windy1945 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 My father is an old school driver he raced a Mini cooperS in the 60s and he can not believe how much contact there is these day especially in the BTTC keeps on ranting if that was to happen in my day you would get a warning keep on doing it and get black flagged

Guest CRAIG D Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Yeah i see the point in a "so called get yer ass oot the way" so to speak which is always good fun to watch and yes this is why we all watch for the F1,BTCC. I think a track day is slightly differant tho
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Presume you guys have seen this clip before ( from Knockhill Time Attack) ? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Da4x1aGXUhg I am convinced that the car is an absolute beast to tame and this is coupled with the fact that the longitudinal wheel base has been shortened ( hence more prone oversteer...) Having said that he does do some odd things. For instance around 5 mins 10 secs he spins out at Duffus Dip. He appears to brake and down change in a straight line as you'd expect. He then seemingly fails to get back on the gas on the approach to the apex which throws the weight of the car all over the place. I have no desire to slate him ( lucky fella that he is with all hat machinery at his disposal..) but that does a pretty fundamental error. He also takes some really odd lines which leave him at a loss ( especially at the hairpin when he's chasing the white evo) He gets on the gas to early and runs wide rather than squeezing on the power in a straight'er line whilst unwinding the lock. The white Evo leaves him for dead despite the fact it's clearly harbouring less ponies. Have to agree though, we're not born with these skills and everyone has to learn somewhere, sometime....... Cal
micra_wrc Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 who is he? (simon at norris designs i mean) is he well known?
RA Dunk Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 who is he? (simon at norris designs i mean) is he well known? he has the Evo version of the gob stopper
micra_wrc Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 he has the Evo version of the gob stopper ah ok cool the penny has dropped lol
st3ph3n Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 If you dont like any of my posts then dont reply to them. This forum like any other depends on people posting up things ok and stupid post aswell and i am guilt for it but at the end of the day it gets the numbers up which is a good thing. Forums certainly don't need huge numbers of crap posts or post whoring. They need a steady number of good posts. I can point you at a shed load of forums with too many posts, from people who often have real issues spelling their own name never mind putting a sentence together. Gamefaqs springs to mind for a start.
diazamet Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Presume you guys have seen this clip before ( from Knockhill Time Attack) ?http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Da4x1aGXUhg I am convinced that the car is an absolute beast to tame and this is coupled with the fact that the longitudinal wheel base has been shortened ( hence more prone oversteer...) .... Slightly off the main topic of this thread, a semi-sensible question :-), what is the purpose of shortening the wheelbase of the evo when it makes is so twitchy?
StewartyBoy Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Shorter wheelbase car will absorb cornering energy a lot better than a longer wheelbase, although shortening a wheelbase can seriously compromise stability if not calculated precisely for the tyoe of racing the car is being used for e.g track or drag which this car is being used for both
craigdmcd Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I've kept an eye on this throughout the day, and whilst I do agree that it is not fair to call the guy names (although I do also appreciate that this is just your style of posting CraigD - that is your own choice and only dislike it in the same way as I dislike text talk), it is obvious from all the video footage that the man should really spend some of his abundance of cash on proper driving tuition or some of the fabulous Scandinavian Rally schools that teach all sorts of car skills. The first clip shows how he is too focused on trying to catch the boys in front of him, and thinks that just because they have jumped the slower car in front of them, he will automatically be able to do the same. The end result is obvious, and as much as he might have payed for the damage he has done, how do you compensate someone for all the late winter nights and ear bashings from the missus whilst trying to get a car ready for an event like this? The lack of brakes clip is quite disturbing in so as far the man owns a car preparation business. I can't actually recall the last time I saw a total brake failure on a competition car that wasn't down to human error or something damaging the brake system when travelling in a forest. On a circuit it can only be attributed to human error at setup to have that big a failure in such a short time, or that he hasn't been clever enough to notice his brakes "disappearing" over the previous laps - then the error is entirely his fault. Even still, a better exit path over the grass (never a good idea on slicks in the first place) or maybe the better option of killing the engine by selecting 2nd or 3rd might have worked better - yet again an experience thing. Everyone on a forum is entitled to an opinion, it's just how we express them and sometimes comment on other peoples that should be thought of a little longer before we hit the "post" or "reply" buttons.
fai17 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 he has the Evo version of the gob stopper Nice reply....he is EVo god or something like that.
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 As i have admitted in my previous post, i am sorry for the way i posted the topic up and that i should have posted it in a better way. before i hit the "post or reply bottom". I may have been the total plum not simon. I have hugh respect for the guy for the work he does for sure. I do post crap here and there again i admit to it but what may seem like an easy question to some1 maybe harder to others. I shall endever not post CRAP up again Can we now just be a happy scooby family now please
fai17 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Can we now just be a happy scooby family now please Hey...we've always been a happy scooby family...LOL
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 CRAIG - no need to feel bad and I feel it generated some good chat at the end of the day.... w.r.t the shortwheelbase chat.........on that Green Evo he had a 1 foot section cut out of the car. That makes for more snappy oversteer. One of the reason Porsches are widow makers is down to their relatively shortwheelbase ( + heavy engine in the rear). Another analogy is my old boys Mini project ( still on paper although the donar car is purchased!) - he's torn between shoving a Vtec engine in the front or a bike engine in the back and having it RWD. One of his reservations is that these old Mini's have serious tail out moments when you shove the engine in the back. Reason being that the Mini has a very shortwheel base which means the back end is more snappy and less easy to predict. I have had a little Google about and found this incidentally :- http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=355622 Stewartyboy - not sure whether you mean shorter track in this instance ? Cal
