RA Dunk Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 get a load of this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10...raffic-jam.html
scuba dou Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) When we moved to Denmark 20 months ago it was hard to get used to this approach, not so much in light traffic, but you don't leave your car running anywhere over here. Was watching the boys play football, sat in the car with engine running….and quickly learnt you don’t use the engine to keep yourself warm. O no; one buys a big jacket, scarf and gloves. I thought I saw somewhere that BMW were developing a car that switched off and on depending on brake and throttle response. I.e. whilst stopped with foot brake on is turns off engine and when you come off the brake it starts engine, etc. Jools Edited September 16, 2008 by Scuba Dou
scoob fae ork Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I think this lot are treating britain like a carnival so they can con people at every corner so i think we should stop playing there silly games and stand up to them
Joe G Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Its getting ridiculous!! Next you will be paying for breathing!! They need to be stood up to as its really getting out of hand now.
RA Dunk Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 .and quickly learnt you don’t use the engine to keep yourself warm. O no; one buys a big jacket, scarf and gloves. screw that, thats why we have heaters surely?

Took a while to get used to, & annoying in stop/start traffic, although it could be switched off at the press of a button. I guess with the amount of traffic & the cost of fuel, it's inevitable that this sort of thing will be used to sell cars, now that safety isn't as much of an issue, as we're all gonna be stuck in traffic jams My concern would be over the definition of 'too long' by traffic wardens, as we already love 'em for their caring attitude towards drivers overstaying their welcome at the meters !!
P1Daveyboy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Yet another TAX on the motorist why bother owning a car. Give it up and the muppets loose all the tax we pay to them. Vat on new cars, Import tax, Road fund tax er duty, Insurance tax, mot cost, Tax on parts for your car, Tax to take your driving test, Tax on dirving lessons, In london congestion charge er Tax, Parking cost er tax, worn out now over taxed
P1Daveyboy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Just had a thought if fuel keeps going up we will not be able to afford to sit in jams Doh
mystery machine Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Gotta love the Daily Mail... Instead of fining motorists for idling in traffic jams, any chance we could take a look at alleviating the root cause, i.e. congestion? Could we provide better public transport and roads, perhaps? Too radical? Too much effort and expense more like it... Having said that, I do get a bit hacked-off when I see some keich-for-brains sat outside Costcutter having a ten minute conversation on his mobile, engine running, diesel blurting out all over the local populous... Banana up the exhaust pipe should sort that one. And don't get me started on what I'd do to his car
iainc Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 F*** that. I'll switch the engine off if I'm gonna be there for a while but I'm not switching the engine off just 'cos I'm gonna be sitting there for 30seconds, etc.

It's different if you are gonna be stuck in traffic for hours, but most queues are kinda stop start (they are for me anyway) so you'd be turning the engine off/on constantly and using up more fuel and probably never allowing the car to get properly warm, etc as well. Sod that.
nkwrx Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I'd love to say this is unbelievable but frankly it's not. We live in a nanny state now and it can only get worse Roll on the revolution !!
st3ph3n Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Umm..... it's the daily mail. The day I start taking that seriously is the day they take me to Carstairs. It's racist, xenophobic and sectarian hate-filled bile written by arseholes. That would no doubt be printed next to the article that said that the <insert your favourite race/creed/sexual persuasion/political party> are currently <kidnapping/molesting/over-charging> <your mother/the old/the young>.
