So here we go, 1996 Impreza Sport with 120000 miles on the clock, and about £1800 worth of insurance: I'll just get straight to the modding... Standard Impreza! First mod was to scrap that interior pick one in good nick from an import WRX for £70...all seats and door cards! New exhaust system, had to go slightly bigger, you've been warned lol.... this was exceptionally loud, but nothing like it is now! Full 2 1/2"stainless steel system with 5" backbox & tailpipe Next up was some colour coding, seemed the next sensible thing to get out the road, so everything that was black turned green! that the sideskirts, bumpers, mirrors, handles lol Was then hit with a broken oil sump! after all that got sorted...think I had a new clutch fitted at the point too Next up was the JUN front splitter, got it sprayed and fitted, happy as larry! Next up was a set of 16s from an import again, made quite a difference although I was stuck on which colour to go....so start guessing Time to make a cup of tea..... Edited February 1, 2009 by Rab555
Rab555 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) I thought you'd get it wrong..... lol Well it had been a few weeks, got the car in for a timing belt change, crank seal and a few other wee problems, got em all sorted. Anyway, finally got round to getting it lowered, made a HUGE difference to the car especially in the twisty bits, looked not too shabby at the time aswell. Painted my centrecaps too (first photo was before lowering) After the lowering I decided to move the reg plate.......which 8 months later I wish I hadn't lol got some better photos Next up was de-badging the boot and getting stickered up....this was the beginning, Its now covered in the buggers! Rab555 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Ok so next up was the big one, facelift conversion. basically I sourced 2 bonnets, a grill and set of headlights, all from turbo facelift imprezas. Also bought a V6 STI spoiler and a Pink 'i' badge I was very impressed with the result, totally flawless! Guess where? these were taken at the SMC, got myself some custom mudflaps, clear indicators and a couple of fire extinguishers....honest Nytrex Nitrous kit, never plumbed in due to engine circumstances lol! looked ammense though! and kept the saxos at bay for a while lol
Rab555 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Another few months passed with various journeys and hiccups which I wont go into, but Its definetly turned out how I planned.. I was then hit with engine / clutch failure....probably due to 11 runs at crail, 16.6 seconds if you were wondering, not bad for a 12 year old heavy-weight with 115bhp lol (proven at hypertech btw! video from crail! I sourced a 1997 EJ20 engine from LKM near dover or somewhere lol, shipped it up, new water pump, clutch, seals later....we're back on the road! This is pretty much it at the moment, i've since added black front indicators, and put my green LED sidelights back on
Rab555 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Trip to santa pod last year.........cancelled due to weather:( Green LEDs Probaly answers a few questions after being at the meet on Sunday! Edited January 30, 2009 by Rab555

colzo Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Sure I saw your car on Thursday parked across the road from the Post Office in Falkirk when I was popping over to Jim Allans on Grahams Road.
martin_allen Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Nice one. Are you the one that made us feel smelly? Pulled up with the wagon and you moved to the other end of the car park heh. Sure you were just talking to a mate like but was a weird one. Deffo a nice green car at least! Nice to see so much work going into it though. 5t.
Rab555 Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Well firstly thanks for all your comments folks, I wasn't sure how all you turbo bunnies would take it yes fivetide but I only knew Ross in the RB320 (who invited me along) so went n parked up there lol. colzo, I work at the printers opposite the post office, hence the car being there everyday The engine I bought was completely standard, cost me £100!!! and £35 to ship it up Im not sure whats happening next, I have a vortex generator to go on, although its giving the garage nightmares gettin it to fit lol. Id love to get it turbo'd up but its not worth the cash, especially with the price of WRXs in the current climate....
the squiggle Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 It costs about 3K to put all the running gear and electrics into a Sport from a WRX so with early cars about 2k. I know of one eejit that put V3 STI running gear into a 94 Sport and left the exterior std, that included the 2 pot fronts and drum rears. Kept it as a Sport on the V5 and paid only for a Sport insurance policy, worked out fine till he hit a No74 Bus up the rear end totaling the car and bus. Insurance company and bus company are now in the process of sueing his ass for 100K plus, he now drives a Fiesta very slowly
empty_heed Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 nice wee story & pics on your car. i think i could fit my head in your exhaust saw your car vat falkirk aswell. i drive a sport too, but a wagon
