Looking at obtaining a new car for a female who loves Porsche, Budget is around the 40k mark and not just raw power but a nice Porsche for a Female to scoot about in.

Do any of you guys have experience in this Marque and recccomendations on what i should get? ;)

Davie.

Was thinking about a boxter until i seen a repeat of Clarkson saying its only because you cant afford a 911.

I am having a look at various dealer sites along with the recommended prosche forums!!

Will keep looking and recieving advice.

Is she thinking along the 911 route or more towards a Cayman or Boxster? Obviously more choice with the former but would get a much better Cayman or Boxster for the money.... :P

(I take it by "new" you mean 'new to her' and not brand-new??)

not to clued up on porsche's so not sure if there are any 4x4 coupe's i had an old guy overtake me the other week when i was in my truck, in his new boxster which must have been rear wheel drive and hit some standing water on the motorway he lost hit and shot across the front off me and up the banking and rolled it a few times. he walked away from it with a broken arm i couldn't believe it when i stopped.

A 4 wheel drive would give you some piece of mind and some security for your misses m8 given our wonderful summer we're having

You'd be better throwing a post up on Scoobynet in Other Marques to be honest, a lot of experience and knowledge over there mate. I'm pretty sure the only 4x4 you get are Carrera 4, Carrera 4S and Turbo models.. and obviously the Cayenne SUV.

With that sort of budget, I'd be going for something like this or possibly a low mileage 996 Turbo. However, thats just personal preference and due to being a more 911 sized person, as was mentioned above the Cayman/Boxster might be a bit more suited to a female??

Cheers,

Grant

There is absolutley no shame in that.

I live in Castlemlk becasue I can't afford to like in the Mearns or some other posher place. Very few poeple can afford top of the range everything. It's alright for Clarkston to say that, given that he earns a gazillion pounds an hour for his job. Perhaps with his 911 comment, he forgot that ordinary people drive cars too - fat, badly, oversized tw@t!

Hi Davie, my other half bought a new 2.7 Boxster just over 2 years ago, cost was about £39k.

The car is fantastic, the handling is amazing and although it may not have the poke of my STi it would not be too far behind on a run. Obviously the quality of the interior is excellent and we have had no problems at all.

We will be trading it in next year (3 years old) as the 4 year service is close to £1k. We never bothered to extend the warranty either as it was £900 and we have only covered 9k miles.

If you decide to go for one don't go over the top with extras, as you will not get your money back for them.

Off the top of my head this is what we went for:

19" Alloys (Bought Direct from dealer so we also have the standard 17")

Sports Steering Wheel

Bose Stereo

Wind Deflector

Leather Sports seats

Regards

Marc

John, please leave the slander out of the reply I may be baldy but the rest was uncalled for. ;)

LOL! I knew you'd try that one on, so that is why I said "oversized" as well; you're defo not that! hahah!

Davie, I had a go in a Cayman a few weeks back and it was really rather nice. Fantastic to look at in red with the optional rear wing and lovely anthracite rims. Performance wise - clearly very capable round the corners but engine was a bit lacklustre. Not very comfortable for the taller/larger gentleman either I have to say, but that's fine if the lady's not 6 foot 4 and built like an outhouse.

Been in my mate's cayenne too and it's also very nice.

What do you expect, its a subaru forum?!

Sorry, but the 2.7's are slow, having driven one, up to at least a tonne, a mates cammed saxo was quicker, and my brothers 2.2 vtec was faster too.

They handle alright, no doubt, but I'd never have one.

remember this is for a woman though, i doubt she`s into out right grunt/BHP/torque figures etc etc and would probably prefer something that looked good and felt pretty nippy, unless of course she`s a proper petrol head but if that was the case she would already know what shes looking for ;)

fair enough. My girlfriend gets cars that I like to drive ;)

Davie, my opinion would be to go with the Caymen.

The market is flooded with Boxster's and considering the way the market is becuase of running costs, you'll likely pick up a cracker of a Caymen for good money.

I'd have to disagree, I don't see the point of paying extra for less. Any other model you pay more for the Convertible but Porsche charge you more for the tin top? Also don't like some of the things that they do on the Caymen like putting the Bose Subwoofer in the passenger footwell.
