tommo9375 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Puddleduck cafe in Cullen; just after the viaduct on the left. Don't park your car outside that shop or directly across the road ever!!!!! Was in there with the other half & my daughter and when i left the car to go in it wasn't locking so i just used the key.Said to the wife for a joke - i think the batteries in the key fob are done wait and see it won't start when we go back out.. And guess what it didn't ,so went up to the local shop and bought 2 new batteries and still it wouldn't immobilise,so had to phone the father in-law to pick us up.Went back over after my tea in my second car (a rover 25 ) and the wife parked at the opposite side of the road.I tried my other key but still nothing, tried typing in the immobiliser pin manually -still nothing!!!! Looked over at the wife and she was saying that the rover wouldn't start either,by now i'm really cracking up... Then she remembered her sister in-law had the same problem with her jeep outside an electrical shop in buckie and she was told that it's the shop burgular alarm system thats blocking the signal from her key fob.So i free-wheeled the rover 2 car lengths down the hill and it started no probs, did the same with the scooby and hey presto away i go !!!!! I spent £8 on new batteries for nowt..... A lesson learned i suppose.
sti_steve Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I think i've heard of this before. At least you figured it out in the end and didnt have to call the AA or the like
scouk Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 LoL are you serious? Sadly it's true.. anywhere near a radio mast and my alarm system wont respond to the keyfob.. (pin code works though..) Some local business security systems are now running wirelessly which can mean localised blackspots in towns! really annoying.. But sure enough if you dont hav ethe PIN rolling teh car a coupel car lengths seems to get you 1/2 a wavelength away enough for the fob to work again.. Got caught out once in inverness, ever since then I got the pin code for the alarm so no problem now!
tommo9375 Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I tried the pin code 3 times and it wouldn't accept it due to the alarm or immobiliser still being activated - if i doesn't work after 3 attempts it takes 30 mins to reset ,i looked it up in the subaru manual..
scouk Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I tried the pin code 3 times and it wouldn't accept it due to the alarm or immobiliser still being activated - if i doesn't work after 3 attempts it takes 30 mins to reset ,i looked it up in the subaru manual.. Yeah it's a weird one... I seem to remember in order to disarm the immobilisier you need to do the following. Open driver door. Type correct pin code into keypad. (you should hear door open beeps) Close door. Open door alarm will activate (just door beeps again) Type in pin code and system will deactivate Insert key and switch on ignition within 30 seconds or system will re-arm.. It's somethgin silyl like that anyway.. I need to arm the system then disarm it in order to release the immobiliser..
thefastone Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) You driving a classic? or very early Newage? the code does work as long as you get it right, I know because I've been in the same place, tried to put the code in too quick and messed it up, so it froze me out for the 30 mins... you need to do it slow and steady... The alternative is to get an upgraded "sheilded" unit from the dealers, its only £70, and I think that's fitted... (they need to fit it to maintain the Cat1 alarm IIRC) The sheild by the way, its not actually sheilded, its just on a different frequency... if its the older unit you have, then you just have to be careful of parking near police stations... speshully the bigger ones... cullenmin Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Wish I was at home to see that one I'd be driving by all smug in my nice shiny rust bucket My old uk turbo was a nightmare because it wouldnt work near masts and the keypad was fooked, caught me out a few times including the very day I bought it
bobbyc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I always say you learn something new every day need to remember that one
thefastone Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Odd because late 2001 onwards I think were supposed to be fitted with the screened unit...
micra_wrc Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 lol glad you got sorted in the end, bet you'll be prepared if it happens again is it wrong to feel smug cos my RA doesnt have central locking and my alarm fob isnt used to unlock the doors?!
sczscoob Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Now that's friggin funny! But a lesson learned, i never new that.
tommo9375 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Now that's friggin funny! But a lesson learned, i never new that. I thought that might amuse you WAYNE.....
jasonb Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 If your ever in montrose dont park your scoob outside roo's leap at the golf course as it is exactly the same down there!!!!! Mental!!!!
marky.t.s Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I think i've heard of this before. At least you figured it out in the end and didnt have to call the AA or the like when i first got my impreza i done the above,i only had the car 2 weeks, parked it at Blockbuster in Cumbernauld,no plips from the fob, didnt know anything about the keypad, had to get the wife to walk to her mothers ,borrow her car and bring me the handbook.Luckily the small silver sticker with the pin code was still with the handbook.......but i had already mucked around with the keypad which had now timed out for 30 mins,so after the mrs. giving me grief for buying a" stupid" car and myself ready to kick the s**** out of my scooby a' la Basil Fawlty i phoned the breakdown guy.He turned up after 45mins,by which time 'er indoors buggered of home in her mothers car leaving me to sit and wait. The breakdown guy scratched his head and his crotch and nodded,"i've got an idea" he said.Minutes later my car was being dragged onto the low-loader,so off we went a couple of hundred yards as the guy explained that it was most likely that the many aerial and mobile phone masts on top of Cumbernauld town centre.A "plip" of the fob later and yahoo! it was sorted. That was four years ago now and the mrs. loves our "stupid" car.
tommo9375 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Didn't get any grief from the missus - just my 4 year old daughter....
sczscoob Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I thought that might amuse you WAYNE..... Sorry dude, i've got a picture in my head of Heather saying the Rover won't start and your face would be a picture!
tommo9375 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Sorry dude, i've got a picture in my head of Heather saying the Rover won't start and your face would be a picture! You couldn't see my face for the steam coming out my ears when i realised both cars wouldn't start- it was heathers idea to go into 'that cafe' in the first place!!!
scoobyseller555 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 your car should have a shielded ecu m8 if its 2002. i'm sure the guy with the electrical supplies place up the back of there has radio masts attached to the building, your also not far away from both the police station and the fire station there, again these masts play havoc. £70odd quid gets you the shielding from Subaru and cure the problem happening again Gav
westtra Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 fortunatelly it doesn't happen when parked across the other side of the road or it never did in my old scoob when visiting the chippy.
scouk Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Tesco in Elgin is a bugger for it... Line of sight with the Police Radio mast.. Holding the fob over the bonnet while pressing the button often gets me in though..
