in the dry soon to see how that goes.
fai17 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Well at least its easier to drive if all it does is understeer.
tvrolet Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Yesterday wasn't the best day for taking photos... ..but turned out fine for driving in the end. Exorcised a few demons yesterday; I’d always wimped out of previous wet/damp sessions so I’m real pleased that the car kept pointing the right way on just the (treaded) road tyres! Guess that’s me out in all weathers now - I’ve finally got over my wet weather phobia at KH! Another good session John. Thanks for organising it.
TrackScotland Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 I was right behind you when you spun, it didn't looks terminal though! what happened? That spin wasnt the cause of the end of our day.... unless stones got stuck somewhere in the engine LOL. Not sure what happened to cause the spin.... dodgy lines and trail braking down duffis LOL Thought you were off the previous lap when I was behind you...
cusco kid Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Get your car set up better for track use...different tyres...different suspension or coilovers..arbs...tit could your old bushes...he list is endless...spend spend spend! i told soundie how to set a car up peter ,he has a 22mm arb on order already , cheers geo
soundie Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Yep, thats on order and hopefully will be done next week. But as well I think the tyres may be playing a part- They maybe don't have enough sidewall to support the car on hard cornering. They are 215/35/18, and they are very stretched already across peters old newage wheels. Peter, do you remember what width the wheels are? I wouldnt change much for your set up. Go for the 22mm Whiteline on the front and see how that goes. Yeah I don't remember it being half as bad in the dry but I wasn't going as hard or even had the chance to , I still wouldn't have described it as sharp. money wise, new tyres and coilovers are a tad much, (I prefer the bilsteins on edinburgh roads anyway) but can maybe think about new steering and suspension bushes. Def getting a front arb and drop links anyway. (already done the back) Thought you were off the previous lap when I was behind you... oh probably. I've uploaded mine here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnsidc/sets...7051765/detail/ John great pics! Chris.
frank c Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Getting to grips with the new gearbox Chris ? Doesn't sound like you've any problems anyway..
frank c Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Haha... good to hear. Once you get the handling and tyres sorted, job done
trackhound Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Does anyone know the chap with the Black Evo who was on the track? The car was trucking quick. We had some boowsoot jousting on the track and he was recording the session. I almost lost it a couple of times keeping ahead of him. He paid me a visit in the pits to exchange some respect but I couldn't remember his name in the haze of vpower and methanol. :lol would be great to see his video footage.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Drilled number plate: what would be the reason in doing this? would i be correct in "assuming" that a lazer gun would be lucky to get a correct reading off of the plate due to the holes in it? cant say ive ever heard any laws against drilling holes in number plates so im "assuming" again that its legal?

Nothing so sinister - it's just for a little extra cooling. Every little helps! The Tuscan racers use the body mouldings from the never-built road car previewed at the 1988 motor show, with very few changes. The bonnet mould has never really been changed so still has the 'cut out' where the plate 'should' be mounted, so that's where I put mine. But the race cars obviously all run without plates and use that space as an additional air intake. I was getting overheating problems and rather than going straight to a stick-on plate and leaving the intake fully open, I came up with the 'ventilated plate'. In conjunction with a second radiator fan that pretty much knocked the water temperature problems on the head. Oil temp has been harder to fix - I think I've maybe only just cracked it now with two 16-row coolers, ducts, and 2 cooling fans on the oil coolers.
