tommo9375 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 A shiny one! ? - think you probably told most of the sidc boys at rrralleye
westtra Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 cal's correct. Quick question though. Does the VVT on the STi come in at 5k rpm? as at 5k there is now a whistle/chirp.
fpan Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) Hi Westtra! The car is looking mean How do you find the exhaust? Does it sound like a jet engine when you floor it at 4-5k rpm with full throttle? This is normal I can't describe the sound but I loved it! Deep and discreet "V8-ish" sound at low revs and waking up when you nail it! Can you post a sound/video clip up? I miss my car now Edited June 17, 2009 by fpan
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I know this BB type as the yanks rave about them and Jools Coghill had one which sounded awesome @ KH where did you get it from ?
westtra Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 the man that posted above you cal. I believe he got it from the state's. FPAN it sounds good got a vid of it on my phone last night but not sure of quality. Was just wondering what the whistle/chirp was though at 5k. Wondered if it was the sudden extra rush of exhaust gasses when the VVT comes on song as it only does on hard throttle. You can go through 5krpm and it doesn't do it. It's quite load outside the car aswell.

Yes that's the beauty of it, not too loud in the car but louder outside. At high rpm and full throttle you can hear the exhaust gases coming out, that's characteristic of the Genome, sounds like a jet engine My WRX did it too. Edited June 18, 2009 by fpan
westtra Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 it's not the woosh, had that on my last impreza with a prodrive exhaust that I'm worried about. It a high pitched whistle/chirp that's got me slightly concerned.

stuarted Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 sounds like what a split intake pipe sounds like but would be strange starting at the same time as change exhaust systems
westtra Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 i'll have a look at the intake pipe to check. its just strange that it's always at 5k, gives a quick chirp then dissapears. doesn't do it unless full throttle. even going through revs quick but not full throttle it doesn't do it..
t1000arab Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) Maybe where the new exhaust meets the old exhaust it hasn't been sealed properly? Once you hit 5000 rpm maybe the pressure in the exhaust is enough to force some gasses out where the leak is. Lie under the car and get someone to rev it, see of there's any air escaping. Might be an idea to use someone who's not accident prone for the revving Edited June 18, 2009 by t1000arab
westtra Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 have thought of that. just strange that its only on full throttle at exactly 5k for a short second then goes. if exhaust is blowing i'd have thought it would carry on all the time after it starts. have looked at intake and looks ok. no signs of splits.
